I believe in yooouuu!!! Take it one step at a time. The first step can just be explaining to the teachers that you're having a really tough time and DO care but just that it's hard. Focus on new stuff for now to not fall further behind and try not to feel too guilty about what's already done or not done. It's irrelevant now. If you can't and you feel like you're still going to fail, then acknowledge like "hey, this semester isn't for me. BUT I can still use it as practice to get better at essential skills for next time, and I can still learn at least a bit because anything is better than nothing and since I'll need this info next semester anyways, let's focus on next semester". I struggle with deadlines and if something's not fully complete I legit can't turn it in and end up failing assignments Ive put hooooouuuurrrsssss and hours into because I just don't turn it in and get a zero. I started emailing my teachers my situation and explaining that I really respect all that they do and thanking them for everything they've done so far and then explaining that sometimes it's really really hard to finish given my surroundings and personal stuff etc but I'm learning to turn things in even if they're not done and I'm sorry to disrespect you blah by not finishing but is that okay???? Kinda thing cx and it's helped a looootttt TT TT, most teachers legit don't care as long as you explain you're trying and they'll give partial points and then I can stop feeling guilty cuz I know they know I care.... Idk if all this makes sense lol but yeaaaahhhh cx that heeelllppps lol it's hard to communicate with teachers at first but once you get used to it and over the mindblock by telling yourself it's like talking to a friend and analyzing that literally the worst possible outcome is still not worse than your current situation, it becomes easier!

Tip from someone with severe adhd. Eat food before you take your meds, then take your meds. Dont have food near you even if it « helps » we are prone to have issues with mindless eating so find something else to fidget with instead. Start by making a list by subject or catagory. Cut them into pieces so its just each subject by itself, by this time you should feel your meds kicking in. The chunked subjects is to help your brain digest things into smaller steps so you feel less overwhelmed and also make doing an assignment and turning it in two different things to check off so you dont forget to turn it in.

29 year old man with ADHD that decided to go back to college. I'm literally doing half of the things you listed naturally, like studying between 3-11pm, using a spotlight lamp that's clipped to my desk, isolating my hearing, etc. Crazy. I'll have to try some of the other tips. Starting assignments ASAP is something I've avoided doing but I'll see if I can get myself to do it. Thanks. p.s. was actually guilting myself about not being able to focus until later in the day, but yeah, however I'm wired, I just have to work with it.

@MRozeYT

You don't have to feel guilty for this, its just how your mind works sometimes. The best thing I would say you can do for this, is to try your best to have everything you need around you, and have everything outside of your work done so you aren't distracted by it while you are doing your work. Another thing that might help you is learning to be more patient with yourself. It takes some practice, but once you are able to be patient with yourself, you can really pinpoint when and why you need a break. Then you can make a studying schedule for yourself and include timed breaks when you need them so you don't get overwhelmed. I hope that answers your question! I'm not a professional on any of this, I just do what I can to help!

Summary 1) try some cause of this (make sure you know a good caffeine intake) (it might not work for everyone) (it can give your brain a little head start) (it’s not for you to wake up but more to tell your brain to focus) (everything has different caffeine levels (make sure you pick what you like ex: coffee, tea, etc) *caffeine might help with add/adhd, links to articles in description* Tip: try drinking water before coffee to help with “the crash” after coffee 2) eliminated all outside distractions (Ex: making sure your phone is on silent, trying to work in complete silence or music if that works better for you, also trying to work in a place alone so that nobody or their actions distract you, self movements might help like tapping, fidget toys, 3) create an environment place designated place just for learning and to increase productivity (away from the rest of your house, try silence, organize it so that you wanna go and learn, make it however you want it) make sure you keep your area clean and organized at all times Tip: try seeing if different smells help you while you’re studying... try candles, essential oils, perfumes, etc 4) make sure basic needs are completed before learning ( ate already, brushed your teeth, maybe have some water or snacks, take your meds, have some coffee, etc) Tip: make sure you have everything before you start so that you don’t get distracted or have to get up in the middle of studying and get carried away 5) try not to set strict deadlines for yourself if you can (so you can try to worry more about the assignment than the time it’s due) (in some cases you don’t have control but at least try talking to your teacher) (try to get things in advance) Tip: if you can’t get it in advance, try doing the assignments as soon as they come out so you focus more on the assignment and not the deadline and then you can do things more thoroughly and correctly 6) try keeping a planner (you can have whatever you want in it and it might help if you do it how you like) (maybe if you put time and effort into it, you’ll want to use it more often) (bullet journals are completely customizable) *video for bullet journals and planners in the description* Tip: some planners are not the way you want them to be and you can’t do anything so try making your own, the way you like it and want it to be so you can keep track of assignments, dates, what’s coming up etc better 7) try working a little later in the day (ages 15-24 are wired to stay up late and wake up late so our brains are more aware later in the day) (could be from 3pm-11pm or whenever you feel better) 8) try working in a darker room with only light on your work (you might not get distracted if you only has light on your work and what you’re doing) (brain might understand that that’s what’s lit up so that’s what you need to focus on) 9) be patient with yourself (you might get frustrated because you just can not concentrate but once you figure out a system for you, it will become easier over time) (try bettering your focus and the skills that help you do that) (so just because one thing doesn’t work doesn’t mean nothing will, there are many ways and it’s a bunch of trial and error) (being able to focus is a very hard skill to be good at, the more you practice it, the better you will be over time)

I play D&D, and I'm a bit of a dice goblin. A having a set of dice nearby to play with is a noisy, but effective, fidget. If you dont have to worry about bothering people, I highly recommend it. The textures of the different dice are nice, the sound is satisfying, and it's something that is just mindless.

Thanks for the tips 🤗 I have ADD and this is what has helped me a lot: -A weekly agenda, I can see what needs to be done throughout the week and how much time I got. - I have a cork bord and also put what I write in the agenda bc it's just there and I don't forget as much. I divide the board with all my subjects and I highlight the dates. (This might work for you if you don't like agendas). - Both in the agenda and the board I put a □ square on the things I have to do so when I finish them I put giant ✔✔✔ to have a little bit of a reward moment 😂😂😂 - I have a desk and for me this my school/focus place, I have prohibited myself to make it my vanity or put mirrors or my makeup or any not school thing there 😂. I do have some inspirational things and pictures but I put them high on shelves so I don't see them while I sit and study. The only thing I have on sight is my high school diploma so I can remind myself that I did that and I'm capable. - I use headphones so I dont get very distracted with sounds outside my window.

Not gonna lie, I never thought of focus as a skill you could improve over time. I just thought I'd always be bad at it haha. Some extra tips that I use personally (not diagnosed but have the referral I'm saving up for): Lofi music (without lyrics) is great for people who find classic music boring. I use it soooo often, not just for focus but also for sleep because it helps calm the brain chatter and is super calming. I also personally use deadlines as a way to force myself to focus if I really cannot get into the mode, and set mini deadlines that I use to hold myself accountable. It sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. I also love study with me videos or going to study at public spaces like libraries. It's like a form of white noise for me hearing others being productive or idly chatting, and I use the people in the videos as a body double. I also use pomodoro timers to keep myself studying until I am allowed a break. :) Having a do not disturb feature on technology, using the Forest study app and breaking down study tasks into shorter, more manageable to-do lists also helped a lot. :) These tips and tricks you presented are so good! I'm going to try and use them myself to get a bit better focused. :)

So right now I’m 20 and have ADD. I’m not diagnosed with it and don’t know if I want to be. I started taking small doses of Rilatine in elementary school to help me “focus” in class. At the time I didn’t realize nor did I question why I took meds until the age of 17-18 when I had an internship in a hospital. I usually did everything right but kept forgetting small or multiple things and had to ask it over and over again. Until a certain moment the head nurse came up to me and asked (which actually hurt) if I had DCD or Dyslexia which is completely insane coming from a head nurse(bc memory ≠ coordination nor read and word ability) but whatever. When I was done for the day I asked my dad why I couldn’t remember things for over 5 min, when it just has been told or when I read a book and couldn’t or hardly remember wth I read from 1 freaking page… It was rlly frustrating bc I felt different ‘not normal’ and he told me that I had ADD but didn’t want to bother me with the thought and to use it as an excuse (which I don’t even dare to speak of towards other people). So now I’m in university and take Rilatine 30 mg daily to keep me: motivated, focused, productive and more talkative and it helps. The down side to it is that it takes my whole appetite away for lunch and sometimes diner. So I forget to eat and drink often. As I searched about tips and tricks I could use I stumbled on this video: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/paa9o42XatV_js0 which basically explaines it perfectly how and what it is like to have ADD/ADHD. So whenever people ask me what the problem is, I just direct them to the video. And about this video the tips are very good. The only thing I still have a problem with is starting or how to get started even when everything is planned out.

I also have trouble with focusing and deadlines and I forget VERY easily. I used to do bullet journalling.. I justs topped cuz I lost motivation so instead now I just have a big pice of paper on the wall and paste a bunch of random sticky notes with To Dos and hw 'neatly' and made it look so cute so I wont get overwhelmed and not do it :)

Also using a paper to cover parts of your worksheet or book as you go helps cx and I watch recorded videos at 1.5 to 2x speed so that I don't have as much time between topics and I can't get lost tooooo deep in lala land before the next point comes. If teachers start talking about something I feel like I already know, I space out until the next topic normally but like it's gotten to the point now I'll space out WAAAYYYY beyond that and miss a bunch of stuff I DONT know. So watching it faster helps. And also, I get demotivated and decide "oh I'll watch it later" if I lose my place in the video so I've learned to pause it if it's an important thought, write it down or think it out, and then play the video with full attention again instead of just having to rewind or rewatch over and over again and daze off even MORE each time since already knowing the topic is a trigger to get more easily distracted cx might not work for everyone, but really reeeaaaallly helps me! Good luck every body ♥️♥️

Ty so much for sharing your tips with us. A really like de aesthetic of the video. The candle in the begining gave me a idea and you said the idea I had later in the video, which makes me very happy. Your tips are definitely going to my focus101. I never had major troubles in school and college. But know that I'm in college and need more time studying by myself. I feel that I'm not reaching the level I can reach, I feel that everything is passing by and I'm just overwhelmed?? like there is 40 yt tabs open and I'm trying to focus in one but I cant and aaaaaa. I feel dumb because I can't read and get involved (like I were in school) to the subjects. I read over and over the paragraph and it's like I read nothing. It's like everything it's "fluctuating" around my head but never gets inside of my head. It's really frustrating. I always felt somehow emotionally connected to the subjects in school, but now, it's all faster than my brain can process. Piles and piles of information and I can't help myself read one line of a book without feeling that I'm dumb. But now I'm doing a focus101 and trying to know how my brains work, so I can work with, not againt my brain
@MRozeYT
@MRozeYT 3 жыл бұрын
That's exactly how I used to feel in school too and you are so right about it being frustrating. I know it may be overwhelming at times, but you are not alone, there are so many people who also feel that way. Reading was one of my weaknesses for sure but I found audiobooks to be super helpful for assigned readings! I am very excited that you are working with rather than against your brain. That is gonna make such a difference and I can't wait for your success! Good luck on your focus101!!

My legs just move so much when I'm trying to focus they just never stop moving until my friends get real annoyed bcz the whole desk starts to move slightly and they're like stop it and I'm mostly unaware that in basically doing so I always tell them it's hard to stop it and keep it stopped but again I only think I have ADHD .... I can't stop talking and can't literally focus on one thing do even five mins.. I zone out so differently to others that I get so lost in it.... And I am the messiest in every area of my life.... And tho I was smart enough to get straight As till grade 11... I'm recently crashing really hard even in my interest subjects where I'm straight off failing and just don't do any effort anymore and being so lazy about things...and I just can't read crammed text and understand It the first time reading I always have to read again and again and solving questions in class pressure... Don't even ask... I feel like I'm so smart but I can't prove it anymore and it's heartbreaking.... So I think I might have adhd

I'm so sorry that you are struggling with this. The best advice I can give is to try changing your learning style. There are so many different ways our minds are able to learn and absorb information, so try switching up how you take notes or how you study. I have issues with reading too and the way that I get through long paragraphs is by covering up the things I haven't read yet so that my brain only has to focus on the line that I'm reading. Audiobooks help me absorb what I'm reading faster too! Also taking small notes on whatever I'm learning helps me keep track of where I'm at and what's going on. If you are able to, try bringing this up with your teachers and see if they can offer you any type of extra help to make learning a better experience for you! I really hope that this helps!

@@MRozeYT I've tried changing my learning style... Now I try to break down info in chunks as much as I can... I make summaries and make summaries out of summaries until I end up with flash cards with more diagrams than words and the whole topic turned into my words and how I am able to understand it which is helping to improve my grade... Today the marks were shared I finally passed all the mocks/finals before the final exam and I'm so happy it's working ... thankyou for sharing your tips I'm basically applying some of these already and you gave me some motivation with those aesthetics ... Now I'm finally getting back on track with fresh perspective and am able to break the vicious cycle of self loathing and depression that I had from the confusion of not understanding what's wrong with me and my brain

Why I cry at the last point when you say to patients with yourself 🥺 back then I always so stress out and hate myself whenever I got distracted... And study been hard... And now I'm on study leave because I have anxiety disorders and mild depression... And I just got diagnosed with ADHD.... Getting the diagnosis give me both relief and scared feelings.... I'm relieved that finally I understand why I am so different from others, and why it is so so hard for me to focus... But at se time I'm scared because I'm getting into college in about 3 months from now, n I don't know what to do because it would be online class😔 I'm afraid I'm gonna worn out again this time

I'm so sorry that you are struggling with those things, but I am glad that getting a diagnosis helped give you answers. Hopefully the more you learn about yourself and the way you learn with ADHD, the better you are going to be able to manage your schoolwork. Also making sure that you're really taking care of yourself while you're in college will help to prevent burnout and will hopefully help with anxiety and depression management as well. Hi Reign! I'm so sorry you are having trouble focusing on school. Not having a place to be quiet must be really frustrating and I'm really sorry you have to struggle with that. Something that might help is buying or asking some friends and family to help raise money to help you buy a good pair of noise canceling headphones. They do a really good job of blocking noise when listening to music, as well as giving you a quiet work environment to hopefully give you a better chance at focusing! Also once it's safe, I find that libraries are a really relaxing place to study as well!

Do fun things tooooo if you need a break, makes it easier! And watch motivation videos or cool fun facts about what you're studying before continuing! Like I'm a dietetics major and sometimes I'll just watch cool people skateboard and go attempt tricks and then come back to studying if I get too overwhelmed or bored and need a dopamine fix but sometimes I'm just COMPLEEETEEEELY tired of my entire major and school in general so I'll watch a video on like cool recipes or the power of nutrition in preventing or curing disease or even socioeconomic stuff going on in food policy and stuff that inspires me cuz my goal is to help people and if I see how much like food deserts are affecting different people then I'm motivated to keep going do I can help some day! Maybe even volunteer doing something fun related to your major if you can (for instance, tutoring kids in your area of expertise or making a KZbin vid on it since we're in a pandemic) or think about volunteer opportunities in the future you might be excited about! Sometimes you just gotta soul search too or cut stress like sometimes I find myself it is 100% allowed to just drop ally classes or drop school and go a different route so I think about that, take a break, and research different paths before realizing like nah I've come this far and this IS what I wanna do and can finish :)

That completely makes sense! It could be more about motivation than self discipline since it's only natural that you aren't as interested in your work as you are your passions. The only thing I can suggest is to try making your work into a game or putting a rewards system into place for yourself to make your work seem more enjoyable!

I feel like id be somewhat productive if I lived alone or in a quiter and nicer space, im 14 and live in a flat with my parents and little sister. ITS HORRIBLE (for studying). I legit cant concentrate because my parents and sister keep barging into the room without a care in the world like im not even studying or anything. The room is a mess, with clothes literally on shelves because my mom has nowhere else to put the many clothes than in my room and its such an ugly enviroment in my room I jusy instantly lose my motivation to do literally anything productive. Also I wanna learn in my room but I dont want anyone to see me because if they see me and think "oh he's studying again, looks like itll be all fine from here" because i might end up not commiting to it because commitment was never really my strong suit, and theyll be dissapointed and quite frankly, that's a nightmare.
@MRozeYT
@MRozeYT 3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry that you are not in your best environment to learn in, that must be really difficulty to have to focus in a space that doesn't quite feel like yours. Have you tried going to a library to study? Some of them have study rooms you can request to use so that no one can see you or bother you while you are getting your work done. Maybe see if you can invest in or raise money for a pair of noise blocking headphones to help you study better at home. As for making your room feel a little bit better, see if there is any way to reserve a corner of your room just for studying. That might make it feel like you have a bit more control over your environment (even if it is just a small corner). I really hope this helps!!
