You should replace the crush washer (crush ring) on the drain plug with a new crush ring each oil change to avoid leaks.

Very informational where I could follow suit for my 2021 RDX. Personally I also prefer using Costco brand 0W-20 and I loaded up 4 boxes when they recently discounted a couple months ago; but I mostly will avoid the hassle and give $30 to Walmart to do my oil change as I provide my synthetic oil and Mobil 1 filter. If it is 4 wheels brake job then I will take the hassle and DIY, and save $400 labor cost.
@mrtrytofixit Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Good point. I wasn't aware that Walmart offered that option, BYOO, lol. At $30 labor, its a great alternative. In my case, I do it for therapeutic reasons....its fun.

$30 for a change with your own oil? A bit steep, most mechanics do it for $15 if you bring your own stuff some might not even charge you if your a long time customer with them.
@danny1103 Жыл бұрын
@@emmanuelalva6597 $30 is Walmart (with inflation going on) while I can shop around inside or around the mall, and I'm sure private mechanic shop will charge $15-20 just for labor, but the ones closest to me were very booked in the Covid and Post-Covid era so they are very selective with their business hours and customers who would spent $300+ with them for repair and maintenance (and less for me who BYOO discounted Costco Brand ). So I don't want much of the hassles with DIY or finding another mechanic who will open early in the morning during weekends just to save $10-$15. But then I recently did my own brake pad jobs on all wheels and saved at least $350. This way it is more time and cost effective for me.

@@emmanuelalva6597 Thanks for sharing. In NY is difficult to even find a garage who will do it if you provide materials, let alone for $15/$30. I would certainly take my vehicle to them for $15!
@emmanuelalva6597 Жыл бұрын
@@mrtrytofixit NY is probably a lot different. It’s mostly done as a courtesy where I’m at, they don’t make much money off lol changes but they’ll make that up when you need a mechanic and you bring it back to to them for work.

The 2023 MDX owner's manual says to put new oil on the filter gasket. I have always used new oil on the gasket.
@mrtrytofixit Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! in my opinion, unless the oil is full of dirt or metal filings, I don't believe it would make much of a difference. its just such a small gasket! about a drop or so of oil. But if the new oil is nearby, why not use the new oil!

@@Mark-rw3kw At over $1 million dollars a year to have that licensing I don't blame them for not having it. I wouldn't pay that gangster bullshit money either. Second, when you look at their specifications which are found on their website and compare them to the API, Amsoil far exceeds those requirements. Next, I just had my oil tested by Blackstone Labs two oil changes ago, and on that last test under Zinc the universal average for oils is 774, and my oil had 644. Also, the universal average on phosphorous is 674 and my oil had 501. So, I am not sure what bullshit forum you read on, but Amsoil looks to be the opposite of what you believe.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Looks like one could suck the oil out of the dipstick tube with an oil extractor (I used the kind that is attached to an air compressor), and if the right wheel is removed than the filter can be accessed without having to remove the skid plate cover beneath the car.
