Thanks for posting this, well explained process. After watching, I have successfully replaced left and right axle seals on my 2014 Silverado with 210000 km.

Great video! This rear axle definitely has some extra process to it. Your video really help with how to go about the stubborn c clip and stubborn axle shaft. Lifesaver!😊

Very nice video. You should do a video of the parking shoe replacement next.

I would but it's not my truck and the guy who owned it traded it for a newer ram with air ride suspension. Sometime in the coming months he has me installing a bds 4" lift on it.

Thanks man had the same problem with 2012 Chevy silverado had to use a chisel to move the axle far enough to get the c clip out

Use c clamp on hub and other side of c clamp to where the brake caliper bold hole is on the axle and it will press the axle in far enough to remove/ re install c clip. Had same issue

Agree with the RTV on the seal. I'm doing mine this weekend coming.

We have a trail video coming out in a few minutes. However it’s not with the ZR2. Wifey wanted to drive her Jeep.

When putting the truck in neutral to turn the drive shaft. Do you recommend putting the truck in neutral with the column shifter and turning it off (some lights still stay on) or removing the linkage next to the transmission and manually shifting to neutral?
@BigFrogs4x4Ай бұрын
I click the ignition switch just far enough forward to shift it into neutral and turn off as much as possible light wise. If it's going to take a while put a battery charger on the battery.

I suspect I have a very small seal leak on my 3500 srw would it better to replace or just keep an eye on fluid level
@BigFrogs4x47 ай бұрын
It will need replaced if it's getting anywhere near the brakes. Some states it won't pass inspection. But yes, keep an eye on the fluid level. Rebuilding a rear differential is very expensive.

I worked the spider gears out trying to get a rotor off with the gear puller.. basically the pin goes through the smaller gears & the big washer plates? Is there anything else I should watch out for?
@patw446924 күн бұрын
I got it fixed. It wasn't as bad as I thought.
@patw446924 күн бұрын
Turns out the rotor wasn't rusted on, the brake shoe was sticking to the rotor. Had to turn the star wheel back. Sure am glad I didn't break anything with that gear puller stunt.
@BigFrogs4x423 күн бұрын
@patw4469 oh ya! That can happen! Mostly happens to me on Older rust vehicles
@patw446923 күн бұрын
@@BigFrogs4x4 for sure. I definitely had to think outside the box with getting the spider gears back into place though. As a safety precaution, I put the tire back on, on the side I had completed. But it turned out to be very useful to have the tire back on in this predicament. So after turning one of the spider gears in halfway across the 2 horizontal gears, I put the other gear in. I quickly realized the other spider was going to fall out again if I didn't have another hand on it. With both hands full, I was then wondering how I was going to turn them the rest of the way to hover over the pin holes! So I took my foot and spun the tire while I held the gears in place 😅 but it worked! I stuffed that pin in there as quick as I could and moved on with life.

So I’m to the point of turning the driveshaft to release the pin and it will not turn more than a few inches in both directions..Any thoughts? Yes i’m in neutral
@BigFrogs4x43 жыл бұрын
So driveshaft wont turn?
@BigFrogs4x43 жыл бұрын
Put transfer case in neutral if you can. If you have the calipers off don't hit the brake pedal

I have to do this on my 2001 S10. Any idea how much a shop would charge to do it?
@BigFrogs4x42 жыл бұрын
It is hard to say. Depends on labor rate and if all goes well. No rust etc. Although I think the s10 is easier.
@dw19852 жыл бұрын
@@BigFrogs4x4 Can you take n educated guess, ballpark figure?
@BigFrogs4x42 жыл бұрын
If charging $70 per hr then 2-3 hr labor. Are they doing 1 side or both. 1 probably closer to 2 hr
@dw19852 жыл бұрын
@@BigFrogs4x4 I just got the one side to do.

No need to put anything on the gasket. I reused mined after a fluid change it is fine.
