This is amazing. I’m not sure I got too much out of the video itself, in fact, I didn’t even get through 10 minutes of it, but I went to the range today and imagined - and used the motion of - throwing my club down and to the right, like the coach told you. My range has a tracer and I hit a 210yd 7 iron and almost 300yd drive. That’s adding 30 yards to each of these. Amazing. This ‘trick’ gets my hands out in front and lags the club, as I am imagining whipping it as hard as I can low and out to right. Just amazing. Thank you. EDIT: I should add, as this is very much a ‘natural’ motion, everything else takes care of itself - no 4-5 swing thoughts to try to go through in my head - my weight goes forward, right elbow and hands leading. Incredible.

Your instructor didn't address this directly, but instead focused on how you release the club and how the left elbow works, and suddenly the early extension is gone. That in itself is a good lesson in identifying what's a symptom and what's a root cause.

Shawn drags the club through and with a neutral grip would leave the face wide open, that’s why he closes the face then grips it, which works great for him, but it’s different than what these guys are doing. Shawn is a lot of feel vs real, he shows things in slow motion but when you speed it up it’s different. He says when you chop a tree down or hammer into a door frame your hands are way ahead, try hammering a nail with your hand passing the nail before the head. Be careful with a lot of these KZbin guys they give you just so much and then try and steer you to their premium pay site.

Shawn teaches throwing clubs, shouldn't be thinking about dragging handles, it's very natural and easy. Nothing much else to think about, if they're both throwing clubs then basically it's the same with different explanations. Shawn just understands the anatomy better and how we work and have evolved as humans.
@maeu596 ай бұрын
@@rvhextall you’re really not paying attention, Shawn releases out to the target after he collects the ball, this guy releases way early by the right hip thinking about letting the club head pass the hands, with the feel of scooping. Great video. I'm curious what Zak thinks about your takeaway. I know it's early in your speed training, but your practice swing has this very fluid take away and a wonderful whippy follow through. Then when you hit a live ball, your back swing seems very rushed. I've noticed this in my swing too and I try to slow the back swing to what feels like Im"s backswing or Hideki's even though in reality it's just a controlled smooth backswing. Your swing relies a lot on arm and body rotation, but you’re missing out on ground force. Notice how pro golfers keep their rear foot grounded to harness this power. By applying pressure into the ground through your back foot, you’ll generate more force and increase your swing speed. I notice that you’re even lifting your heel on your half practice swings. Try to almost jump at impact for a noticeable difference in power.
@ErndogGolf11 ай бұрын
Dude thanks so much for the feedback! When you say they keep their rear foot grounded, you mean in the downswing, until impact right?
@ryan.wright11 ай бұрын
@@ErndogGolf yes, through impact, it’s crucial to apply noticeable pressure downward through the mid-foot and ball of the foot. This downward force acts as a lever, generating upward energy that transfers through your body, enabling a powerful club release at impact. It’s not just about rotating. If your heel lifts prematurely, you’re likely just rotating without proper force application. The heel should naturally rise post-impact, as a result of this forceful downward pressure and rotational follow-through, not before. So, yes, the foot should remain planted through impact, ensuring maximum energy transfer. To me it almost feel like a jump, and it’s pretty hard to jump off one foot. Does that make sense? If the trail leg looks dead or like it’s just along for the ride you know you’re doing it wrong. It should be noticeably engaged through the swing.

I don't understand the purpose of trying to swing an 8i 90 mph, to get a few yards, when you can swing slower with a 7i and get the same distance?
@zachberhow.instruction11 ай бұрын
1 mph is worth roughly 3 yards. 3 mph is worth around 9 yards. Ernie was not getting the results he wanted with slower speeds. Therefore in order to make more birdies are getting him closer to the hole and using less club to increase his proximity to the hole. Making multiple to several birdies is the key to shooting lower scores.

@@zachberhow.instruction maybe because I'm 65 and would never hit an 8i 90 mph, lol. It looked painful to me. But thank you for responding.

I'm no PGA certified golf pro, and I don't mean to step on anyone's toes, but I think I see a power leak; at the top of your backswing, you seem to be casting the clubhead upward rather than letting the shaft fall and shallow out a bit at the transition into the downswing. Watch in slo mo, and you'll notice a look of steepness of the shaft coming from the top from the casting, as slight as it is. Compare that to the Tiger video and you'll see what I mean. This is why Tiger has that big gap between his arms and why yours is small and closes earlier in your downswing. Get that part of the swing happening, and you'll get to 85mph with less effort... or maybe I'm just full of shit.

We'll just have to agree to disagree, maybe you should watch all his premium videos to understand things better yourself. Then you wouldn't be confused too.

I have tried this. In my opinion, throwing your club just teaches you how to throw your club. It does not teach you how to properly release the club and compress the golf ball

You may already have a pretty good release! My club speed jumped to 85mph right after the drill!

Just as a PS. I didn't watch the video. It's clear from the title that throwing the club has helped him. Shawn has been throwing the clubs for a long time. I think you're overthinking it...

We get scammed so hard with golf lessons lol. Youve had 11 or 13 lessons and are still struggling...... coaches are in it for money not to help us
