Also! I'd love to hear if anyone has any fun warm up exercise suggestions! Aside from from doing studies, I love designing a character inspired off a piece of jewelry or a 3D prop~

as someone that has also being doing art for as long as you and is now at 26 being under investigation for arthritis... yeah, is not a joke guys, take it easy and stretch before working long hours or even just a 30 minutes, y'all don't wanna end up like me, having to learn how to draw again due to extreme wrist pains for months.

Thank you for this. Always a good reminder. Also, I learned some really helpful drawing warm up exercises from the book ‘Draw Stronger.’ They have routines in there for breaks in between drawing sessions as well.

Great video! This is no way near as much talked about as it should be. For me warm ups are essential, even though I don't call them "warm ups". I just see them as a way to get the initial itch to make art out, so I can calm down and dive into, and focus on, the big artwork I plan to make. I just give myself some time to get the jitters out, allow myself to just doodle, smear some paint around, and make some ugly art, and stretch out my wrist and neck so I can work smoother without feeling restricted, unfocused, and stressed. 😋

Fancysmudges, your channel is my favorite find in 2024. I'm on a journey with my art and I have something to SAY with it for the first time, and I am very neurodivergent - a lot of suggestions I've heard all my life just don't work for me. When I watch your videos, I always learn useful things and feel invited to choose healthy, supportive ways of working with the body and life I have. Your voice here is so appreciated! Thank you for continuing to share. Hope you're well!

Thank you so much, that really means a lot!! I wanted to start this channel because combining art & wellness/ mindfulness is really important to me (especially because there was a time where I linked so much of my value to productivity). I'm glad some suggestions have been helpful! 🧡

I'm an artist who developed severe carpal tunnel syndrome and tendinitis when I was 23, take care of your hands everyone!! Do stretches and take breaks, don't end up like me 😭

Thank you for sharing! Very interesting topic to shine the light upon, I haven't heard anyone mentioning the importance of warming up as an artists. I also have a really bad sitting posture, so I try to take breaks in between and do a sun salutation yoga pose afterwards - it always makes my body super light and relaxed (especially my back). Also, your vibe is so warm and radiant I love it ♡

Warming up is so important! I had a habit of sketching to just sketch, but dropped it. I really need to get back into it! It helps improve my more serious projects.

I've dappled in art for many years and have never even thought to do a warm up ahead of time. I appreciate the suggestions, especially the wrist and shoulder stretches, and I'll give them a try! 😄
