*UPDATE 5/30/2012*
Foscam has released a Firmware to support the DNS Server No-ip. This is great news because No-IP offers free accounts for personal use.
Firmware version:
System firmware version: 11.22.2.46
Web UI version: 2.4.10.2.001
A couple of my subscribers pointed out that DynDNS.org may have stopped offering free accounts. Slashdot.org reported something similar.
tech.slashdot.o...
I see Free listed on Dyn's website but I think they want you to first sign up for a free trial of their out their VIP (aka paid) program for 14 days. Afterward, I suspect you can cancel the paid service and stick with the free account. The hostname will expire every 30 days but you get 1 hostname to use.
This link compares the Free User vs VIP User.
dyn.com/dns/fre...
If you don't want to try out Dyn's VIP service, you can still use No-ip's Free service.

What if my IP address for the camera keeps changing?
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Tobi. I would recommend giving the camera a static IP address so it won't change during a reboot. I demonstrate how I set my camera to a static IP at 7:07 in this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3m3qaiPlph-sNEm7s Hope it helps.

AwkwardHamster Yes it does, but am I putting the same numbers in the fields besides the ip address? Also, my ATT/Mottorolla server preferences, I cant find how to port forward . is that necessary?
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 10 жыл бұрын
Port forwarding is necessary on most units, except for the plug and play models like the FI9821P I recently reviewed. I'm not familiar with the ATT/Motorola unit. Some routers call them tunnelling or pinhole. But I suspect it's located in the Firewall section of the router.

ok. i really appreciate your help! Im just reading this. I put the project on hold because I couldnt figure it out and didnt want to pay 15$ extra a month for static IP. Im going to begin working on it again :)
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 10 жыл бұрын
Hi. When do start working on this later, I don't think paying $15 extra a month is worth it. Opening ports is different from static or dynamic IP. If it didn't work with a dynamic IP from your internet provider, I don't think it'll work with a static IP. If your ISP specifically says they permit ports to be open on their router if you upgrade, then that's a different story.

I have a FI8918W and have ordered an FI8910W that should be delivered today. I was only able to view the 8918W when my computer was on and I was on the same network. This is the first time I've heard about NO-IP or DYN. I am keeping my fingers crossed that by following your tutorial I will be able to finally get to use my camera in the fashion it was intended for. Wish my luck. Thank you.

Hello, I want to thank you for helping me set up my Foscam again. I took the Foscam down for over five years now and put it away knowing that I will someday use it again. Well, I remembered very little about setting it up again and spent about 4-hours today struggling because I have forgotten about DNS. Thanks to your video, I am back on track, and of course, my DynDNS free account was gone and couldn't reinstate the account. I went to No-IP as you suggested. It sucks that audio is gone and I tried to search for the plug-in with no success. Thanks again for the detailed tutorial! - Tom

I just wanted to send you a HUGE thank you for your Foscam setup videos. I got a new computer and basically had to reset everything up from scratch and was at a TOTAL loss. (The old set up was done by an ex, and was hosted through his dyn site. I wanted my own.) I watched your first one and my cam was already set up, so set it up on the new computer. Then watched this one on how to set it up with a dyndns domain name. ($25 a year is worth is for security, I used that instead of the free no-ip.) I'm computer smart, but not techy, so figuring out port forwarding, etc., it took me about 3 hours to get this all figured out, but I DID IT! This camera is important to me, my house has been robbed before, and I'm able to keep an eye on my pets. I had an elderly dog that I would watch, and the day she passed last year, I was actually able to see from work that she was in distress and get home in 10 minutes and take her to the vet. Had I not had this camera.... I can't even imagine. So getting this set back up on my new computer means the world to me. Thank you for such perfectly clear instructions. The only thing that tripped me was after I figured out port forwarding, I didn't edit it to include the unique port number I made (defaulted to 80 like you said). Once I got that, I was able to view it from a browser, mobile AND use the IP Cam Viewer app on my android phone with the new settings saved. You are the best, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Hi. We use the FI8910W to watch the playpen and as a baby monitor. I wouldn't say it's only for 1 thing. For my friends who are expecting a child, I gifted them the FI8910W. I like the price, quality of the image, and ease of setup.

Few possibilities. Set the Foscam port back to 80. Update your port forwarding rule so that all traffic on port 80 goes to your Foscam IP. If that doesn't work, you might have to contact your ISP. This is the sticky situation a lot of my viewers reported. For ex, a viewer told me he uses AT&T. His setup looks correct to me but port forwarding wouldn't work. I asked him to contact AT&T. AT&T said they disabled port forwarding on his router & wanted him to buy a different router/modem from them.

I have recently purchased the Foscam 18910W. I read thru the manuals and the Foscam online videos I have been able to view it internally but having difficulty externally. Setup a free DDNS as well as added the port # to my external IP after setting up the Port Forwarding on my D-Link DIR-130 router connected to a basic Comcast modem (non router). I find this video the most comprehensive one and will recheck all my settings. Also reset my router to factory default as it was a surplus one with some other settings from the previous user. Thank you for putting it all in one place. Can't wait to see it work.

for the 2nd one, you can use the same host. But, you will need to create a separate port forwarding rule on the router in order to access it from outside your home. the 2nd port forwarding rule will have a different port than the first. example 1st uses port 8090 2nd will use port 8090 so it will be "hostname:8090", "hostname:8091"

Hi. You don't have to use the DDNS setting on the Netgear. You can use the one built into Foscam instead. Basically, just 1 device on your home network needs to link with your DDNS. Foscam supports both DYNDNS and NO-IP.
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 11 жыл бұрын
I've used Foscam's DDNS once back when it came with the FI9820W. At the time, it was advertised to be free for 3 years. Since I already have a DDNS that was free, I used the other one instead of Foscam's.

I would suggest first putting your internet IP address into the web browser and click go. If you're lucky, it'll take you to the login page to your router. If it does, this is a good sign. Then, put your "internetIP":"port" into the browser. The "port" would be what you created with the port forwarding rule. This is how I would suggest testing if the port forwarding works before moving forward to testing your no-ip DDNS.
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 11 жыл бұрын
Before you mentioned you have the comcast router and your netgear. If the Foscam is connected to the netgear, you'll need to create 2 port forwarding rules. One on the xfinity router to redirect to the netgear. And the second on the netgear redirecting traffic to the Foscam.
@AwkwardHamster

Android phones have a web browser. After the setup, you can put your URL and login information into the browser to access the camera. There are also apps in Google Play you can use. Then again, you'll also need to enter the same connection information in order to connect.
@AwkwardHamster

Hi, if your public IP changes often, consider using DDNS service like NO-IP. This way, you just need to memorize your no-ip Host name. Your router, or even the Foscam, can be giving your no-ip login info and it will automatically update the NO-iP host when your public IP changes.
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 11 жыл бұрын
That's a good sign. It basically means you just need to create port forwarding rules on your wireless router. Log into your router. port forwarding setup is probably located in the security or firewall section.

If the Comcast is both modem and router, then the path would be the following Internet -> Comcast -> Belkin -> Foscam I would like to suggest the following test first to see if you can even access the Foscam from the Internet. Connect the Foscam to the Comcast. Set up port forwarding on the Comcast. If it works, then connect the Foscam back to the Belkin and set up port forwarding from Comcast to Belkin, and Belkin to Foscam.

To answer your first question, yes. But, you don't need a static IP. Foscam purchased today comes with DDNS. There are also free services out there from DYNDNS and No-IP. Also, having a static IP and supporting 2 Foscams are two completely separate tasks. I say this because the most important thing setting up the port forwarding on your router. If that's set up correctly and your ISP doesn't block it, then you're good to go.

On your Verizon router, go to where you can create port forwarding rules. There's a link on the main page. Or it can be found in the firewall/security section. Create a port forwarding rule on your router to direct the internet traffic to your Foscam.

If you plan to control the movement of the Foscam, use the admin or operator ID. For my wife's iPhone, she use to fall asleep watching our son and she would hit the button to move the camera from the iPhone. So, I set up a visitor ID so she can watch our son while she falls asleep and not have to worry about her hand slipping and touching the screen and causing the Foscam to move.

It depends on the port forwarding rule you created. On your router, you'll need to create a port forwarding rule that will direct external traffic on a port you specify (can be something like 8090) and have it point to the Foscam internal IP & port.

There are software you can use to record to the computer. I've only tried vitamin d (pc & mac) and ip camera viewer from the mac app store. To view it on your iphone, you need to first open ports on your router. It will probably be in the firewall section, under port forwarding. Different routers call it different things. But the basic idea is to open ports.

If you messed up, you can always reset the Foscam by pressing and holding, for 30 sec, the reset button at the bottom with a paperclip. This should set the connection settings back to dynamic. You'll need to plug the Foscam into the router in order to connect to it after a reset.

Hi. Different router manufacturers will call it different things. But I would guess pinhole and port forward is the same thing. As long as it's a setting where you can redirect traffic on a certain port to a specific device on your local network, then that's the setting you will want to configure. Hope that helps.

As Shane mentioned, try using a port checker tool such as canyouseeme dottorg to see if the port you opened is really opened. Sometime it may say a port is open but there could still be outside factors involved. But let's just hope for the best.

Hi. Noip is directing you to your router because you haven't created port forwarding rules. In your router's settings page, you need to create these rules so that the outside world can communicate with a specific device (the Foscam) inside your local network. There are other names for port forwarding. Some call it port mapping, pinhole, etc.

Hi. I use the app called LiveCams Pro on my iPhone and iPad. The userID and password are what I created in Foscam's administrative User settings page. If it makes things easier, focus on using your internet IP. Once you get that up and running, the DDNS can then be used because it's basically an alias to your internet IP.
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 11 жыл бұрын
the starting port and ending port will be the same since you're only creating 1 port forwarding rule. If you are using a Foscam with a media port, then I recommend creating two port forwarding rules. 1 for the foscam and 1 for the foscam media port. take your internet ip and put it into your web browser. hopefull, the page that returns is your router.
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 11 жыл бұрын
I would recommend starting with port 8080. There are thousands of ports you can use. Just don't use the common ports like 80 or 21 or any port that's already used by another device or application.
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 11 жыл бұрын
First, if you were to put your internet IP into the browser, does it take you to your Foscam? If your internet IP changes often and the DDNS service you're using needs to be constantly updated, consider adding your DDNS account, like no-ip, to Foscam's DDNS Settings page. Then, it will automatically update your DDNS Host with the internet IP whenever it changes.
@AwkwardHamster
@AwkwardHamster 11 жыл бұрын
The simple answer is yes, you can store the video on your computer. The difficult answer is that there are many out there and you'll need to find one you're comfortable with. I've used vitamin d, which is free for the 1st webcam. I also own Synology, very expensive. I suggest start with the free and move towards paid ones later.

You do not have to use DYNDNS. It's purely optional. Basically, if you want to use your internet IP that will work. Some people just have a harder time memorizing their internet IP, especially if it changes from time to time. So, they can use either Foscam DNS, No-IP DNS, or DYNDNS as an alternative.

There's no difference because they both perform the same function. Your internet has 1 IP that changes from time to time. When anything on your network communicates to the outside world, it does so on the back of that 1 IP. As long as the DNS setup resides somewhere on your network, it will notify the DNS provider of your new IP when it changes. Hope that helps.

From what I know, they are two different companies. Foscam started incorporating their DDNS host names to each Foscam. There's pros and cons to this. But I'll let the user decide because it has more to do with personal preference.

It can not be any port because some ports are already in use. For example, port 21 is typically for ftp. I suggest using a port that's not in the low double digit range, like 8090.

To access the ip camera remotely, you'll need to create port forwarding rules on your wireless router. I demonstrated this around 7:00 in the video. Log into your router's admin screen. It will probably exist under firewall section. This is the more involved piece because it's hard to test if your internet provider blocks it.

FYI, I discovered after upgrading to a faster modem (provided by our ISP) that I could no longer access my camera via wifi inside our home network. According to No-Ip, the problem is probably that the modem doesn't support NAT Loopback and is a common problem. I'm certainly glad this was not a problem when I first set up my camera as it would've been difficult if I had to rely on someone outside my home network to verify my setup.

Unless both are done, you can't view it from outside your network. It doesn't matter what order you carry it out. Typically people would set up the port forwarding after giving the camera a static internal IP.

Great video. I tried setting these cameras up for a week. This video finally got me set up. I'm able to view from my android, but I'm having a hard time trying to view from another PC. Any suggestions?

You do not need a second no-ip host. Basically 1 no-ip host is used for your home. If all port forwarding is working, does that mean you can connect using your internet IP address instead of no-ip?

Hi. The record video option isn't available on Chrome. But you can use a 3rd party option like vitamin d. I made a video demonstrating it. You can find it in my Foscam video playlist.

Not that I know of. That's why I purchased the AngelCare audio monitor and just use the Foscam for video.

the internal IP would start wit 192.168.x.x or 10.10.x.x. You can use IP Camera Tool to find it or log into your router's admin page and see what IP it allocated to the Foscam. If you've added a laptop to wifi before, then there's little reason for me to think you did it wrong with the Foscam. Just make sure you're using the latest firmware from Foscam.

Hi Mary. That could mean a few things such as your router blocking it or you internet provider preventing it. Will you be able to call your internet provider and ask how you can enable port forwarding? I use Verizon Fios and they gave me the login information to my router when I first started this. Now, Verizon has the login info on a sticker at the side of my router. Also, my call with Verizon is free. Hopefully, your ISP doesn't charge you to talk to technical support.

Not sure I get what you're asking. No-IP host name is the same as your internet IP. Some people like me don't want to memorize my internet IP so I created a host name with noip. When I access my internet IP or noip host name, it takes me to my Foscam login page. I enter my Foscam userID and password to gain access.

Hi. That's is because you're using the newer WebUI firmware. I've since updated my WebUI firmware so mine no longer says Real-Time monitoring either. It's just a name. The functionality of the Foscam remains the same. Hope that helps.

If you created the port forwarding but it still doesn't work, then it could be that your ISP blocks it. A lot of my viewers have told me their ISP either blocks port forwarding or wants the customer to pay extra for it. For my network, when I put my internet IP into firefox and hit go, it takes me to my router.

The DNS host isn't as important as the port fowarding rules on your router. If you put your internet IP into the web browser, does it take you to your router? If so, then it means you need to log into your router and create the port forwarding rule.

Hi there. First off thank you? Both your set up and wireless video help me so much with setting this cam up for my new daughter. This is my first time trying to view The camera away from my home network and I can't view it off my phone or a computer. I used The no IP address if that helps. What am I doing wrong. Thanks again!

I think the issue is with your port forwarding configuration on your router. Have you set that part up yet?

Hi, The firewall that's blocking the communication is on the router. Did you create a port forwarding rule on your router?

Hi, IP that starts with 10.x.x.x are internal. Before spending too much time with the DDNS host name, first put your internet IP, 75.x.x.x, into the browser and hit go. Where does it take you?

Thanks mate, sorry i meant i get the active x option everytime i try and access through a browser, i thought it might save the option i select instead of me selecting it everytime :). As for the passcode yea i was refering to the Pro Survrilance App because when you open the app it goes straight to your live camera, i thought it may ask you to log in each time for security reasons which is why i opted to set a passcode
