Yeah it's good to mention that nylon locking nuts wear out and some really don't fit that good to begin with when you mix and match hardware. They have cured many problems in the RC world. After hearing different opinions starting out I found out that your right. You can get away with being looser but they can quickly get too loose and cause the helicopter to shake hard on start up. I have found that some cheaper blades can have tight and looser spots when you check the whole arc of the blade by hand.

Yes, locknuts definitely wear out. Some are bad from the start. I’ve got a hundred of each size so that way I can just toss them and replaces every so many times. Or if it’s been a while I’ll put new ones on. Yes, some of the cheaper blades definitely have weird spots I’m them and can make the blade tight and lose.

DJI uses foldable props for their camera drones but tbh for actual quad racing it is all about stiffness... When I got into R/C with helis back in the day I learned the blades should be loose enough to straighten themselves out but getting back into helis now I just go with what WestHobbiesRC said and have them not "fall down" when you're shaking the heli a little. ;) cheers everyone

So stiffness of the blade is a lot different than a blade that is foldable or movable. Because no matter what it is with centripetal force the blades are going to be straight out. But if the blade is weak and flexes a lot, that’s a problem. Because the more RPM the more it will flex and move in flight.

Hey boss, again I appreciate the videos. If you do see this I got a suggestion, when you do a build a heli next time or even your previous builds, what if you cover some of the cost and equipment breakdown and where to buy everything? I always wonder why some place sell the kits, batteries, and FBL and then you have to shop around to buy the servos somewhere else. I think we need some sort of video breakdown of where are the best places to purchase everything (discount included if available) and maybe options of top end and decent equipment setups. I know that you can go about spending $500 or $2000 but seeing the differences in prices and best outcome is what everyone might be shopping for. Also give you some referral links as well for the effort. I don't see anything out there that covers this and with the passion you have for helis I think it could be a start of something that can definitely give you more audience!

I’m glad the video was helpful! That is a great idea. I thought about doing that before but I can definitely do that. I know it can be tricky and hard to buy a kit and then have to figure out what electronics you need and try to buy everything from different places. That is one of the biggest reasons I shop on helidirect because they have almost everything you could be depending on what a FBL system you fly.

@@westhobbiesrc8051 Thank you for taking the time to reply! I know right now that nobody is doing it like you do and really enjoy the quality tutorials you are showing everyone! You're my go to when it comes to heli setup, trips and tricks! You can look around, nobody really is doing the breakdown and best pricing setups. You see it on desktop pc setups but we need one for the heli world :)

A great video yet again Jeff ! I use the stock ESC that comes with the Goosky RS4 and the initial spool up is imo too aggressive, even if I move the throttle to 10%. So blade tightness is really important, thanks for sharing that with us. Would have been great as well to see two comparison videos of a spool up with a loose and a tight blade.
@westhobbiesrc8051
@westhobbiesrc8051 9 ай бұрын
I’m glad the video was helpful! Really? I don’t think my RS4 is that aggressive on spool up. I’ll have to double check! I can definitely make a video even if it’s just a short on how blade tightness affects the spool up of the helicopter. As of now, I don’t believe the RS4 ESC is programmable, but I’ll have to double check that.

Thanks, your videos are always informative. I bought my first SAB, RAW 580 and my RT Ultra blades will not fit with a blade washer. Can I run without washers? Due to medical reasons I have not flown it yet but when I do I want to be sure everything is OK. Thanks for the tip on the screws for the canopy attachment.

Thank you, I’m glad the video is helpful. Yes, I run RTU 580s on my 580.. it is perfectly OK to have no blade washers. As the blades are too thick to run a washer.

Good info. PS Jeff, regarding the Goosky S1 tail blow out I found that my tail blade would rotate in the tail motor under moderate pressure even with the screw torqued. I had to replace my tail boom due to previous crashes due to tail blow out and so I just replaced the tail motor while I was doing that boom work, and of course a new tail blade. Also a new main shaft and feathering shaft. Well that fixed my tail blow out issues. Also the helicopter is incredibly smooth again. Regarding the S2 it has never been crashed and I checked the tail blade and it will slip under moderate to strong pressure so I tightened it even more. Unfortunately that did not fix the tail blow outs I'm experiencing with the S2. It's unfortunate because now I don't have confidence doing maneuvers at low altitude. I am hoping you are able to test and let me know what you come up with as I'd really like to fix mine if possible. Or I'd like to know if it's just a characteristic of this helicopter. The maneuver that I found will blow it out every time is an inverted loop with max elevator.

I did fly the S1 this weekend. I put 10 flights on it high head, speed and hard collective and I could not get the tail to blow out. I haven’t flown the S2 yet because I crashed it and haven’t put it back together lol but I have a lot of flights on my S2 and never got it to blow no matter what I tried.
