My son has just been promoted to Sargent at Four years and 1 month. He did a lateral MOS move from 1316 (welder) to 2336 (EOD) last year. He has completed his EOD training and is expert level in both rifle and pistol. It’s looking like he has decided to stay in to retirement.

I picked Cpl Meritorious with a year and 6 months… I did my job, upheld the standards, developed the mentality of I’ll get the answer for you very early, if it was by my own research or just asking around!!! I was also blessed to have good leadership push me and were patient with me allowing me to grow…

Picking up Rank fast really depends on your MOS. If your MOS is flooded, they “freeze” promotions until the higher ups get out of the military. Hence, most of the guys i served with gave up and got out as salty e-3s. Rah. USMC vet.

I picked up E-4 as indirect fire MOS after a year and some odd months then finished my 2 year active enlistment. If they had offered Cyber in the early 1990s I would've stayed in since about half of the time I was OPFOR fire support in TOC working on mainframe battle simulation that was being converted over to Sun workstation but they only offered helo mechanic. I became a boring network engineer as a civilian but miss the military and wonder what I would be doing if I had reup.

Get a 300 PFT as often as possible, just my advice. They always move up.

@@dusitthehto1946 I would say enlisted since that's what I am haha. Enlisted boot camp is a lot tougher mentally, but officer boot camp is a lot harder physically. Either way you'll learn a lot of really good skills
