I don’t know about you guys, but over the last few months I have been feeling pretty anxious, sad and overwhelmed by everything going on in the world. To try and deal with those feelings, I have really been turning to food as a way to cope and feel better. Right now I am finding that I’m constantly reaching for a lot of sugary foods, or just foods in general that I normally wouldn’t eat in an effort to self-soothe. Anyone else?
I know this isn’t the best tactic, so I decided to speak with registered dietician and nutritionist, Marissa Meshulam, to really talk about everything from intuitive eating, to why we turn to sugar, to our relationships with food and diet culture, along with so much more!
For those of you who have used a dietician and/or nutritionist before, what do you like about them? Did you find that they were helpful in your approach to healthy and mindful eating habits? I would love to hear from you guys about your experience so comment below!
I know for myself I have also been grazing a lot during the day but never wind up feeling fully satisfied with anything I reach for. It became a vicious cycle of going from sugary to savory to caffeine to all sorts of things, which is also why I spoke to Marissa to get me right on track!
Have you guys been feelings this way? Do you guys feel like you are craving added sugar or never feeling fully satisfied with what you’re eating? Would love for you to share what’s going on in your eating routine below!
A large portion of what Marissa does is teach her clients how to embrace mindful eating and show them how to eat to feel their best. She also shares how stress directly correlates to food and explains why we crave what we crave! I know for certain that she helped me reframe the way I feel and think about food I hope it helps you do the same!
We really are all in the same boat in terms of what is going on in the world and the lack of routine, so in my effort to try and find ways to adopt a healthier lifestyle when dealing with stress, I truly hope it helps you all as well :)

it's so key: how much mental space these thoughts take up. young women could have the cure for cancer in their back pocket and instead, they are surrounded by info that tells them to be spending all their time and mental resources thinking about weight and body changes and the scale...we do all need to undo this.

Completely agree, so many women and girls could have so much potential. Instead we are conditioned by societal standards, the media, advertising and beauty standards to focus on our appearance constantly. Which takes alot of time, energy and money when that could be spend on more important things

I almost didn’t watch the video because I thought “oh no, another food video on KZbin with crazy dieting etc”, but gosh was I pleasantly surprised! What a healthy conversation! ☺️ And it’s so awesome that you asked a nutritionist to participate to get the science straight- there is soooo much BS regarding eating on the Internet and quite frankly, we need more voices like this out there! @@colettegoh3182 drink more water is a great tip Emily saved my life with this advice I have so much energy now and vitality my colitis is all gone now my kidneys are so much better it feels like a miracle and my brain feels so positive so it's great advice and I'm so grateful for it I sleep better than ever after my PTSD I have a different life now and it's a good one thank you Emily xx

My favourite habit I've developed over quarantine has been meditating 10 minutes every evening before dinner. It's an AMAZINGLY grounding practice that allows me to arrive to my dinner with so much presence and gratitude. Psychologically I also now always look forward to meditation because it's become connected to delicious home-cooked food make with love. Thanks for the inspirational vid, Emily! Oh My God Emily, You look so so beautiful. You are glowing. Being someone who constantly deals with dull, acne scars skin, Your skin is a dream and this quarantine hasn't made it any easy. I have recently made a HUGE shift to my diet and really trying every day. I spent so much money and energy on skin care products that simply did not do anything. It was exhausting to not see desired results after trying so hard. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a video on what you have been eating/drinking lately and also include a skin care routine displaying your top favorite skin care products. Some of us would really appreciate it, I am confident I am speaking for many right now. Thank You, God Bless You

Dear Mony, imho, you should consult a doctor and clarify your hormones, hemoglobin. I was suffering with the same things and no diets\ cosmetologists\ scin care routines could help... Only seeing a specialist cleared the air, the endocrinologist , in my case. Wish you all the best ! Take care!

She used a retinoid prescribed by her dermatologist. This is THE number 1 reason her skin is glowing and even in texture. Stop wasting money on skin care over the counter that doesn’t work. See a dermatologist, use a simple cleanser and a simple moisturiser and always always use a SPF. These steps are all you need. But I can promise you that Emily using a retinoid is the most important step in her skincare

This makes sense! I´m always eating Halo Top and many different substitutes and I need a lot to make me fill satisfied. I would love another video with more topics like this. Nutrition and fitness but with experts. Like, is it better to do cardio or weight training? What about carbs? How to have a healthy diet without following a specific diet such as keto or paleo or plant-based. Thank you Emily!

I love this so much! I have been seeing so many diet trends, especially during the beginning of quarantine, that really messed with my relationship with my body and with food. I thought I was being healthy by subscribing to these diet trends, but one day I had a 3 day long stomachache and was bloated the entire time. That’s when I realized that even though what I was eating and doing was deemed “healthy” by society, my body was rejecting it. That happened a few weeks ago, and ever since then, I’ve been trying to really listen to my body. It’s been both a learning and an unlearning process. Thank you for having this important conversation and for sharing it with us all!

Loved this video! Would enjoy a similar video where you talk to an expert about the importance of weight training (many women just do cardio) and how it affects female bodies positively as we get older (and also at any age)!

This video is amazing and I really like her approach. Thank you Emily for doing it, if you do more videos about this topic I think is extremely helpful for a lot of people. Food is life and trying to follow the "rules" for "good" or "bad" food is exhausting. I noticed how it did the complete opposite to me that my attention actually went far away from truthly giving the attention and loving care to my body. Thank you both

PLEASE share more like this!! I watch your videos as motivation because I want to model and be an actress and I want to see what models do in a day, etc. But it’s very easy to watch you and think you are so perfect and put together, and you only eat healthy and you do everything right, so hearing that you also struggle with similar things that I do is soo refreshing and relieving. Even when you did the closet clean out, so relatable! Thank you 🙌🏽

as a 19-year-old who struggled with 2 eating disorders for a little over 2 years (I've really worked on myself and I'm in a really good headspace currently btw:) this was really informational and helpful to watch. thank you so much for this, I look up to you tremendously and I want you to know you are helping lots of young girls (and women/men) with this

Very interesting conversation. I liked the suggestion to think twice about your emotions and if you generally turn to food when you feel in a certain way, you could try to assotiate that emotion to a different action
