The microfreak has its own unique personality and part of being really unique is that it doesnt sound or feel like other synths. The same goes for the 303. Imo this was sorta cool but sounded very little like a 303 and def had a different workflow and vibe. Thats okay though. This machine isnt meant to emulate, its correctly marketed as experimental. You can twist knobs and end up at truly weird places with it and it just sorta works. Ive had great success using it that way and very little success trying to emulate sounds

Thanks great sound! This is a very decent emulation of the Acid Bass. Do you have an opinion about the Behringer TD-3? I wonder if it's redundant having already the MF.
@Andy801_dawless_music4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for feedback, Rodrigo! If you want to get sound close to the original Roland TB-303 as much as possible then TD-3 is better choice. Also, TD-3 has really cool overdrive FX, and MF doesn’t have any FXs so you may need additional FX pedal or FX box for MF. I would say, try to play acid bass with mFreak and if you feel it is not enough then expand

@@Andy801_dawless_music What about just running the Microfreak's output through Logic FX (Chorus, Overdrive, Saturation etc.) Do you think that could help craft the sound?
@SisterRose3 жыл бұрын
The trick to the "authentic" 303 sound was the filter which didn't really self oscillate and sort of compressed when cranked. The reason the Microfreak can get kind of close vibe wise is probably that it takes a bit longer for the Resonance to self oscillate for whatever reason. I never thought to use the Formant though that helps emulate the 303 squelchiness quite a bit.
@Andy801_dawless_music3 жыл бұрын
Didn't know these details on 303 resonance. Thanks!

the 18db/oct slope was also very much part of the sound (on TB303 ORG)

what makes tb303 a tb303 is more thez sequencer with accents and slide then the filter .... in the past i've used tb303 to control analog gear , or even translated a tb303 sequence to midi sequenceur controlling midi analog gear....

Greetings from Sacramento, California. This is just what I was looking for. How to get Acid Bass, on my MicroFreak. Great explanation, with examples. I learned a lot, and you saved me from spending money, on a dedicated bass machine. I think the MicroFreak + the Korg Volca Drum, is a dynamite EDM pair. Thanks for making and sharing this video. Best wishes for your continued success.

This was very helpfull and insightful. Don't wish to sound condiscending, but your English is very good, I found it very easy to follow your tutorial. Thanks. Keep up the good work, man! (Subscribed).

Nice tutorial, thanks for sharing :-) My lines still suck though, would you mind explaining your choice of notes and what other notes might sound great a little bit?

A way to get patterns that I use. Update the firmware to at least v2.0. This means that an arp can be made into a sequence. Set pattern length to 16 notes, Switch on arpeggiator, choose pattern mode. Switch on note hold. Keep trying different chords until you get a good one. Switch the arp to a sequence. You can now edit the notes if you like. Stop the sequence and press record. Move through the sequence 1 step at a time and add glides. Accents are done by opening the filter on some steps. This will use 2 lanes of motion sequencing. Virtual analogue oscillator type will be closest to a 303.

More fun to be had by deleting a few notes to make rests and by using different sequence lengths. Try 7!
@Andy801_dawless_music3 жыл бұрын
+1 to what @davebell said. If you good with scales try different scales. Minor maybe. Also, I like to add only few high notes so it will be more about playing bass. Also, Dice / Random is great friend here. I can press Random many times until I meet something good.

To what you said in the end, how to control the Filter Cutoff and Resonance individually per note: 1. Stop the sequence from playing and press the Record Button. 2. You can cycle through each note individually with the Rate/Swing knob (again, make sure the sequence is not playing) 3. On each note, set the Cutoff and Resonance individually 4. Deselect record. Each note now has an individual Cutoff and Resonance. You can hear this when playing the sequence

Thats Sounds like pac man on Biker Meth. No front mate but the sound of the legendary Roland TB-303 is unique. Her dirty and nasty sound, i love it. The behringer td-3, its a very good and a cheap alternativ to TB-303. But the microFreak sounds disgusting, like a kitten with cans bonded on his tail i guess🤷🏼♂️😅
@Andy801_dawless_music3 жыл бұрын
Sure, I don't aim to replace TB303 with MF but rather explore the possibilities of MicroFreak recreating such classical machines. You r going to like the result when i get to know it! 😀👌
@gianfry19804 жыл бұрын
if you owned a real TB-303 or a good clone you wouldn't say that MicroFreak can create the sound of a 303 since it has neither accent nor glide, sorry friend, you are light years from the TB-303

Its as close as the microfreak can get

The micro freak has a dedicated knob for glide you dingus, unless you meant slide then ye sit doesn’t have it but get your facts right before tearing someone down. Makes you look stupid.

cooldude2315 stupid answer,then you also explain how to get the accent on microfreak
@software70DKR4 жыл бұрын
@@gianfry1980 pretty easy actually. Since you can set parameters per step you can accent notes however you'd like including the env shape of 303. Did you watch the video?

Dylan Rogers yes but i liste the sound and is different from all others clone bea sue Microfreak have a 12 sem filter and the TB-303 have a 24db modify

Hate audio snobs like you. We’re all musicians trying to make good music with the gear we have. We all started from the same beginning where we knew nothing. There isn’t a set in stone what gear we need to make certain music. If it sounds good then it’s good.
@za4310 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Ive tried to get an acid sound out of this machine but I think a lot of what makes the 303 unique is its rhythmic qualities. Meaning its sequencer. Meaning its slide function. Maybe that stuff could be added though
