According to Renee Rouleau's skincare blog (read it, it's awesome) you have to leave it damp on your skin and then immediately apply a serum or cream or whatever product comes next in your routine.

ive read that one is supposed to apply their serums, etc while the toner is still damp. contrarily, ive been told (as melanie in the video says) that we should give the toner time to sink in before applying anything else. i prefer the latter becos i dont like the idea of serums or whatever mixing with the toners ingredients while its still wet and penetrating the skin. just let the toner absorb and do its job, then apply the next steps imo.

honestly ,she beats out any so called beauty or skincare blogger or youtubers, when she introduces a product, or how to use it, she REALLY informs you the how what why, she doesnt prance around like those youtubers does to show you the "glamorous" side of them putting on skincare or featuring products that they are either affiliated with, or they just feel like it's a showcase of their "personal style" rather than what the product actually does and when you use it. Also she gives such a clear explanations and at the same time try to make it easy for you to understand. I would watch her videos all day long to get actual tips and tricks on skincare.

I kind of wish she spent more time on the technique and what types of toners work for which skin concerns. She basically just used a lot of general terms.. are there different toners for normal vs. combo? Or dry? I’m currently struggling to find a toner and understand how to apply without causing blemishes.
@stephmgreen7 жыл бұрын
Also, toners don’t go on the t-zone? I didn’t see her discuss the nose-my main problem area.
@camillemurphy36197 жыл бұрын
Stephanie Green Most high end brands release toners for different types of skin. My favourite for oily to combination skin is the Clarins toning lotion with iris. They also have one for dry skin! Toner is so important, so make sure to invest in a good one rather than pay $5 for something generic. If you can't afford a high end one, witch hazel is good for oily/combination and is inexpensive.

These are all acid toners, which can be used on almost all skin types (sensitive skin types may want a gentle formulation) Acid toners are meant to exfoliate chemically and wouldn’t really compare to a toner like witch hazel etc. The ones she mentioned have lactic acid (aha’s) and salicylic acid (bha’s) as the main and sub ingredients. Typically AHAs like lactic are great for normal to dry skin as they help to moisturize along with clearing skin, minimize dark spots, even skin tone and firming skin. BHA’s like salicylic acid are great for normal to oily or in the tzone. the acid toner from glossier actually has both lactic acid (aha) and salicylic (bha) and is great for all skin types and would help with your concers. Also in my experience I went from combination to more normal to dry (in winter) from including Biologique Recherche p50 into my routine. The 1970 formula contains both aha and bha too & helped tremendously for my breakouts. The new formula without phenol also is great for unclogging pores and clearing skin and all of the other wonderful things acid toners can do!

How does toners prep the skin? I want to know the mechanism of action. This has puzzled me for ages.
@starfox16 жыл бұрын
cleansing can change the ph of the acid barrier mantle of the skin to alkaline and many toners will balance the ph by being slightly acidic. additionally, good toners contain various beneficial ingredients for the skin. you want to know the mechanism for the action; what "action" do you mean? the action of prepping the skin via toners? if so, the mechanism is pressing the toner into the skin. otherwise youll have to be more specific as to which mechanism of what action you would like to know more about.
@kanncacho586 жыл бұрын
YES, the "action of prepping the skin via toners". You already answered my question. Thank you very much.

i avoid paualschoice becos i find her mindset about skincare products and their ingredients to be militantly ignorant. she will talk shyt about hoards of products that contain a tiny amt of something she doesnt like (that realistically has extremely little chance of causing a problem) yet gives 5 stars to her own brand. in the past i have taken her advice and bought something she gave 5 stars and every time i was disappointed by her choices. i appreciate her opinion on skinscare products but she is not the end all decision maker

What’s wrong with phenol?
@roanc37096 жыл бұрын
hipnhappenin phenol and its vapours are corrosive to the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Repeated or prolonged skin contact may cause dermatitis or second and third degree burns. Inhalation of phenol vapour may cause lung edema. It can have harmful effects on the central nervous system and heart resulting in dysrhythmia, seizures and coma. Long term or repeated exposure can have harmful effects on the liver and kidneys. Phenol is absorbed through the skin relatively quickly so systemic (whole body) poisoning can occur in addition to local burns. It also may cause an increased risk of miscarriage or low birth weight in pregnant people. So not what you want out of a skincare product to be honest.
