Hey Emgog golf, thanks so much for sharing Zak's lessons with us. I'm a 56 Y/O, played off 5ish since I was a teen. I have benefitted so much from every pearl of wisdom that Zak teaches you, I think he is amazing. Just simple instruction, demonstrations and explanations that make sense. I wish I had access to him for lessons, best I've seen. I watch all of your lessons on repeat, absolute Gold.

Ernie, I keep my back to target and laterally push off inside of trail foot(arch and heel) and hands and arms drop with a loose grip. I still have a bit of a fade. I set up square and tilt to hit up. I have a slightly strong lead hand and strong right hand grip. To fix and hit straight or baby draw does it make sense as an option to 1) after the drop to drive the rotation of the rib cage or 2) think drive the rotation of the lead hip. Or 3) drive the lead shoulder up and around. I want to have the best option for speed and accuracy.

Erndog, I don't understand why you haven't put more emphasis on putting. I found a great book named "Make More Putts", which is filled with excellent, proven drills from a world champion putter. After practicing my lag putting for maybe 1.5 hours before a recent round, I hit 31 putts, an all time low for me. You absolutely cannot score well if you can't get down in 2 from inside 40ft. There is a whole other world of reading the break successfully that I don't recall you ever talking about. Yes, in the end you need to train your intuition and "feel", but there is a lot of science to putting also. Similarly with chipping and pitching, this is SUCH an important part of scoring. There's nothing wrong with focusing on the full swing, but short game is what matters most, and setting up where you want to chip or pitch from on your approach shot is hugely important. It also makes golf less stressful and more fun to know that you have a short game that keeps you in every hole. If only I had the handicap to justify having such opinions, so take what I say with a grain of salt... but I'm a believer.

Had a lesson with Zach yesterday and it was fantastic. I had tried to follow your lessons with him and implement the changes, but had hit a wall. He got me in some better positions and clarified things for me. I’ll see him in a month after a ton of practice. I fully expect my handicap to go up for the rest of ‘24, planning to come out hot for spring. Thanks for the videos and thanks for turning me on to Zach- great dude!

Watch 1:05. His weight is on his toes. Stay off your toes. Keep weight on heels for a while then slowly go back 2 balls of your feet. Never go back 2 weight on your toes. Lift your toes up and hit a ball. Guarantee u will never shank. And try not to bend over too much. Taller to the ball. A lot easier than his drill. Try it!!! You're welcome.

Ernie, if you are hitting 80%+ on your concentration / process score, then that is damn good! I think it takes time for the pre shot routine to really produce as I found I need to make it be less of a focus in and of itself… if that makes sense? For me, the key is slowing down a bit and envisioning a specific shot which I commit to, but some of my routine is fluid because I’m a really highly feel based player (person?). Sometimes I take little practice swings, sometimes one full practice swings and sometimes I take none. Sometimes I do one of two or three different mechanical drills. Sometimes I waggle…. I’m sure the common basis of whether I hit a good shot or not is simply the process of slowing down and deciding what I plan to do with the ball. But that’s just me. I have one friend who is super consistent with his pre-shot routine to the point where you could put a stopwatch on each part and he’d probably duplicate it every time. (I actually struggle to watch it when he goes through everything and basically look away until he’s addressing the ball.) I have tried some of that and it distracted me from feeling out what I wanted to do pre-shot and how I feel as I address the ball.

Use a wider arch stop pinning that right arm against the rib cage ! Take the backswing path a little wider watch the arm& hand position Naturally fall into position to hit rotation will automatically take over . I know bc I spent year & year trying to find that slot..

Hey Ernie, I’m just starting to catch up after a super hectic stretch for me, but wanted to comment to check in and show my support. I’m glad you are finding your way forward in a way you seem to be enjoying more - even though I know you’re taking it seriously and not stoked on your handicap. I had a knee injury this winter and had to take about 3.5 months off playing with surgery and all. Since I got back I’ve been pretty thoughtful about a lot of this. I definitely like to practice and work on my swing, but have to mix in a fair amount of time on the course… although I freely choose to use some rounds as practice and hit multiple shots / work some things out on the course rather than grind and post every round. Mentally my game is in a pretty good place and so I’ve been scoring quite well. I played probably the most stress free round with my father the day before my 50th birthday recently and didn’t realize until later that I wasn’t worrying about his impression of my play or score. Funny about the tension cue… this is highlighted in Every Shot Must Have a Purpose and I only recently realized my tension source is in my hands/grip. When I release the tension (not necessarily loosening my grip), then I am hitting better shots. But the commitment issue is probably the biggest one for me: most of my serious errors are from some lack of commitment to my shot - either changing my mind mid process of what I plan to do without fully committing to it or having fear / doubt disrupt my commitment to the shot. Man, I could go on and on… Your swing looks great and I think the rebuild work was important, but getting all the time playing and working on your mental game will really build off that. Low scores are in the near future for you!

Dude I feel like the pre shot routine has ruined pace of play. If you are not in tournament or close to scratch the pre shot routine should be quick. Practice swing line up hit. If taking time anywhere it should be the greens ... Everyone and their mom thinks pre shot routine is this big thing for 99% of players it's not. In my opinion...

I think the pre-shot routine is not the cause of slow pace of play except in extreme cases (idiots taking minutes to line up their putts when they don’t even hit the ball on their line). I tell my 9yo to hurry to the ball, be ready when it is your turn (in a ready golf sense) and then slow down... as I was taught from a young age by my father. What I see is people all over the place rather than being proactive and efficient at getting to their next shot, not prepared or paying attention when they could be ready to hit, gabbing on the green or in between tee shots with basically no consideration for pace of play. Whether it is 10 seconds or a minute, pre-shot routine doesn’t seem to be the culprit to me. In fact, I find that the more I rush, the more shots I ended up taking and more time I spend in the bushes looking for my ball.

I tried sooooo many technics hitting my driver, and nothing helped until now. I tend to strat the swing with my right shoulder. This caused a pull or a banana ball lol. I took this swing thought to the course today, and I increased my distance 25 yards, and also hitting them in the fairway. Yes, I had a few bad drives, but I stuck to it. I even lowered my score by 5 shots. Thank you for Shariig this magnificent swing thought.
