A BYD plant being in India explains a lot about the pricing of Nothing Phone 1 in India. The Phone 1 initially launched at around 40,000 INR (~500 usd) but in the suddenly the prices fell to 30,000. This was probably when they started manufacturing the phones sold in India in Chennai.

I have a nothing phone and I have been using it every day for a year or so. The input responsiveness is laggy sometimes and the lockscreen glitches and hangs sometimes. These things might be forgivable if it weren't for a serious flaw with the camera. Apparently the phone has a 12mp and a 50mp mode. You take the same picture with each mode in bright daylight, zoom in, and there is literally no difference between the two images. Maybe this is one of the outsourcing companies cutting corners? Anyway, I won't be buying another nothing phone.

For the Nothing 3's design, the developers should avoid making a cumbersome device. The Nothing Phone 1 is an example of why you shouldn't do thick squares on a large phone. It makes it hard to use the device. And why they shouldn't tamper with what was already working (like the control centre modification on the Nothing OS). Which is just unecessary labor. Yes, they do add individuality and a premium feel to the device, but doing it that way won't do any good. With the Nothing Phone 2, they seem to be adding some curves to the chassis of the device...which is good, but they should curve them even more. The difference in usability between a properly curved device and a boxy one is day and night. It allows the phone to snug into your palm without causing angular issues. This in turn makes the device easier to grip and use one handedly. And if the devs want to take it a step further. They could use a narrower display, but not as narrow as Sony's. Just enough that the average person can comfortably glide their thumb across the screen to the other side. And as for the Control Centre... They could just literally just turn it upside-down and put it on the bottom and be pulled from the sides of the navigation bar for the sake of convenience. Now they can implement a system search feature by swiping down from the home screen. This not only makes the UI more intuitive, but also makes use of the given space. They could then use the Android 4-6 versions of the Setting layout, which is way more superior compared to the confusing mess that they did in later iterations. Make their own SMS app because...let's be real. Android's own SMS app is crap. No way the Google has not thought of separating messages based on if you have the number of the messenger or not. Heck, they don't even allow for segregation of messages. ... Then again, even Gmail is a pain in the ass to use. Also, the notifications. Nothing should really focus on this area. There's a reason why pros use iPhones. And it's not just the ecosystem, it's also the notifications. Timely notifications are a lifesaver. Google somehow has not fixed this, ever. And that has led to the problem of late notifications on Android, especially on Gmail. Emails can go for hours to even months without the phone notifying you of them. And I know Google can do this, since I often get a fuck ton of emails from apps that I apparently am subscribed to. There's also the long-term issue of software support, which every one can say is somewhat important. On top of that, there's repairability and accessibility to intuitive and reliable customer service. And the ecosystem, which they will want to do as they grow larger. A seamless ecosystem from Android would be a dream. Especially if it can utilize and pair with other systems from other brands. This would literally make Nothing THE ANDROID for the masses. It's convenient and easy to use. Has long-term support. Has seamless access to other hardwares and has it's own ecosystem to boot. Imagine buying a phone that can connect to your Lenovo laptop and open a data connection between the two without having to tell the device. Then do the same to your mac, your desktop, and other devices. Though... As it stands. Nothing won't be doing this. Though as time goes on, they'll begin to add more to their brand.

🪄✨ Made with SummarizeYT 0:00 - This phone costs around 50 million dollars to develop. 1:07 - Large companies like Samsung or Apple usually start actively working on a new flagship phone around two full years before they are released. 2:08 - Nothing is able to keep that process to about 10 to 14 months with their phones. 3:01 - The first thing those people have to do when designing a new product is coming up with a concept and for Nothing, that mostly happens in Sweden. 3:45 - 17 people in London are tasked with turning concepts into actual products that can be manufactured, including phones and earbuds. 5:27 - Nothing follows the industry standard practice of having four distinct stages of prototyping. 6:03 - Prototyping alone can cost the company 4 million dollars. 6:31 - While the hardware is built, software has to be developed too. 7:08 - Nothing has gone on a hiring spree to improve their software development team. 7:39 - A massive focus area for any phone's software team is its camera. 8:23 - The software stack is put together on their behalf. 8:27 - The development process includes engineering, design, licensing technologies, and prototyping. 9:01 - Samsung outsources about 70 million low-end devices to Chinese manufacturers. 9:24 - Nothing has over 40 employees as quality inspectors and engineers at the external factory. 10:04 - Nothing's manufacturing partner is a company called BYD Electronics. 11:01 - Nothing has a direct relationship with about 20 key suppliers such as Qualcomm, Samsung, and Sony. 14:00 - Cash flow and supply chain management are critical challenges for hardware startups. 14:23 - The company has raised 150 million dollars from venture capitalists and celebrities. 15:00 - Many hardware startups fail due to high upfront development costs and manufacturing issues.

Any and all current mobile phone technology has to pay to Nokia for the underlying technology in perpetuity since the current and all further networks+technologies are based on Nokia innovations. The funny thing for Nokia at the moment is that while Nokia is a network company, their biggest singular income is from Apple to be able to use Nokia's technologies. Just funny to me. Nokia of course is now creating 6G networks among others - we have one here where I live near to their 'base'. I think Nokia will be around another 100 hears, just like before. I disagree with your notion that a Swedish company is 'the sole designer of phones'. Most mobile phones today - what comes to their design and actual architecture - are designed in a Finnish/Chinese/Indian conglomerate. This international team makes phones for Samsung, Apple, Google and others, including Nokia.
