@@jazzampa I’m not talking to every musician, I’m talking specifically to Rappers with this message. Generalized Traction is not my goal, turning you “on” is not my goal, perfect aim and precision is my goal. My advice to you, upload a profile picture if your personal goal is traction. 250k subscribers, I’m doing just fine 😆

You essentially have to be a content creator in order to make it in music. It's not about how good you are anymore. It's about how much people like you. Your talent isn't really important anymore as long as you can get people to like you. Some people don't like showing everything about their lives on the internet which in term makes them feel like it's pointless.

Great video man, the game has changed, it's bigger than the music, gota connect with fans past the music, and that's thru content creation, I've grown to 7.4 million followers on tiktok, 1.2 million on Facebook, almost a milli on Instagram, all thru content creation connecting with fans 🙏🏾

One thing I’ll add though is if you are tryna get your music heard keep the content based around that. I’ve seen so many producers get a buzz off of hoping on viral content/producer drama etc…. Then the music stuff does terrible Put out what you wanna be known for Otherwise ur gonna be chasing trends

Sometimes it has to do with multiple reasons. 1. Overstaturated music market 2. Work ethic/attitude 3. No diversity in music 4. Inflated egos 5. Doesn't know the meaning of "patience" and "hardwork".

I think why the marketing part seems to lack is because artist are mainly at the business alone. It can be frustrating to have to work equally on marketing when all you want to do is create. Companies get big with teams. Most content doesn't put enough emphasis on having a team in place.

Yea the music speaking for itself is over, unless you already have a base that's already ready to listen to you. Stay visible, stay dangerous. However you can, make it happen.

What a lot of indie artists that you say looking for roll outs & wanting to meet deadlines are the ones that be looking for overnight success, these are the ones who think that if they drop a song at the same time as someone else & try to upstage them from what they do they would gain traction with going viral, lots of them don't even care about marketing in less than two week & they ain't reaching the number of viewers they were looking for they going ghost again till they release another track instead of pushing the same track for the whole year.

What you just described is the foundation of new content. To me that’s the beauty of the time we live in. You can easily start a video with a hook that says “I really hate music content…so I’m doing this instead….”

I love this and I worked at a major for a few years. One thing I noticed in terms of attitude between rappers and other artists (sometimes not always) was the “I am too cool for school attitude”. Almost like some people didn’t want to be seen as trying (or in their eyes desperate).

I drop two tracks a month with no music videos and only use paid social media ads, and I do very well in streams and got a cool small fan base now. I know I still have a ways to go tho, but you can be low key and still accumulate fans, just gotta make good art, promote and pop out every now and then. My next strategy is merch and music videos next summer. This a marathon not short sprint. 🏁

You're the algorithm. The work you put into pushing your stuff is a big part of that. If the Internet algorithm doesn't work for you then constantly go out amongst the people and push it. Every event that you can get to take your merch and music. Make sure the music is good too.

So basically you have 2 options. 1. Get good at making content (you can get good in 1 year with consistency and hard work, so people will hear your music while you’re in your prime) 2. Reinvent the wheel and come up with something that revolutionizes music (could probably take you your entire life and your music probably won’t be heard until you die) What’s your pick?

Yeah, as a Black creator myself I'm not denying the existence of a price gap for different types of content creators based upon their race and appeal to specific demographics. My question is, why do I feel entitled to have the same access to that capital and audience to validate my success? I myself accounted for $70K in DistroKid affiliate sign ups and I'm on retainer as a Black content creator. The gentleman in the pinned comment above is also a brotha that's getting to it. Truth be told, in our space of music there's simply not enough creators that look like us, to back your statement as a fact. They can't pay who they don't see.
