Nice work. Straight forward. Among one of the most intuitive Optima brake instructional videos I've seen. I like the lack of verbal explanation throughout. Just the facts. Now provide videos on the Optima spark plugs, front brakes, throttle body cleaning, etc.

I am extremely sorry for any miscommunication but i wasn't making a "brakes and rotors" video the title says "brakes". This video was really just made to show the process and the tools needed because its nothing on KZbin that gets down to the nitty gritty in less than 20 minutes without excessive talking. There are other videos with surfaced or new rotors... Glad i could be of some help the few of you that appreciate the video !

You should never put fresh pads on a scored rotor. Always have the rotor turned or buy a new one. Also, you should clean and put fresh grease on the slide pins to keep them from seizing up and ends of the pad bracket that slide in the shims to insure the fresh pads can release from the rotor properly after braking. The pads should slide relatively easy in the shims without much force behind them or they are too tight in the shims and will cause the pads to wear on the rotor and shorten the life of the pads...

I noticed that too, the rotors either needed to be replaced, or machined
@geneharvey5 жыл бұрын
I don't think you should sand down rotors I think you should just simply replace them when they're bad it's not safe to sand or work on rotors other than the replacement of them
@SikConVicTioN5 жыл бұрын
@@joesomethingorother2302 only reason he didn't change the rotors are because the lower bolt is a pain to get out with out removing upper control arm.. and the bolt from upper control arm can't be removed with disconnecting the lower bolt on shock.. It is possible to remove the caliper without doing all that. But it's not fun either way

Do you have to add brake fluid or bleed the lines at all? I also noticed you didn’t take the cap of the brake fluid when compressing it back down. Is your video the complete way to do it for rear?
@7bproctor6 жыл бұрын
Just wanna make sure I do it right because I know the front pads have more steps to it. Awesome video tho man
@jontemcbride19976 жыл бұрын
Sorry my video only shows the straight forward part of the job, You only have to bleed your brakes if say for instance you put a new calipers on or change a brake line or hose, because then the line has been disconnected and air is going to be in the brake system. But you can never go wrong with opening the cap it helps relieve pressure from the fluid being pushed back into the reservoir it won't hurt to use extra precaution. And sometimes you may have to top your fluid off, it often times shouldn't lose very much fluid. I always check the resevoir after I've finished and pumped my brakes up just to see if i need to top it off.
@jontemcbride19976 жыл бұрын
But thank you, and yes this video is step by step, unless you have a SX turbo model because it may have bigger rotors, calipers, ect. that are needed because of the extra power.
@7bproctor6 жыл бұрын
Jonte Mcbride so I should be fine just doing it exactly how you did it in this video?
@SikConVicTioN5 жыл бұрын
Wow those rotors are toast.. why would you not change them too?
@michaeldiaz7546 жыл бұрын
Brake grease is needed?!
@jimmymolinaro75544 жыл бұрын
One problem, if you have the "screw in retractable" type pistons like I do, that tool you're using is worthless. You'll need the one that rotates as it pushes.

5 minutes of my life wasted, i assumed by rear brakes it would be done right, anyone have any tricks on rear rotor replacement?
@benjaminmwalter894 жыл бұрын
Jason Wallace rear control arm and shock need to be uh bolted to to get at the one bolt
@goldwolf06064 жыл бұрын
Not everyone needs to change up their rotors. For a brake pad video, this was great. If you want a rotor video, go find a rotor video dumb ass...
