How do you add a photo border to your images in Photoshop?
In this video, I show you the easy way to do it with just one click!
I use photo borders for my images on Instagram but I also add white borders to photos that I print. This video teaches you my method and will save you a ton of time if you want to add borders to your photos.

Hi Steve, love your work and the video. I have a question, I created the action as per your instructions. I am using 35mm images, works perfectly for a landscape orientation image but portrait orientation image after running the action doesn’t fit the Instagram window when uploading. Do I have to get a 4-5 crop on the original portrait orientation image before running the action? Thank you. Best regards Paul

so this method ensures the actual printed image size remains the same? ie the border is 'added' outside of the original size?
@SteveGerrardPhotography
@SteveGerrardPhotography 3 ай бұрын
That's correct. But if you order prints the print will be the size of the border, not the image.

@@SteveGerrardPhotography hmm ok. So if I want my actual printed image to be 6x8 with a white border added outside of that size how is that achieved?

Hi, What if I have a specific page size that I want to use and then want to add a border to the inside so that my page size stays the same?

Not sure exactly what you mean by "page size". Do you mean on a website?

@@SteveGerrardPhotography Let's say I have an A4 page and I want to keep it A4 but want to add a border on the inside and then the photo. The original page/dimensions must stay A4.

Thanks for the vid Steve. I've used canvas size a lot, but didn't know about the 'Relative' button, which is a far smarter way of doing it. I'm curious though re unlocking the layer etc. because if you just make the canvas changes (following your instructions) and click 'ok', it adds a white border automatically, i.e. it doesn't create a chequered background, and I don't need to create a new layer, fill it with white and drop it below. Is there an advantage to doing it your way that I'm missing? I appreciate that once automated as an action it doesn't really matter how the end result is achieved, but interested to understand any pros and cons. Cheers

Hi Nick. I think the main thing is that it allows you to edit the results quickly after you've added the border as it's a separate layer. So if you wanna change the colour etc afterwards that's easy to do. But yeah, there are other ways depending on how you want the results and once you find a process you like, the action can do it all in one click.
