i think i got a different set of problem, sir! I am using an iphone4s. I wanted to reset my iphone to start as fresh not knowing I should know the actual apple id that the first user used. It was working pretty well until i chose to reset. Now it asks for apple id that the phone is connected to. I looked upon different videos. None of them worked. after restore factory setting, done with your procedure, but on my monitor says "it may take a few minutes to activate your iPhone" then after that "your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporary unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes etc. etc. etc" this give me headache.... my unit is iP4 w/o sim slot.. thanks

Dude go to restore on the iTunes Store if you do that it will delete password etc it might lock to iCloud and get bricked but there's a vid that shows how to bypass goodluck

u dont need an apple id in order to get out of the activation screen however u do need the carriers sim card that your iphone is locked to. Do you know what carrier your iphone is originally from? Since you dont have the sim card i suggest u borrow it from a friend then plug it into your phone until you complete the activation screen. So yes, u do need a sim card there isnt a way around it. (IF you dont know what carrier it is its most likely at&t if your in the US, if not idk)
