Such a small change yet it makes stuff look soo much better. I had been using pathfinder and whatnot but instead of using the 'offset' I was manually tweaking it with the direct select tool. Thanks soo much for the tutorial!

Lol, all this time I was doing this by hand (by copying, enlarging then tweaking). It actually get me more interesting, dynamic outlines but I was always wondering if there's a way to do that easier, good to know. :)

iNezumi haha I do the same too and I agree that your way results in a more dynamic outline. Now I realized I can use "shift width" tool after using the technique in the video then enlarge/tweak the parts to make it more dynamic.

Awesome tip! Just a question though, I really like the game art of a particular mobile game called Furball Rampage. Their borders look more organic than your approach. (with parts of the lines thinner) How do you get those kind of borders? (I have no idea how they got that kind of animation too....) Thanks for the comment, I saw the reference and it has good borders also which are more dynamic. But this are also because they added line weights to their artwork which also adds a lot to any artwork. this can be acchieved in illustrator by setting a line weight profile to fade at the end of any stroke, or in photoshop you can have a brush that fades or follows your tablets pressure. My video right here is to add a sort of a "global"border that wraps around any character. you can also choose if you want the final artwork to have general line thickness or you want more dynamic lines. i.imgur.com/g6whxZg.jpg

Thanks for the additional tip! Maybe you can do a video on something like what they did as a supporting video to this one? (even a short one would be nice) Sorry if I'm asking too much.
