The "always reach out to the company" works a lot of the time however i recently had a horrible time with one company. Fedex ran 48 hours late. Once my shrimp got here they were all dead. Took pictures and sent them to the company. They have a 7 day money back thing. This company waited till 11pm on day 6 to tell us we needed different pictures because "The pictures you took still had water meaning our customer service cant verify completely". Needless to say that was a lot of money spent on dead shrimp. Purchased from a different company and they showed up live and healthy. Just had my first babies start popping out of the tank. Currently setting up a new tank so in a month or so imma give flip a try. Anything is better than the first company.

Thank you so much for this! Even while drip-acclimating for 30 mins, the first three months of trying to introduce shrimp to my tank I’d lose them within 3 days due to molting failures and never understood what was wrong. Never thought about the temperature being an issue! I do live in a cold climate where my fish room ambient temperature will never get close to the temperature inside my tank. Is there another way to slowly warm the bag up than just leaving it out and hoping it gets close?

Your water temperature was very similar between the tank and bag. How do you acclimate if you're going to room tempersture of about 65 and tank temperature of 77? I would think the catch cup on the outside of the tank would and the slow drip would not warm the water to the tank temperature.
@FreightTrain223 жыл бұрын
Great guide except for the whole temperature thing. A lot of us have tropical aquariums where the water is significantly warmer than room temperature. So the whole leave the bag out to reach the temperature you want doesn’t work for many of us. But you also said don’t float the container in the water so how the hell would I raise the temperature then? I just bought shrimp online from flip aquatics so I am trying to learn the best way to acclimate but that seems like a pretty big thing to just not mention.

I put a 5 gallon bucket on the hey s filled 3/4 with water and a heater set to sand temp as tank . Then another bowl floating on top . Add my shrimp and the siphons line as as he says . The bowl gets warm like the tank so slowly warms up and the shrimp are getting drip acclimated at the same time . Just be sure to have a rue in the bowl with the shrimp as if it over flows it goes into the bucket . Just to be safe I add prime to the bucket water so if it overflows then the shrimp just swim in the bucket which isn’t great , but it’s the same water I use in my tanks for my neo’s.

can i float the shrimps in my aquarium to adjust the temperature slowly? Because most aquarium stores in my country always come with a normal plastic bag with oxygen inside
@tntviewer94313 жыл бұрын
Same with my country (Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹) getting certain things can be expensive 😅
@ruidadgmailcanada85082 жыл бұрын
Same in Canada. Yes you can float the bag so it slowly adjusts to the tank temperature. I now use an empty 2L container, dump the bag with shrimp in, drain some water so there’s about only 150-250ml of the original shrimp water. Then drip acclimate them in the 2L container until it’s almost full. Now you can dump it all into the tank. If you don’t have an airline valve tie a knot in airline tubing or punch the tubing with a small clamp until you get about 3 drops/second.
@claudeclawsonne45107 ай бұрын
@@ruidadgmailcanada8508 I think floating the bag is only an issue if it's one of those silky-feeling air-breathing bags. Floating one of those cuts off the shrimp's O2 source. I don't see an issue with floating a regular plastic bag or just pour them into one of those dip things and hang it on the inside water side of the aquarium instead of the outside. With a rock in it if it wants to float.

@@claudeclawsonne4510update: I’m now just netting my shrimp from 1 tank into another with 0-acclimation. Didn’t check any parameters and put 2 blue neos in with my reds. I didn’t see the 2 test blues for a few days, but no corpses. A week later there they were munching away so now I’m catching the rest of my blues and putting them together. I had a 3rd tank of yellow neos but they weren’t as hardy and died off…I think that tank went acidic from over feeding. 😢 I’m thinking the general shock of being caught, transported and dumped into new surroundings is the worst part for them. Less is more with shrimp.
@claudeclawsonne45107 ай бұрын
@@ruidadgmailcanada8508 Well it is quite a different thing moving fish or shrimp or anything else from a tank in your own home to another tank in your own home. Unless you've done something to deliberately make the tans differ from one another, creating water that's harder or softer than normal, all the tans in your home should all be the same water parameters, temperature etc. and shrimp will only need acclimatizing if the temperatures differ from one tank to another. At most you might want to float them a bit but generally I lun mine in and out of different tanks in my house no problem. But if I travel an hour from home and pick them up at a swap meet r something then I definitely do a drip for an hour or so.

It's important to read and understand the terms of "DOA" (Dead On Arrival) which your chosen distributor honors for your order because you will often be required to photograph any deceased livestock while they are still in the sealed bag/container they arrived in and may also be expected in some cases to pay for additional shipping/handling on replacement orders. This is also the first time I've seen a "breather bag" (I'm new to the hobby) so with such an opaque surface it could be key to also have access to a camera which can capture detail in good quality pictures in the event that some of your new shrimp don't make it.

Well I bought your acclimation kit. And I bought the dipping pool (same one you link to). It just doesn't work with the dipping pool hanging on the side like that. You kind of completely skip over the part where you set it up and get it hanging just right, but I'm guessing it has to be oh-so-perfect, or the water levels become too close, and suction won't occur. Whatever. I put the dipping pool on a stand next to the tank, about a foot below the tank's water level, and now it's working, sort of. Good thing I was testing it with snails, first. I'm a ways away from adding shrimp yet.

I just pop them into the aquarium and never had any problems. All these chemicals you use will just create new water parameters anyhow, just put them into your nice tank with lots of plants and watch them go about with their business. I dont even let them adjust to temperature anymore - if they are somewhat close to temperature in aquarium i just toss them in, and well. They usually are since shrimps prefer colder water and therefor have room temperature, which your bag most likely will be, if not just leave it for a while in room temperature.

Hi there from Germany, they might have died because they are from different tribes. When shrimps are in an Aquarium, they develop certain bacteria depending on the individual bacteria in this aquarium. So one tribe of Cherry shrimp for example in one Aquarium might therefore be able to tolerance bacteria A, but another tribe of blue shrimp are in a different aquarium and therefore they have a tolerance for bacteria B. If you now put shrimps from these two tribes together in one aquarium, the cherry shrimp will now be confronted with the bacteria from the blue shrimp and vise versa. Now unfortunately in the worst case, all of them will die, because their immune system does not know the bacteria from the other tribe. That is one of the reasons why you only put one tribe into the aquarium. You can however try to prevent the deaths if you want different tribes: - huge waterchange (80%) in the aquarium where they should get in before you put them in (its about lowering the germ density) - humic substances in the water (lowerinf germ density) - really slowly acclimation with the aquarium water, best over hours One note: if they die because of the bacteria from other tribes, they do not need to die on an instance - it can take some weeks. Also there can only be one tribe dieing and one survivng. In Germany ist called "Bakterielle Unverträglichkeit (BU)" or "Kreuzverkeimung" but I couldn't find the English term 😊

I'm confused why these animals can't handle a quick temperature swing. How do they handle it in the wild when it happens? Mother nature can drop temperatures fast. I've been outside on 90+ degree days when it drops to 70 suddenly and starts pouring rain. I can only imagine a stream, river, or the ocean working the same way. Streams and rivers especially.

Not every animal survives what the environment throws at them

@@jessl1934 you missed the point. If nature can throw big temperature swings. Even underwater. It's not the temperature that kills them. It's probably the large swing in water chemistry.

@@xSpaceInvader If nature can throw big temperature swings what makes you think that it wouldn't be able to throw big swings I water chemistry? How does someone turn out like you?

@@xSpaceInvader Yep. Everyone who doesn't agree with your unwavering trust of your gut instinct on matter, despite plenty of actual evidence to the contrary, must be deranged.

This question is not about acclimating but I wanted to ask you if you think that Scuds can be harmful to shrimp? I got some flame and christmas moss for my shrimp and now my aquarium is full of scuds :(

The only fish I don't see eating baby shrimp are otocinclus. I've seen tetras and danios eat them. And guppies.
@akainusdonutshop51475 жыл бұрын
August Vukosovich Yes but all you need is plants and hiding places for them to molt.

Great Video. Just an idea... maybe for people who order from you, you can possibly send a tiny packet of your ammonia remover as a precaution for new people buying shrimp who may not have those solutions? I'm planning on ordering shrimp for a shrimp tank but ive never kept shrimp.

Believe it or not, that is exactly what we are working on doing. Trying to make it easier for everyone. Right now it's just trying to get the companies to make little sample sizes. Thanks for the suggestion!
