I love creators that still put out content that may look too “basic” but in reality there are a lot of us who don’t use these programs so often and therefore don’t know these tricks. Thank you for this video! It helped me a lot! I was creating masks and layers and whatnot.. I knew there had to be a more simple way to get this done!

I have been using the same method as you to ad white borders, however I prefer to ad a very fine black border first (by same method) because I want to limit what I would call "run on". For example, with the abstract photo in your video, that sort of looks like sun rays. I would not want the white 'rays' to just run off into your white border. Putting a black border around the image clearly defines it. For my use I have set up two actions: Shift + F4, for black border; Shift + F4 for white border.
@GlenDomulevicz3 жыл бұрын
I always added borders manually. For some reason I never considered using an action, until now. Thanks for sharing. I will use this.

If you use inches rather then a Percentage you will get a boarder the same width on all sides (when you use percentage it gives you smaller boarders on top and bottom if its a rectangular image)

This is a very useful tutorial. I'm going to set this up. One thing I noticed, is that if the image isn't square, the % adjustment needs to be larger for the width (e.g. an 8x10 ratio needs to have 20% and 25%, if you want the borders to be equal. Although, I just read Randall Robert suggestion, which doesn't require doing math.

Hi Gareth. A well presented, easy to follow explanation of this process. I use inches for my frames because I like to use different sizes, but I'll give percentage a try next time Many thanks for sharing.
@GarethDanks4 жыл бұрын
Hey man thanks for watching appreciate the comment 2 inches would work perfectly if you knew the size of the image you were working with every time.Sometimes if I’m applying it to a multiple of images different sizes I find the percentage works better because it’s all relative

Great little tutorial. The only thing I would say is that traditional prints have an equal sized border all of the way round. If you use percentages it will be easier for batch processing (actions) as the dimensions are irrelevant but the more obviously rectangular the photo is the more a percentage rather than a measurement (inches/cm) emphasises this. That's what maths is there for, it'll bugger you up if you don't keep an eye on it :-) Randall Roberts spotted the same issue.

Thank you for a great video. I hope you're still replying to comments. Could you please explain how to along with the border add a logo into the border. I have school photos that need a school logo and date on each photo, im looking for an easy way to do this in batch. thank you
@GarethDanks3 жыл бұрын
Hi Natalie thanks for watching. If you add the logo to your library, then do the same thing and create an action like we’ve done here but with opening and dropping the logo in from the library it should do the job. It’s basically creating a watermark so if it doesn’t work google creating a watermark in photoshop. Hope that helps. 😊

Wherever I go I can't find the answer to my question: for digital printing, does my picture need to have a border? I ask this because I post/ advertise them with a white border and black border/ frame around it. I think some of my pictures need it but I don't know if I should only cut the black border and print them with the white border or print them with no border or a thin white border so that they can be framed by buyers. It's a confusing mess to explain maybe that's why no one says anything about it. Maybe if you view one of my pictures you'll see what I'm dealing with? @sarahlouosephotographyandart on Instagram. I am just worried that because it's advertised one way then that's what people will expect, for it to come with the white border. Also I'm worried about how to advertise the size of it, do j advertise the image size or the image size with the border so people know what frame size to get.
