How to Add Characters in Mugen

This is a start in a possible line of new tutorials for Mugen since I felt my older tutorials were a little outdated. In this tutorial I will be going over how to add characters to your mugen game. Keep in mind that this is using mugen 1.1b. Where you can get characters for mugen is completely up to you. Some good websites I would recommend for characters and stages are:

wait i figured it out. some mugen characters have folders with folders inside them. you have to take the second folder out of the first and make sure the def file is the same name as the folder. Hope this Helps ; )

I don't have much experience with editing the character sprites manually. But you can edit the size of the sprites (which I think also affects hitboxes) in the char's cns file.

1. Or the charactsr name is not The same as the DEF folder, so you have to rename the file. 2.maybe the character doesn't got a icon for it, there are tutorials showing how to fix it 3. The version of the mugen and the character aren't the same, sorry, but this one you can't fix or anything...you need to download the version of the mugen that the character was made for.

I'm pretty new to Mugen, and even with this tutorial, I'm still having trouble getting fighters installed. Specifically, I've been trying to install Ahuron's rendition of Sukapon into the game. I've been putting in "Sukapon.def" in the select file, and still, nothing's coming of it. Is there something I'm missing?

great video, but i was trying to add different chars to pre-existing ones; for example i wanted to update megaman from MVC to an alternate better version with a much larger moveset from MVC2 but when i go to the character select screen i just see a blank space. You can either get a custom mugen game with a screenpack (my personal favorites are LEGACY and EVE) or you can manually edit the system.def file manually.

For those who it still doesn't work for, I think I know why: So, if you have the def file matching the folder that's good. But what you might not have done is this: Character folder name, stages/character folder name.def I did that and it worked

You dont need to keep the def the same as the folder as long as you put it foldername/defname.def
