The funny thing is that tick was developed because the scar prosthetics kept falling off unless he kept them wet, and another thing is that Heath Ledger applied his own makeup, that's why it has that very rough look to it.

When playing the joker, Heath is actually not doing too much and very subtle with his movements. He is allowing his demonic voice, presence and Makeup to do the work

I think the best Heath Ledger movie is unquestionably Brokeback Mountain.

Oh, and my favorite Heath movie is definitely The Dark Knight🖤 Man, you have no idea how much I appreciate your channel ❤️ I remember I've started watching you something like 3 or 4 years ago and thanks to it I learned the most about acting!!! Also, according to the deep fake that you showed us, I had seen it before and I have to say I totally agree with everything you said. It really helped me to FINALLY see Heath underneath the makeup, becuse I've been trying REALLY hard to imagine him, but all I could always see was Joker, not Heath. What an incredible talent he has❤️.

Yeah sorry your wrong it's not a tick. He did that because the prosthetic lips were falling off and he had to keep pushing them on my moving his tongue. It may look like a tick but it originally and technically NOT. They put it in afterwards because they realized it looked ridiculous so they incorporated the "tic". Again, if there wasn't an issue with the prosthetics, then there would never have been a reason to call it a tic or even infer. I don't know how that's so difficult for Admin to understand.

But it became part of the character, which mean it became a tick. They didn’t take it out of the editing and allowed it to stay apart of the character. We the audience did not know he was trying to keep his prosthetic lip on. So therefore it becomes his tick

@@TheActorsAcademy but if the prosthetics never came off he would of never done that. So it wouldn't of been a tick and he wouldn't of just made that up to do it. We all call it a tick cause that's what we thought it was. It was him covering up a mishap. It was actually weird to see the Joker licking his lips lick that anyways. No other joker did that. So that's why it's not really a tick

@@ltbomb7194 if an actor uses a cane in a scene, it becomes apart of who that character is. In acting we refer to this as “justifying.” Why does your character need a cane? How do you now walk with a cane. If the director gave Heather Ledger a cane for his joker, you can bet as an actor, Heath would find a way to justify it. Yes, he licked his lip to keep the prosthetic on, BUT just like the cane, he must justify it and therefore it became his “tick.” We shouldn’t compare his joker to others, since they are different actors and that wouldn’t be fair. Just like there are different Spider-Man’s and Batman’s, we must accept the nuances they bring and there characteristics, as well as ticks.

@@TheActorsAcademy yes I understand all your saying I'm an actor for many years. Stage and television. I know all the terminology and placements and what actors do. The cane thing doesn't even make sense to what Heath diid. If someone needs a cane they are crippled or a pimp. Heath only did that because his lips were falling off. If it never did he wouldn't of done that and like the other jokers he wouldn't be labeled as having a tick. Period.

@@ltbomb7194 an actors job is to adapt. Sometimes those ‘adaptations’ can form themselves into our characters. Hence forth, Heath needed to adapt for his prosthetic lip, but it ended up becoming a tick. Remember the budget of the Batman movies are multimillion dollar project ($185,000,000 dollars to be exact). To think that if Heath didn’t want to do the licking he couldn’t have figured something out with the makeup department and costume is crazy. Ultimately he chose to incorporate it into his character, hence forth creating a tick. This fact is irrefutable, unless one truly believes on a $185,000,000 million dollar budget they couldn’t make a prosthetic lip more sticky. Heath used it to aid in his character building which (even if it was by accident) became a tick for his character in the film…
