Fun fact: the Norse actually arrived on Greenland *before* the current Inuit population. There had been previous paleo-Inuit peoples on Greenland long before that, but they either died out or moved back to mainland North America (no one knows which). When Erik the Red arrived, Greenland was completely unpopulated. Then other, unrelated Inuits migrated to Greenland from the north. They and the Norse settlers were initially unaware of each other since they were on opposite sides of the island. And when the last Norse settlers vanished, those Inuits (the ancestors of the modern Greenlanders) became the only population.

correct brother, but other emigrants from Scandinavia have also settled there and that raises the question of whether Greenland only belongs to the Inuit. The Sámi can also suddenly claim that large parts of Norway and Sweden belong to them. Just a point of clarification regarding the name that the peoples of the North American Arctic Ocean coastline make reference to themselves. The word INUIT is Inuktitut (the language of the Inuit) means "The People". Therefore in English we refer to Inuit as a plural word. It refers to a cultural group of people NOT TO AM INDIVIDUAL. THEREFORE YOU NEVER ADD AN 'S' TO THE WORD 'INUIT'! it's already plural! An individual Inuit person is an INUK which means ''person'' in Inuktitut! 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 🇩🇰 🇵🇦 🇬🇱 🇵🇦 🇩🇰 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦

And don't forget this deal that Usa made with Denmark. "In the period after 1848, the West Indies gradually became a drain on the Danish treasury, and from the 1860s there were considerations about selling them. The United States - which was now the islands' dominant trading partner - appeared to be the obvious buyer. In 1902, a sale to the United States was very close, but the sales agreement could not obtain a majority in the County Council, which is why the proposal was dropped. During World War I, a sale to the United States became relevant again. With the opening of the Panama Canal in 1913, the port of Charlotte Amalie became even more attractive, and the Americans wanted to prevent the islands from falling into German hands. Denmark and the United States reached an agreement on the terms of a sale in 1916, which, among other things, meant that the United States recognized Denmark's claim to Greenland. The price was almost 100 million kroner (25 million dollars), and the sales agreement with the United States was signed on 4 August 1916. Political unrest arose over the process, which had partly taken place through secret negotiations. The sale was therefore the subject of the first Danish referendum on 14 December 1916, which resulted in a majority in favour of selling the islands to the United States. The population of the islands was not consulted, but it is likely that they too wanted to sever ties with a colonial power that failed to ensure decent living conditions and income opportunities. The islands were handed over to the United States on 31 March 1917 and were then named the United States Virgin Islands."

Or only Greenlanders??? It must also apply to the "Danes" who live in Denmark who are descendants of Greenlanders or what?? Syntes Greenland must see to it that it is clarified who can vote and how it must be done and as soon as possible, so that we Danish taxpayers, with all our vulnerable and disadvantaged citizens, can use our money to improve the position of the socially disadvantaged in Denmark. This whole situation is a result of our leaders in the Nordics, past and present, having failed by not cooperating... so it is high time to join forces and create a common union in the military field. Interesting, but doesnt mention whether ir not the huge island was inhabited prior to Viking settlements. Inuits, for example.

The history I heard was that The Vikings were the first inhabitants there, a breakaway group led by Erik the Red!

@ It is a bit like the Arabs and Egyptians in Gaza and Judea trying to tell us that Jews never lived in Israel. They get 75% of an area, rename it Jordan, and whine when somebody else get the last 25%. Norway does not want the territory, as long as we can keep our waters, and we keep our right to make fun of Russian and American submarines caught up in our fishing nets. We live mostly in harmony with our sami people that travel between Russia and Norway, so nobody know how many there is. But Yes, they claim to save everybody, that include our waters and freeing Norway from occupation, even if everybody know it was the Norwegian resistance and Russian in the north. No American died freeing Norway, but thousands of Russian soldiers did.

In a rule based world order paper and words matter. In a reality based world there is order, disorder and reordering. The world is currently in a disorder phase. In disorder, paper and words lose their gravitas.....The US showed remarkable restraint from 1946 - present. I believe the example set by US leadership during the last 79 years (no imperial land grabs and such) was for naught. A period of expansionist conquest started in 2008 (Russia into Georgia by force and China, Saudi Arabia, India, UAE and others by soft power forces) and eventually to gloves come off. The relative peace and prosperity of the last 79 years will dissipate and hot conflicts will rise until such time as there is once again a dominant winner and subjugated losers. There is little evidence that humankind in this century is fundamentally different than humans in previous periods in history (all littered with much more war and violent conflict than the miraculous period pf the last 79 years).

If Greenland ever was to be sold, wouldn't it better to sell it back to Norway? Invest some of its wealth to buy back what once was its heritage? Of course its not so easy as Greenland belongs to the people living there and Denmark. On the other hand, USA has no historical right to claim Greenland. USA can rise the money, but are in great debts...
