Aprilynne, you did it again! This was another super helpful, unique and interesting video. Thanks for making it! I completely agree with Amjad that the Thumbnail test is especially helpful for a smaller creator. I tried to start KZbin in 2020 and my thumbnails sucked. I started back up this year and I've been using the thumbnail test religiously, and I feel like it's helped immensely.

What youTube is missing is a way to point the algorithm in another direction when you want to make content that you think will resonate outside of--and not as much with--your core audience. For example, if you could somehow flag the algorithm to pay more attention to hashtags on certain videos for circumstances like that. I do have a workaround I’ve done twice, when I can predict this, and those videos did well. It is to make a reddit post on day 1 of upload in an appropriate subreddit. Hopefully, then the youTube algorithm can better pick up on activity from atypical demographics who found the video through the subreddit from the start.

Suggestion for the video's title, I dont instantly know for sure what a "VP" is. After some thought i'm pretty sure it stands for Vice President. So might be better to say "A KZbin Vice President" or "KZbin's Vice President"

I think that's a bit better than VP, I'm assuming your shortening his job title to keep the video title under 50 characters which is understandable thats pretty important too. If so, you could consider swapping the words honest or conversation for something like "an honest talk" or "a real conversation". Idk lol it's probably not that serious but I just enjoy ideating :P Just some ideas you could consider 👍

@AprilynneAlter I would love to see you take on a frank discussion of "small." I thought I was small until I saw this video and then I realized I am nanoscopic. I get that YT wants to promote the Dream and maybe you cannot make a frank video on this topic without censorship. It would be refreshing to see how hard it is to succeed instead of just hearing about the Unicorns. I want to keep making videos, but I also want to be realistic. This hobby is fun, but also time and resource intensive. If it has a snowball's chance in hell - I want to know! I know what it takes to launch a physical product into the world and I would strongly discourage anyone without deep pockets and resources to try. How similar is YT?

Great interview! You asked awesome questions. I understood YT's reasoning regarding most of his answers. I just wish theyd made the hype thing a lower number of subs, like 100k, or even 50k. For some of us, there aren't 500k people in the entire world who'd be our intended audience, but people who like what I and a handful of others do are a super dedicated bunch who collectively spend a ridiculous amount of time on YT, whether for tutorials or just to watch what other 3D people have made.
@AprilynneAlter2 ай бұрын
I feel that! To me, 500k feels like a massive channel - most of the largest players in my niche are less than 500K! Additionally, I think it would be awesome for the leaderboard of Hype to be based not just regionally, but also based on niche/channel topic

One last comment :) Could you ask him if KZbin could make all metrics available to small creators? Especially the time of day/week users are online, what other content they watch, etc. You cannot get that data unless you have 10,000 views/week and it's incredibly valuable -- but KZbin does have the data and can provide it if they want to. What's up with all these creators who have managed to get a million subscribers or much more through the years and most of them are only getting 50K views or less on their videos. I'm talking about the channels who have been creating for at least 10 years. Something's really out of balance on this platform. I always hear that KZbin is helping the new creator, but what about the creators who have dedicated years and years to build their channels only to see their views plummet? KZbin changed some things about 5 years ago because you can go to a channel that has 2 million subscribers, click on their most popular videos tab and see that 5 years ago they were getting many hundreds of thousands of views on their videos, now crickets, chirp, chirp in comparison.

Sometimes its a sudden change of content, grafual viewer disinterest (like in ryans world) or some true yt ogs who quit for a while. So uh imo its ussuallu some gradual user disinterest
@RadReelingFishingАй бұрын
@@elithelegobrick I'm troubled that the KZbin VP hasn't responded with some sort of explanation. At the end of the day it's the algorithm that makes or breaks a channel. The truth is many, many thousands of popular youtubers 5,6,7, years ago have been neglected by the algorithm in the past few years. It's very evident when looking at the most popular videos from KZbinrs with millions of subscribers, 5 years ago something drastically changed with KZbin's presentation of those channels.
@elithelegobrickАй бұрын

One of the issues about Subscriber count is that even though Subscriber Count allegedly doesn't mean as much now -- sponsors and potential sponsors and followers care about it. And it's what KZbin rewards. No one anywhere is saying "This creator is huge or successful because they have 1 million hours of Watch Time!" They're saying "They're huge, they have 1 million Subscribers!" And KZbin doesn't give 1M Hrs Watch Time plaques. So unless the incentives are aligned with the alleged lower importance of Subscriber Count -- saying Subscriber Count isn't as important any more simply isn't true.
@AprilynneAlter2 ай бұрын
Subscriber count definitely does still matter! Just not as much as it used to - there are plenty of channels that have a large subscriber count, but those subscribers don't necessarily translate to a core audience who actually care about you and who will actually engage with additional offerings you present them with
@TheThinkersBible2 ай бұрын
@@AprilynneAlter understood, but that's not my point. My point is that perception of a channels success -- including perception by KZbin for awards, plaques, invitations to key events, etc. -- and a channel's ability to attract sponsors, isn't based on watch time. It's based on Subscriber Count. Until and unless those perceptions and especially rewards and incentives change -- Subscriber count is and will continue to be very key and very important.

A lotta great stuff here. But what he doesn’t understand, it seems, is that for a lot of us creators, coming up with ideas is the *easy* part. We don’t want to spend more time creating videos. Creating the video is the part that takes so long. I don’t want an AI to give me ideas. I want an AI to save me time in actually editing and making the video. Ideas from an AI are never going to be truly original. They will just be remixes of everything else that’s already out there.

I would have liked to seen the question “If a creator has 631k subscribers - does KZbin show the new video thumbnail to all 631k subscribers Feed/Homepage? Where can a creator see that statistic? I’m not talking about the click through rate statistic. I’m talking about of my 631k subscribers - how many did you show my new video thumbnail to? Why can’t 8 out of 10 of my last videos break 10k views? I feel strongly that KZbin is not putting my content in front of as many people now. My views for the most part have tanked. I’ve paid a thousand dollars for consultations and was told “tweak your thumbnails you are so close”. I did and nothing changed. My thumbnails don’t suck. My videos don’t suck. My content doesn’t suck. I don’t think KZbin has truly shown creators behind their algorithm curtain. The Beast formula doesn’t work for every nichè. Not all nichès care for clickbait video titles. So why are so many established channels tanking in view count? I cannot figure this one out. And I cannot be the only creator experiencing this.
@AprilynneAlter2 ай бұрын
I know for sure that KZbin does not show your video to all of your subscribers - subscription status doesn't really help the KZbin ranking algorithm, and the longer it's been since someone has subscribed to you, the less their subscription status means. It's more so about their own viewing habits now (ex: if someone subscribed to a gardening channel 3 years ago when they were interested in gardening, but then since then has either stopped gardening or stopped watching videos about gardening, your videos about gardening would not continue to be shown to them, even if they are still subscribed.) I don't have all of the answers for you, but I can at least answer that one

Very well said, "So why are so many established channels tanking in view count?" It's so sad that so many years of "your" life were dedicated to building content for KZbin. Where's the loyalty KZbin for the ones who helped build the success of this platform?" Honestly, I think KZbin has figured out what makes them the most money and that's where the focus really is. KZbin pays hardly anything for shorts content, but yet creators are uploading them like crazy because it's easier than creating a long form video. I could write a book here, but I won't.
