The biggest pointer I can give to get rid of those nubs is to remove the supports BEFORE curing. They're much less brittle that way.

Thank you! Will give that a try!

Before putting them in the IPA bath, soak them in some really hot water for about 10 minutes then watch the supports fall off without much force... give them a light sand then wash in IPA followed by curing.

How much material does it take to make a batch of coins? im interested in getting a 3d printer and learning how to use it

Hi there. It doesn’t take a lot at all. I made 50 coins I think and barely used half a container (and a container can run anywhere between $15-$30 depending on color etc). 3D printing is a blast. Resin printing can be messy but the quality is spectacular. What printer are you looking at?

@@MADEbyAPthis is seriously impressive! Came here searching for someone who made coins and I think I’m convinced. Need to make coins in batches for our police unit to hand out to spouses/supporters and I think this will be great. I do however wonder WHICH filament is best for holding up to wear/tear and high heat but isn’t too expensive as I will be making a lot of these and most will be giveaways. We are a not for profit. Thank you for a great tutorial!

@michellelynn1023 glad you found this helpful and we’re inspired! If you’re using filament instead of resin I’d probably go PETG. It has a high heat point to it. That being said the best quality will be if you went the resin route. Resin isn’t expensive and you could probably get a couple hundred out of a big bottle of resin.

This is so cool and helpful - I'm completely new to 3D modelling and printing (only downloaded Fusion today!). Is there a way to indent or engrave rather than extrude? Would i just put a negative number on the top, or is there a separate option/tool for doing that?
@MADEbyAP
@MADEbyAP Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And yes you can totally use negative numbers to achieve that effect. The best thing to do is just tinker with all the different controls. You’re going to have a blast!

I wan to resin print some Apex Legends coins, may I ask you what are the printing settings that you used when you sliced the file? Like Exposure Time, Bottom Exposure Time.
@MADEbyAP
@MADEbyAP Жыл бұрын
Hi there. I just used the settings outlined by the resin manufacturer which was elegoo for this one. I bell e it was something like 40 seconds bottom layer and 4 for each exposure. It seems that each manufacturers has their own guidance in exposure times. Have fun printing the coins!

Quick update as I’m currently printing some coins for an upcoming con. I made some adjustments as I was getting a little warping around the half way mark of the print. I slowed down the lift speed from 70 to 60 and also increased the exposure time by one second (so 4.5 from 3.5). Finding that I’m not getting nearly as much warping now. Hope that helps.

@@MADEbyAP thanks, I’ll give it a try by the end of october that I come back home where my printer is. I’ve been trying different positions and exposure times but I always get warping in the middle and sometimes a “melted” look where the supports are. It’s frustrating 😭

@JustAnndo ugh sorry yeah that’s the worst. I did find that tinkering with the lift speed and exposure time that is certainly helping. Let me me know how that works out. Safe travels!

How about coloured logo for coins?
@MADEbyAP
@MADEbyAP 9 ай бұрын
Totally. You would have to paint it though. I don’t believe there’s a multicolor resin printer available yet. You could do it on FDM but the quality/resolution won’t be that great.

Hrm. I don’t think I understand the question. Do you mean what are challenge coins used for? For me it was just a unique way to give something to someone that was uniquely branded. Some people hand out patches at conventions. Some people hand out stickers. I did this!
