Loop knot for end of fly line

Can I just tie a perfection loop on the fly line?
@marshallcutchin56343 жыл бұрын
It's probably possible to tie a perfection loop in the end of the fly line but the knot would probably not be secure unless the fly line coating was stripped off first, since it would likely weaken the knot. The bulkiness of the knot might make it harder for the knot to slide through the guides as well.

Your line would cast horrible if you knotted your fly line itself in any way. Just nail knot mono onto your fly line then perfection loop the mono. They even sell tools that make tying nail knots way easier.

Tying a loop straight on your fly line can damage the fly line where your mono pinches it. Also it makes it a pain for getting your line through the holes on your rod.

I followed it to a t and the knot is going the wrong direction on the line. Every other instruction starts with thick end facing left not right.

Isn't this technically a snell knot, not a nail knot?!!
@MidCurrentflyfishing2 жыл бұрын
Snell knots and nail knots have essentially the same structure. They both could be called barrel knots as well. So it's probably just a matter of labeling related to how they are used.
