@curtisskingtv Can u please do a exposé on drill rap and how gatekeepers are pushing that to our children to unalive each other. WE MUST ADDRESS THIS CANCER IN THE CULTURE THAT WE NEED TO CANCEL AS WELL! ITS BEING MARKETED AND GATEKEPT CALLING IT HIP HOP. WE MUST SHUT DRILL DOWN ASAP. Sorry, I'm just batsh&t passionate about this “genre” and the HIP HOP COMMUNITY NEEDS TO ADRESS THIS ON ALL PLATFORMS AND ALL LEVELS BEFORE WE SEE MORE KIDS LITERALLY DANCING ON GRAVES!! 🙏🏽🫡💯💪🏽

I'm so proud of and grateful for the way you hold discourse around tough topics, Curtiss! (Not that you need my approval 😅) These convos have to happen! TL;DR - Ish gotta change! ==== Hip hop's *original* mission statement was to inspire, motivate and educate. It was, and STILL is, intended to be a platform of resistance against social injustices, poverty, and marginalization. HEAVY on the social injustices. Somewhere along the capitalistic way, only certain messages got budgeted and pushed. 50 years in, multiple generations have become conditioned to predominantly want to stunt, fight, sell cat, flex on exs and get unnecessarily high - because that is what gets negatively rewarded. Now that we are back to the creator economy, and can be DIYers, we can cut out the toxic-industry-middle-man and get back to the ORIGINAL mission statement. In order to do that, some very upsetting things have to happen 1. Fakers and Moochers Gotta Go - We HAVE to reprioritize authenticity in hip hop. Actually rep where YOU'RE from. People enjoy being tourists to hip hop. People enjoy twisting the message of hip hop. People enjoy profiting off of hip hop and getting cookout passes - that needs to STOP while we clean house. Lock the doors down while we do an internal system check, defrag and F5 this thing. 2. Ousting/Diminishing toxic messages - Yes, we have free speech to consider, but we no longer can cosign using our voices and monetarily supporting artists who are causing harm to our people. EVEN if that means less Drill, less GunBars, less Twerk, less ParkingLotPimping, less Lean/Fen, less PillPoppin, less FreakyAhhMusic. Not saying those sounds *can't* or *shouldn't* exist, but that cant be 80 - 90% of what gets pushed. Not saying everyone has to become 'holier than thou' but we NEED to uplift artists with meaningful, edifying and positive messages to pour onto each other and the generations coming up under us. We can no longer underestimate the potency of our influence. 3. Promotion of Intelligence - I was actually thinking about 'Dumb It Down' from Lupe Fiasco’s 'The Cool' the other day. There has been SUCH a strong push for anti-intellectualism in hip hop that we MAY need to over correct for a little while. 4. FUBU - Vocally and visually edifying and celebrating our image NEEDS to be prioritized. We need to start undoing the damage caused by colorism and unhealthy beauty standards. No more edifying or featuring BBL knees, BBL abs or and other things people hop on a table and lose life and dignity for. Looking forward to a more positive future!

Excellent conversation, as per usual. Really loved that y'all brought up the gatekeeping in country music as a contrast to highlight the hypocrisy of it all.

Monie killin' it. "Why Post Malone getting a few Nominations in his first year with Country, but Beyonce can't get any?" She destroyed them with that point. And we can be too welcoming. What we get mad at is the use of Hip hop when it's convenient and then darting out when you find a more lucrative genre. Just like Curtis said, we can't take it on or off whenever. It’s runs through our blood.

But the difference with Pink is that she got signed to LAFace, and it was the LABEL'S decision to write Pink an RnB Album, not Pink herself. Once Pink had leverage, she professed she had no creative control whatsoever, and that's when she found her own writers and producers. She was very upfront that the first album was her fakin' da funk.

The only way to gatekeep is to not listen lol. Ebro was right, any decline you see in hip hop is our fault. Listen to what you want more of, and less of west you don’t want. It’s that simple.

And people call me racist when I said I'm skeptical and selective about Rap or Hip-Hop adjacent songs/albums made by non-Black artists and/or those outside the US. I only listen to the authentic ones.

Big fan brother. Love Monie. I just wanted to say the Million Dollar Baby has a Curris Mayfield / Dungeon Family feel.in terms of the music and production. The first time ai heard it sounded like someone copying the Dungeon Family sound. What are your thoughts?

I fully understand concerning the polish protecting their country and culture. But you're talking about trying to gate keep a culture that was created inside of a country and culture that has been picked apart and stolen, while we ourselves have sold out (not me. F 'em).

It's the year of truth and he couldn't help but tell us the truth. Good riddance. We need to give our own their flowers any damn way. There's artists out the that make "Million Dollar Baby" tracks all the time and we don't ensure that their songs become as big of a hit. I saw someone mention Brent Faiyaz and he's just one I can think of right now that has that same sound. And sings better!
