Your video from 7yrs ago popped up after I watched this video in my utube feed where you did a video counting bars in a song. Tom McDonald comes right out of gate spitting out bars then Adam Calhoun and of Course DaX. Song is amazing the things they cover in 31/2 mins. Black and White please check it out and if you like it please share it thank you. 🙏🙏🏾

I think this is what’s wrong with popular music in the social media era. It started with song length going from 4+ minutes down to just over 2 minutes. Modern music feels more like the background music for a tv commercial than anything else to me. Pretty soon we’re going to be full circle back to ringtone length songs. How can you adequately convey the emotion that will resonate with an audience for decades in 2 minutes? Songs should be about storytelling with a beginning, a middle and an end just like a movie. But maybe that’s just a sign that I’m really getting old because I despise TikTok.
@simplyme1705

I think you’re onto something but also consider a lot of Motown oldies songs were short and you felt them. I think you’re either telling a story with emotion or you’re not….but I’m wondering if it’s about attention span and lack of connection.

@@simplyme1705 you’ve definitely got a point with the attention span deficit. Meanwhile their connection is real, as they’re leading themselves to early graves. That generation’s dying at a much early age than any other generation.

I would say for independent rappers it would make a lot more sense to take advantage of the free reach TT provides, but to not lean entirely into it when promoting your music. Finding ways to provide value on other platforms including your website is a better long term plan. I also think varying your content offering is key. Creating Genius style lyric breakdown videos. Performing more than just the catchiest part on these platforms. Also, keeping in mind that certain demographics, usually younger ones, are known to have shorter attention spans. So some of this is a part of a larger issue in society at large.

I've been on a break from Tik Tok for the last 2 months, and honestly, it's felt like such a weight of my chest cause I don't know what songs are currently being played to death. I don't have to worry about who is currently going to be a rapper of the week or a what anyone is doing. I'm just enjoying creating what I want in my own space and I couldn't be happier

TikTok is just like SoundCloud when it comes to rapping how they put you in a box and say you’re a TikTok rapper like they did with some people when it came to SoundCloud
@manniking233
@manniking233 10 ай бұрын
SoundCloud was more suitable for artists to talk with their fans and bounce ideas off with comments till they got better. TikTok, with its cruel algorithm, is an impersonal son ofabitch that turns the fans into unpredictable monsters that the rapper needs to keep guessing and reading to find what they want. Thus, rappers only can achieve the barest minimum it would take to keep a consumer's attention, instead of the SoundCloud sound, where you could double down on what the fans liked hard and push risky experiments on them to see how they reacted. TikTok is so ruthless it kills any desire for rappers to experiment artistically but restricts them to just guessing and only trying out stuff that makes economic sense, even it is artistically bankrupt nonsense.

@CurtissKingTV
@CurtissKingTV 10 ай бұрын
I think they can be a helpful part of the promotional process. But I don’t think we should make them our singular focus because as influencers they don’t have a singular role. They are usually loyal to their sponsors and core audience. So relying on them to break our music is a risky game of dependency. I think it’s much better to create content outside of just your music that increases YOUR influence. That way you can break your own music.

And it seems black people are completely clueless to that. Like we don’t know we’re under attack by higher ups.
