so happy to see a nod to red white and royal blue for once, i watch a ton of video essays about romcoms and no one ever mentions it when they're talking about the romcom renaissance!! meanwhile its one of the most successful romcoms of the last 10 years and its everything a romcom is meant to be (romantic, funny, camp, optimistic, angsty, steamy, memorable, actors are fresh faces). i hate the idea of RWRB getting sidelined/excluded from the renaissance narrative just because its m/m. and i still think it was deserving of a verbal mention buttt still, i'm happy to see you thought to include it at all

Leap Year was simultaneously underrated and accurately rated in my opinion, as a person who grew up on it

I love romantic movies, whether comedy or drama, I love when the boy gets the girl/the girl gets the boy, and they live happily ever after❤❤. I have many favourites, I'll name a few; "A warm December" "love is a many splendoured thing" "love story". I also consider "the sound of music" a romantic comedy😃. Thank you for this upload 👏🏼👏🏼🤗

I would be excited for the rom com comeback if movies had decent writing, good storytelling, and with you on that, good dialogue. I can’t stand the “i am saying the joke as satire. Do you like the self awareness we are doing here?” Humor. I can’t stand it so much I had to repeat that statement. It is one reason I did not enjoy the Barbie movie that much or Anyone but You. Companies need to stop treating the audience like they are idiots and shoving everything into dialogue instead of showing it. It is nice seeing the gems that you would least expect. At the time, “to all the boys” came at the right time. I did not expect to love it as much as I did. It was a homage to classic 80s film, but still created their own story. The chemistry between the characters was great. The dialogue didn’t feel like they were shoving things down our throat. It felt organic. I also liked Leap Year. Yeah, it was tropey, but again, there was fun humor and dialogue and there was something relatable about the two leads. And I felt people were passionate about what they were making. Not every movie has to be Oscar bait or a big blockbuster. Just make something smart and fun and respects its audience while trying something new.

Yeah I definitely some rom coms lean too meta or are too self-aware almost like they’re talking down to ppl who enjoy rom coms?? It’s strange

You've really opened my eyes to the influence of tiktok on book sells and film production! I've seen other channels roasting booktok but was more interested in your positive approach. Definitely was worth watching! Thanks!
