We can break out gpio 4, 16, 12, 13, 14 with the method, however gpio 15 is grounded by the module and gpio 5 is on the right side of the ic which can't be soldered because of less space between SPI memory chip and the esp8266 ic

Yep, good flux is the key for good soldering.

Nice soldering, how do you go about flashing the esp once gpio16 and reset are connected. I read somewhere it stops the chip being flashed (my guess is reset pin pulled low on boot). I am about to do this on soon, would OTA still work?

Better you should use diode. Then you can still program by UART or OTA. Chyba, że jednak wolisz beeez 😁.

What do you mean? Isn't it enough to pull the RST pin on low to flash/program it?

@@yukku121 It is not a good idea to raise the voltage on RST to VCC (from GPIO16) on the one hand and try to short it to GND on the other.

@@dktr2 Correct. I found it impossible to solder until I added additional flux. Also, more difficult on the ESP-01S as there is a component, looks like a smt capacitor, in the way for the wire to lay flat. Tried the smallest insulated wire I could find, 28g telephone wire, insulation wouldn't stay on the curve when heated enough to melt solder. Pull a strand out of finely stranded wire, may have been what your wire was? Thanks for the video, very informative.
