Hot take: For Magic Cylinder, you're kinda praying your opponent is stupid enough to attack into it, I know this because once in locals I was using PK against Suship, Nibiru'ed the whole board in end phase, went for my OTK line with Arc Rebellion only to slam head first into a 11k Magic Cylinders
@overlystrategic Жыл бұрын
Imo battle traps are actually stronger than they've ever been, due to how homogenous decks are nowadays. You are not going to ever expect a random mirror force in modern yu-gi-oh, and you will still absolutely lose to it lol
@BatmannotBruceWayne1 Жыл бұрын
@@overlystrategic disagree, battle traps were once metadefining staples, whereas now, while they can and do win some games, they aren’t played by most people for a reason, and that is consistency. It’s true the mat the strongest magic cylinder is one you don’t expect, but when the game revolves around clearing the side of the field, battlettaps never get the chance to activate.

@@BatmannotBruceWayne1 people will always cope about this huge blowouts as if they were something like Evenly or Nib, when in reality even those cards can't make a game defining impact For something like a magic cylinder to be game defining you have to be at a really bad position in LP or have over committed without thinking about any kind of recursion or long term game plan, and even then the impact it grants is as minimal as a Jelly Canon.

*Looks at all of my decks which have at least one Magic Cylinder because for some reason no one sees it coming* YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE COPPERS
@baileydombroskie3046 Жыл бұрын
This is just my opinion but from my experience in yugioh I have found most decks kinda follow some general guidelines that work. Some decks vary and some ignore some of my guidelines too. But for any1 having a hard time here r my general deck building guidelines: In a 40 card deck: 6-12 starters 6-15 extenders (max double the # of starters) No more then 24 combo pcs 6-15 board breakers and/or handtraps No more then 6 main deck boss monsters No more then 18 traps Starters r only cards that u want to start with or cards that’s soul purpose is to get ur actual starter if u don’t already have it in ur hand. These r commonly ur normal summons and spells that search a card which may be ur normal summon if u don’t have it. These starters r the only reason u can get ur game plan to work, without them u r not doing shit. Extenders r cards that don’t do anything on there own and r not part of ur combo but do add power to ur combo in some fashion. These can be cards such as massive attack boosting cards for ur hardcore going 2nd deck. They can be cards such as monster reborn which do nothing unless ur already going off. Extenders typically only work when u happen to draw them and happen to be nice to have. If u r intending to or generally r searching it or something with the full intention of using it to further ur combo then it is not an extender, it is a combo pc. Combo pcs r cards that r useless to u unless u r able to combo off. They require u to already have ur starter. These cards r played for the explicit intent on being part of some combo that then achieves ur win condition. Going 1st decks typically never play boardbreakers but often do play handtraps for additional interaction. On the other hand going 2nd decks play a combination of the 2. And going 2nd decks tend to play more of these cards then going 1st decks bcuz they rely on them far more. It’s most common to see going 1st decks to play around 9 of them while 12+ is more common for going 2nd decks. Having ur boss monster be in ur main deck is the most awkward and difficult thing to be dealing with. U do not want to have too many as they will often clog up ur hand when u want starters and extenders. That doesn’t mean u don’t want main deck boss monsters, it just means u want to focus on just a few at most so that u can more reliably summon them. Even trap decks need monsters and spells to win the game. No trap deck is going to win with just traps unless the opp cooperates in the most retarded way. Also as a last note. There is lots of cards that fall into multiple of the categories I listed above. So u need to learn wat roles each of the cards plays and how they can work for u to know which kind of card it is. It is not uncommon to have a deck play multiple starters and whichever 1 is drawn becomes THE starter while the others become extenders or combo pcs. And in those decks there starters double as something else too. Hopefully this helps any1 who is still learning to deck build and can help them build a deck that is at the very least competent so they can then get better from there.

Great videos! One thing to add about deck-building is different type of Decks or Archetypes require different method of deck-building. For example, Sky Striker requires an abundance of Spell Cards to make the deck works around. Some decks like Paleozoic or Traptrix prefer more Trap Cards. Even decks like Superheavy Samurai restricts you to use only monsters. It really depends on what kind of deck you want to use. Love to see a Rush Duel version of deck-building of yours. It might help more people to build various decks for Rush duel.

I often add cards that don't help the deck that much when making decks for fun because they either fit the theme or I just really like the card but I wouldn't do that if I actually wanted the deck to be good. The thing is that I like to make decks using anime/manga cards and the decks get repetitive when trying to make good decks and are often not that fun to play. You can only play Z-One + De-Spell into indestructible Ivy Bind Castle along with a ridiculously generic draw and search engine so many times before it stops being fun. And those decks aren't fun to play against either. If people thought Mystic Mine + Field Barrier was toxic, wait until they see a version of that with no weakness, can be accidentally triggered by the opponent, and negates every card they control while also doing burn damage during each of their turns. The only real out to Ivy Bind Castle is Galaxy Cyclone's GY effect and Z-One makes that not work anymore. And even if they somehow banish all your copies of Ivy Bind Castle before you use it, you can just play any other Spell/Trap from your hand, Deck, or GY instead and make it immune to destruction effects.

I might be able to fill this in. A deck I use is Machina/Symphonic Warrior, and I think I can use this as an example of all three to help paint a picture. Machina are Machine type monsters that are either EARTH or DARK attribute where their goal is grave setup and some self destruction to build up the board. Symphonic Warrior is a WIND Machine archetype which came in two particular waves. The first group were effect monsters that had an effect to change something about themselves, things like type, attribute, level and effect, they also had a grave effect to banish themselves to copy their unique effect and apply it to a card on board. The second wave overtook the first wave by being a Pendulum wave where they were less grave focused and offered a lot more board spam. As the video listed, there are three key concepts you want for your deck: 1. Starters-searches cards to play 2. Extenders-continues searches and resource generation 3. Win Condition-what your deck does to end the game Starters are the pretty easy to explain, they're the origin of your deck's game plan. They are used to find the Extenders and Win Conditions. In the case of Machina/Symphonic Warrior (I'll shorten this to M/SW), that would be Machina Gearframe, Machina Redeployment, Symphonic Warrior Guitaar, and Symphonic Warrior DJJ. These Starters have an effect that lets me look through my deck for a new card to either add to my hand or play. For combos, Gearframe and Redeployment can search out at least Machina Unclaspare, while Symphonic Warrior Guitaar typically summons SW DJJ who also summons another SW from a deck when he himself is summoned. Extenders are cards that continue the flow of play for your deck, they themselves can't start a combo and need some setup, but they "Extend" it. Examples of this is Machina Unclaspare, Symphonic Warrior Synthess, Generalprobe, and Gear Gigant X. M Unclaspare is best utilized when it's added to your hand by a search effect like M Gearframe and he furthers play by sending a Machina from your deck to your graveyard. SW Synthess has a flip effect to search for another SW from the deck and it can banish itself from the graveyard to summon a different SW from the Banished Zone. Generalprobe is a Continuous Spell that adds Symph counters when you activate Symphonic Warrior card effects and can remove 3 counters to search for a SW, it also adds the Field Spell, Symph Amplifire, if you summon a SW monster. Gear Gigant X is a Rank 4, needing two level 4 Machine type monsters to summon. You can detach a material from him once per turn to add a level 4 or lower Machine type monster from your deck or graveyard to your hand. Gear Gigant X is important as he can bridge the gap between the two archetypes. So if your turn started with M Gearframe searching M Unclaspare who summoned itself, you can summon Gigant X using the two Machina cards and use his detach effect to search out Guitaar and start a new combo, gathering more resources for your win condition. Win Conditions are a little arbitrary. Most people will initially think about win conditions like reducing the opponent's life to 0 or milling the opponent out. However, a better way to think about it is, how do you do either of those things with your cards? It's more like how do you get your opponent into checkmate like in chess, you have to outsmart your opponent and exhaust their plays to the point where you can win. Runick will generally work towards wearing the opponent down with the simple mill and utility effects while replenishing their hand size with Runick Fountain and they'll protect themselves with floodgate effects like Gozen Match or Toll. By that logic, their win condition isn't to deck the opponent out, it's to protect their floodgates for as long as possible to draw the game out and let their mill effects wear out the opponent. With this in mind, Machina/Symphonic Warrior's goal is to exhaust the opponent of their resources and to beat them down. Symphonic Warriors can generate a lot of resources by searching and relocating their cards around the field, graveyard, banish, and face-up Extra Deck. This prompts the opponent to offer some form of response, because by the end of this line of combos I will have a killer board. Symphonic Warrior also has Symph Amplifire, the Field Spell I mentioned earlier with Generalprobe, which gains Symph counters when SW activate their effects and SW gain 100 atk per counter on the Field Spell, and you can remove counters to either burn the opponent or banish cards in the opponent's play or graveyard equal to the number of SW cards in play. So playing the Symphonic Warrior card effects while Symph Amplifire and Generalprobe are out will generate lots of counters with which you can use to either wipe the opponent's board, burn them, or you can beef up your SWs and beat your opponent's monsters. If the opponent uses key disruption, I can switch to the Machina line of monsters who are significantly beefier. Machina Citadel has a pseudo Raigeki effect and a 3k atk body, and Machina Ruinforce is a 4600 atk monster who has a battle phase omninegate which also halves both players life points. If they manage to survive with 2000 or less, I can summon Super Dreadnaught Railcannon Gustav Max to detach and burn for 2000. Sorry for the lengthy post, I wanted to make things clear. To summarize. Starters are the first card in a series that sets up a line of play towards the win condition. Extenders are cards that continue the line of play and requires some condition to be met to use their effects. Win Condition are cards or game strategies to checkmate the opponent. Edit: oh, there's one other category that was left out, Disruption. These are your Hand Traps, Kaiju, Board Wipes. They either interrupt the opponent's game play or they remove the opponent's board. Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring is immensely effective against Branded Fusion, denying its ability to access the Main Deck for cards to use for a fusion summon. Lightning Storm is effective for opponents that either put a lot of Spells and Traps or summoned Attack Position monsters, forcing the opponent to use their negate effects early (thus giving you more room to play your cards) or risk losing a significant portion of their cards to just one. Kaijus are monsters you summon to your opponent's board by tributing their monsters, effectively leaving them with a non-effect monster that you can destroy later. These are helpful for cards that are either immensely difficult to defeat monsters or monsters with negate effects that your deck can't quite overcome.
