Such a good mod. I was thinking along the same lines last weekend when i was getting all the leaves and gunk out of my radiators. Such a simple thing but would save having to replace a rusted radiator. I like the red!
@BurnersCars7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And, yeah, super simple considering how quickly all that gunk collects in the OEM setup!

What did you do with the grilles you removed?
@kostik7 жыл бұрын
Red is beautiful, Ben. Makes a great contrast to black. I have a much difficult decision to make since my car is [rainforest] green. Btw, my first mod was to hide some plastic with leather: instagram.com/p/BOLBRt_ga7l/?taken-by=cocoapriest

Thanks! I love that mod, btw. Those plastic armrests really need it!

I really enjoy your videos. I watched your IMS series and I don't think I have the B___s to do it. I just purchased my first Boxter, a 2004 S Anniversary edition and I don't want to screw it up. However, your videos do inspire confidence in me. My first project will be to replace my horns as only (1) is currently working. Your video on removing the bumper and cleaning the radiator really helps! Keep up the great work and I look forward to more videos. Now the pressure is on to find other projects!!!!

Welcome, and thanks! I look forward to seeing what you do with your Porsche! Always plenty of fun projects! But, yes, the IMS project was definitely nerve wracking!

So how did you get metal stick to plastics?
@klod1036 жыл бұрын
Alternatively you can use lath style black gutter guard. It's the right size and needs minimal trimming.
@WunderboyStudios7 жыл бұрын
Good job, but I think it clashes against the amber headlamp trim. Need to tint the amber or install clear headlamps/xenons. Also, if you keep the red there, you should prob paint the side intake grilles red too to match.
@BurnersCars7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, good points. Since I don't know that I want to make those changes, I might make it black.

I’ve just done this rads clean job, the amount of feathers and leaves etc was unbelievable. While I had it in bits I cut a big square of mesh and attached it over the actual rads with some clear zip ties leaving it a bit curved so not touching the fins. I did put the mesh in sight in the centre intake as it’s an S You’d have to be looking very closely to see the centre one and I’d need to run you over but keep you alive long enough to look in and even spot the side mesh Your videos are great 👍
@BLINPorsche6 жыл бұрын
I mounted my mesh to the original pieces and snapped them back in place. Home Depot has black gutter guard. I bought one piece, cut it in half and used zip ties, looks great. Of course after I cleaned the radiator. Thanks Great video !!

I did a 600 mile drive one day in my Cheyenne and parked back in my garage. Two days later I went into the garage for something and picked up a strong odor. In my search for the source I found a dead bird (big bird) in the grill right up against the right radiator. Thankfully it had not gotten to the radiator and done damage but it was a mess to clean out.

That's equal parts disgusting and hilarious! Cheers!

As always, well done video particularly the verbalization of the process. The red looks good. I've got a black 996 and have black seat covers with a broad red stripe down the middle. That might be a good match up if you stick with the red.

What has been the long term effect of the mesh? Still cooling fine? Did they cut down on the debris in the radiators?

Mine has been intermittently making that same noise for two years, I even bought a new starter but now I'm going to change it. I going to group my jobs clean throttle body, change air/oil separator. I read the other day that it is not uncommon for the boxster to blow smoke now and then what do you think? That's what my car does few and far between. Thanks soooo much for the video's!!!!
@BurnersCars7 жыл бұрын
If your Boxster is blowing smoke on every startup, then it's almost certainly the AOS. But if it only does it occasionally (say when it's cold or after sitting for awhile), then it's probably normal. That said, the AOS seems to go out pretty regularly. I think they often last only 20-40k miles, so it could be one of those "while you're in there" jobs. Cleaning the throttle body is a great idea, too, since you have to take it out anyway.

I want to do this so bad with mine...they look awesome! Not sure what colour to paint them that would compliment the Meridian Metallic body on mine though. And my stupid temp. sensor keeps slipping out of that little loop on the grill louver and just hangs behind so your solution is frikkin' ingenious!
@BurnersCars7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I love this upgrade. It has worked really well in the few months I've had them installed. It's nice, too, because it's not a big deal to repaint them... you can try out a few different colors... personally, I think black would work well with Meridian Metallic.

PT Cruisers and any other bit of trash laying around on the road lol pretty hilarious. Keep up the good work on these vids man, you helped me keep my 986 back on the road with that water pump video. Definitely gonna consider doing this to my car, flat black on Guards Red sounds about right.

Silver. If it wears off or chips, you won't notice because of the galvanized lathe material underneath. Also, silver and black are a classic combo. Silver also along matches better with your marker lenses. You could also use some accents on the car itself. It's very black. Thanks for making this video. It was enjoyable.

nice work! I have just replaced both condensors on my car at consdierable cost, both the old ones had severe leaks in the lower outside corners because that is where all leafs accumulate. To protect the new condensors i will do this mod as well. note: the 996 has similar setup! About the color, I prefer a more stealthy look. Instead of red i prefer gunmetal grey.
@BurnersCars7 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir! I'll probably experiment with black/grey/titanium and see how that looks, too. I've heard so many stories like yours, so this was definitely a priority for me!

Thanks for the video! I made a mesh grill for my first car (Infiniti G20) about 15 years ago and painted in black. I remember the mesh I used was not that thick and it was easy to shape. Hot glue it to the chrome trim with a Nismo emblem. Unfortunately I don't have any picture of it but it looked awesome!

Great mod !!! I would have tried yellow/orange to match the flasher lens unless you have red calipers to match your new meshes I would keep them red.
