It also is so nice to see how thick you need to apply the RTV. (And which type of RTV). I was very unsure, but it's great to have this as a reference.

Get a hack saw and cut all of the pipes. Use a EGR delete kit from CZP (will be cheaper with shipping, and is based out of Arizona for faster shipping) Use the block off plates on the plenum, the plug on the driver's side manifold, and remove all of the vacuum lines. You -can- remove it by tilting the engine forward with the transmission out, but to be honest, that's not much farther away than pulling the engine. Also, your det sensor just doesn't have continuity. Check connector and wiring

Glad I watched this before I started taking my engine apart. Didn't realize you had to put the rtv on the exhaust valve cover.

I did the same on a TT, its not easy because every is soo compact in the engine bay, but not impossible, nice video !

Lets go with this. Try to start the car each time to narrow results. 1- Verify all 4 pins are still aligned in wiring harness side clip of the CAS connector. Sometimes they back out. 2- Check the ground right by the 6th cylinder coilpack bolts. (Closest coilpack to driver side). Clean both sides and plenum, reconnect. 3- Check F23 harness clip, which is by the fuse box under the hood, by drivers headlight. It's the "White" one in a bunch of 3 clips. 4- Test CAS (twist w/ no fuel pres)

I pulled it, there was some corrosion so I cleaned both the CAS and connector. Use electrical cleaned and wire brush. D/C battery also, still wont fire up. Now should I pull the CAS or try another step. I didn't depressurize prior to the unplug, Is it flooded?

Make sure the EGR solenoid under the passenger side plenum is plugged in properly and vacuum lines connected to the throttle body and EGR valve. (hard pipe under the plenum is removed during coolant bypass and replaced with a single vacuum line) Check cylinder 6 fuel injector connector and coilpack. You may be picking up a misfire. Do a power drop test if you hear a misfire to make sure it's cyl 6. Replace fuel inj \ spark plug \ coilpack \ ptu as necessary.

Z owners outside of California delete the EGR because it is extra emissions equipment that makes maintenance much more difficult to perform. If you are in a state where emissions are not mandatory, EGR block off plates may be worth your time. It also eliminates ~6ft of vacuum tubing.

i have a faded pearl yellow 1990 300zx twin turbo i have a power steering leak how much should it cost to fix the problem? also what color should i paint it i was thinking black,blue or white. thanks

I spent around 2-3 hours. For the exhaust cover side, I used a jeweler's flat head screwdriver that fits perfectly in the groove. For the engine side, I packed around the cam with paper towels and pulled the OEM excess off with my hands to keep material under control, followed by a flat razor to shave any thin spots. Both sides were then finished up with throttle body cleaner (B12 Chem tool) on a rag, which brought the surface to a mirror shine very quickly. Good luck! Lol

Alright, so I bought the kit and just havent had time to throw it on. my latest project was replacing a bad fuel injector, which it runs nicer, but still not up to par. so yesterday I decided to put a little rubber down and after that the car wont idle just dies. now It wont even start and gives me an error code of 11. CAS... I really dont want to drop it off at a shop and pay big bucks, any ideas? thanks!

do you know why the people delete the egr...or block the same...im asking because my engine ist off (out) of the car and i don't know if i have to do this? thanks for the information

So Thanks for the help, I pulled the CAS and cleaned it and car fired right up and runs good now. Back to the EGR delete kit, I just noticed that CZP webpage says for race/performance tuned engines only, is my car going to run when I delete this headache?
@CoreysZ3211 жыл бұрын
4- (Continued), If you can hear the injectors clicking with the key in the on position, car off, then the CAS is sending a signal successfully. 5- All else fails, replace CAS

Expect it to cost around $180 or so for the power steering fix, as it's usually the high pressure line. It's not easy to replace, so that doesn't include labor. Verify where it is leaking. The part is probably cheapest through Z1 for power steering parts. For the valve covers? It was a very hard decision. Play with it and see what you come up with! Good luck.

Corey: I wanted to ask you since you have a 96. Did you come across any crucial torque specs that are different for the 96? Especially for the 120k service...i plan on going off of
@CoreysZ324 жыл бұрын
That is a fantastic question. I haven't noticed torque spec differences, but haven't been looking. I pop open the FSM for the year that I'm working on and recalculate average torque for each spec, every time. Nothing has ever raised a red flag in my mind.

Step 1, Pull off the CAS connector. If you need a picture of where the CAS is located, let me know. Inspect the connector for corrosion and reconnect the CAS. 80% of the time, it's a bad connection, and probably wiggled around during the pull. If the connector was corroded, this would easily cause the engine to cut and not start up. (but still turn over). Heads up. If you remove the CAS and twist the sensor, listening for injectors to click, Depressurize fuel first! It floods cylinders!

Google "Clamp Light" and grab a cheap one with a ~60w bulb! It's super cheap and you can clamp it straight to the hood latch on the hood. It aims straight down, as well as provides some warmth for the cold winter nights of labor :) I just saw these also available at the local hardware store for around $10!

CoreysZ32 hey this is a nice video. i can't believe how clean your engine is. i bought a z32 for $1000 and im getting it back alive. i had HUGE problems with the car losing power until it wouldn't run under load at all anymore, getting gas but not burning it and it was smoking black in the end. i took off the intake plenum and found out that the injector seals area dead and there is a lake of oil near them and at the spark plugs as well. i ordered the intake valve cover gaskets but couldn't find exhaust gaskets, so i am guessing there is no gasket, only gasket maker. which one are you using exactly?
@CoreysZ3210 жыл бұрын
Chris Chujkal Hey Chris! Thanks! I switched over to Permatex Ultra Grey for exhaust valve covers for the past 2 years with 100% success rates since. I hope that it's just the valve covers causing your pool of oil! The oil -can- cause missfires by grounding out the coilpacks before they can transfer electricity to the spark plug. I'd start with a compression test to see where the engine is at before progressing, then doing a missfire test and ohm testing the injectors (it's very common for phase I injectors to be dead). Good luck! I've brought many Z's back from the dead, so don't give up :) ~C

So I'm getting an EGR valve code and a detonation sensor code. I've heard you have to move the motor forward to get it out, I'm pretty mechanically inclined but dont want to get over my head. I like in Nv so smog is no big deal. what do you suggest and cheap EGR delete kits?

NO baffle in drivers side valve cover? Must puke oil smoke in fast right turns. Maybe newer models came from factory that way, like some of the things they deleted from earlier models.

Uh oh.... Check all of the vacuum lines from the balance tube (back right) to the evap canister (under the driver headlight), and the vacuum solenoid by the fuse box and hood security sensor. Make sure that vacuum solenoid is plugged in. Make sure all of the clamps to the carbon canister are on. Sometimes, idiots who don't realize the OBDII functions will pick up the modifications and will delete 96 carbon canister and EGR! (Reached max character count, replying #2)
