That's the best tutorial I've seen on the topic. The first one barely taught me anything, the second one was a guy saying your image HAD to be 2024 by 1012 (which is too small in my opinion) and here is yours completing anything I needed. thanks.

Thanks. I added my very cluttered and light polluted backyard to Stellarium, which is a game changing feature for planning AP sessions. Although I was able to adjust the position of Polaris on the horizontal X- axis, the latitude Y-axis is off by about 12 degrees. Is there a line of code for the *.ini file that will adjust the vertical axis? Thanks again for you video.

Thank you for this, my fourth tutorial on this subject and the FIRST to tell me how it wants the co-ordinates typed. Got my surroundings looking good in no time. Well the image edit took a while but those sparse winter trees are done nicely. I'll have to do a summer version too.
@AstroEscape2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it helped. The coordinates being typed in a certain way does matter to how Stellarium reads it! I haven't ever bothered with a summer/winter version, I just edit the trees as if the leaves are on them. Then again, I know what they look like in both seasons and it's purely personal preference! Clear skies Nugsy!

Always wondered if this could be done. Would like to have the site, that I usually go to, shown on Stellarium. That would make my plan on taking AP a lot easier to plan out. Thanks.

this is a brilliant tutorial but try as I might I cannot get Stellarium to accept the correct Rotazez. It doesnt matter what number I put in it does not change the setting, even following your guide to deleting the ini file and then saving a new one to Stellarium. Do you have any tips please? Regards, Richie
@AstroEscape2 жыл бұрын
Is that the only number that doesn't save? Have you tried changing your latitude or longitude to make sure that it is reading the txt file? Remember, it has to be formatted exactly how I show in the video or Stellarium won't be able to read it! Please let me know what you find out.

I have a co-worker that is a space nerd and a Mac user, unlike me. I'm going to ask him tomorrow to follow along on his Mac to help out with your question. He's also the guy that had the Pentax in my "How to Set up the ASI AIR Plus" video, so I'm sure he'll help out. We are both computer people professionally, so if he can give me an answer, I'll let you know.

@@AstroEscape awesome I appreciate that 👍🏻
@AstroEscape2 жыл бұрын
@@danieladamson860 So after talking with him, you should be able to save it. MacOS has the capability to save simple text as any file. If that's not working, try a text editor like CodeRunner or Sublime Text, those should let you save it. Even if Mac can't read the .ini, Stellarium will.
@danieladamson8602 жыл бұрын
@@AstroEscape okay cool, I noticed that the Mac doesn’t download all the other files like landscapes etc like the windows does. I tried to find it on hidden files but nothing comes up. Only the Stellarium app downloads if that makes sense. Got any ideas about that? Thanks for getting back to me though!

Like your video , I have tried to follow yours and others and I still run into the same problem , my image looks like I am looking through a bottle. I for the life of me can not figure out what I am doing wrong. I have taken a picture with my phone on panoramic and also took one through google street and basically get the same thing. Any Ideas what I could be doing wrong ?? I had someone make me one last year and I had to reformat the computer and forgot to save the image
@AstroEscape3 жыл бұрын
A few things come to mind. Is the image saved as a .png? If not, it will need to be saved as that and updated in landscape.ini What do you have the type set to in landscape.ini? For using the google image or a cell phone panorama, you should have the line "type = spherical" in landscape.ini. If that doesn't help, under the line that has the name of the image, add in "maptex_top = 15" That number can be changed, default is 90. It can include decimals up to the hundredths place, so you may need to play around with it a bit and see if that helps line everything else up. Lastly, is your altitude set correctly?
@Steve_The_Ignorant_Astronomer3 жыл бұрын
@@AstroEscape yea pretty much doing that, have not played with the maptex but everything I have been watching is just change to png make sure of the pix size but always seem to get the same thing happen. Right after I reformatted I remembered I did not save..

I had to input a negative number on the azimuth setting. My elevation is off. Trying to figure out how to fix that. Maybe taking panorama from almost ground level and another at 6". I have a 12" GoTo dobb. Planets were coming up Before Stellarium showed them coming up... I guess I will have to figure it out, unless someone has already done so.

Did you have it set to the correct date? In the text file, did you follow the format that it requires for your coordinates?

Ah, I just posted on one of your other vids about adding custom landscapes and that I had a video on it on my channel. But you have one too I just see. Nice! I think mine shows possibly an easier way to remove the sky in Photoshop.

Very nice method, I like it! Did you see my video about adding your images to Stellarium?
@odinata3 жыл бұрын
It doesn't work. Stellarium doesn't see the new folder copied into the landscapes folder.
@AstroEscape3 жыл бұрын
Is the text file in the folder named correctly? It HAS to be named landscape, and you need to save it as an .ini file type for it to work.
@odinata3 жыл бұрын
@@AstroEscape Yes I did all that. The only way to get it to work is to put it into a zipped folder and then stellarium will prompt you for the location of a zipped folder and unzip it
@AstroEscape3 жыл бұрын
@@odinata That's interesting. Are you using Windows 10? I know that Stellarium requires admin access to change anything, I wonder if your security settings are a little more strict than mine for that folder.

Great Video! Just an FYI for your sky removal though... If you haven't tried the latest Photoshop CC sky removal tool, you should try it.... Does an excellent one click job of automatically selecting the sky and then simply hit delete to remove all of the sky in a photo! It does an amzing job of selecting around tree branches! 👍

Who deleted my comment? Why is no one using AI-generated panos on Stellarium?
@AstroEscape Жыл бұрын
I don't know who deleted it... it wasn't me! I was at a star party. I think the devs of Stellarium would need to create the ability to pull in those panos, which I don't think it can do.
