Does look easy. And makes sense for POS. Especially with a year with ATM building up bitcoin users. I just added CoinPayments to my online business because seemed easier to integrate to my ecwid store compared to bitpay. Thanks Ben for another excellent video.

Great to see another merchant that accepts bitcoin! While I think it's a great idea that Jason will keep the bitcoin that he earns from the restaurant and use it to buy supplies from Amazon through Purse.io, I wanted to point out that using bitcoin in this way will likely complicate Matador Pizza's tax accounting. In fact, as far as I can tell, spending bitcoin complicates every Canadian's tax accounting! The Canada Revenue Agency treats all transactions where you exchange bitcoin for goods or services as barter transactions. This has tax implications beyond the simple cost of the good or service that you receive for your bitcoin. If, for example, when you exchanged your bitcoin for a pizza or knives, if the value of that bitcoin at the time of the exchange was higher than when you acquired those coins, then the CRA may consider you to have earned a taxable profit on those coins, which depending on the situation, it treats either as income (100% of which is taxable) or as a capital gain (50% of which is taxable). As a business, Matador Pizza will likely have tools to track these transactions and a tax accountant to report them correctly to the CRA, but Canadian consumers who use mobile bitcoin wallets are unlikely to have the tools to track all of these transactions and account for them in their tax returns. So, as long as the CRA treats bitcoin more like property or a commodity than like money, spending bitcoin makes filing your taxes much more complicated! DISCLAIMER: I'm not an expert on Canadian income tax law so please don't trust my opinion! Furthermore, please don't blame me if you pay too much or too little tax! While it seems that ordinary consumers face a taxable event when they spend their bitcoin, it's still not completely clear to me if this is, in fact, the case. Contact your tax professional for advice! Derek Mahar You do not have to pay tax on accepting bitcoin, as they are an intangible asset. He would need to pay tax if he is converting them to.cdn. This merchant needs a new consultant. But methinks they are in league to rip off kiddes with no software savvy.

This has been really informative. Thank you! I'm interested in potentially offering my DJ and lighting services for customers paying in BC, and would love to find more information on it. I was very excited to see TigerDirect accepts BC, and It would be awesome if Zzounds or Pro Sound & Stage Lighting started accepting BC as payment for DJ equipment.

Hi Ben, thanks for the informative video! Do you know if Bitpay offers referral/affiliate incentives? I inquired with them directly but have not heard back.
@BTCSessions
@BTCSessions 7 жыл бұрын
To tell you the truth I haven't heard anything like that being offered. I know places like Coinbase and Purse.io have offered that, but I think those sites are more likely to get a steady revenue stream from you promoting their business. I'd imagine that the margins are pretty thin for them thus far, especially in the brick & mortar store sector. If I find out anything to the contrary I'll definitely post it!

Thank you so much for all your very informative videos. You do such a great job. I live in the Calgary area as well and have tried to order a Bitpay card on line and it say's that it is not available in our area. How did you get your Bitpay card....??? What other serviceable card do you suggest to use for BTC in our area here??? Thank you for any help !!! Much appreciated.

Hey Sherry, you're very welcome! I actually don't have a Bitpay card, but I have cards from both Wirex and Bitwala. Both are pretty decent. I've used Bitwala a little bit more, but I'm now trying out the Wirex a little more to see which I prefer. I did videos on both of them if you take a look back through my previous material. I've been told that Bitpay will eventually have a card for Canadians, but things are currently in the works. Hopefully it comes soon!

So both of these cards are like a visa card and you can use them anywhere they take visa..??? Are these 2 cards usable throughout Canada and the USA..?? Thanks again. You are greatly appreciated and a true source of information and education. May run into you in Kensington one day!!
@BTCSessions
@BTCSessions 7 жыл бұрын
Yes they are both usable anywhere that accepts Visa/Mastercard. Basically you order a card from them, and have an app that allows you to use Bitcoin to load your card. Of course these aren't perfect. First off, they are only able to be denominated in USD, EUR and GBP right now. That means if you use them in Canada you get hit with a foreign currency exchange rate when you buy something. They are quite useful for travel though. Regular purchases in the currency of the card are free. So if you get a USD card and head down south, you can load it with Bitcoin whenever you want to make some purchases and you don't have to pay a currency conversion. I plan on using my GBP card when I go to London next month. Glad to have you watching Sherry! I'm down in Kensington from time to time grabbing coffee at Higher Ground, so maybe I'll see you down there sometime :)

Haha most brick and mortar stores don't wait for a confirmation. They accept more risk from credit card fraud. Also Bitpay would be taking the risk in this case, so you can make your purchase and go :)
