Heated Steering wheel retrofit DIY on BMW E90 M3. I am showing you how to add an exclusive fuse for a new electrical device with BMW specification. First look into the parts catalog, buy the contact terminal for holding the fuse, then start the tough work of removing the fuse box. Don't worry, the full walkthrough and tips are shown here. You can make it too!

Classic BMW engineering wisdom: put battery in trunk for improved weight distrbution, require power to open trunk lid and completely eliminate mechanical lock... 😉

Hahaha yes José I had goose bumps at the very moment I closed the trunk lid! And isn’t this the fun part of DIY 🤣🤗

Congratulations for your effort, great job! I want to do a similar procedure but with another car, i want to put a heating kit in the seats and I want to pass the wire through the ignition so that I have power on it after I put the ignition on, however i don't understand one thing: You connected one end of the red wire to the fuse panel via that double leaf spring contact pin, but where did you connect the other end of that wire? Thanks in advance.

Hi Aurel thank you for the comments! The double leaf spring contact pin will connect the fuse, so this is the +12V power source. The other end of the wire will go to the module/device/consumer we add to the car. For your plan, the wire goes to your heating mat. Let me know if you have any questions! And best luck with your project 🤗

@@funcarsgoodpeople So I understand that where the fuse is inserted on the panel, in one of the holes we already have that leaf spring contact pin and voltage, but the second hole is empty and leaf spring contact pin is missing, and so we only have to insert that missing pint so that we can extend the current through the fuse to our consumer? I hope you understand what I mean, my english is not so good :) Thank you.

Yes Aurel your understanding is correct! Don’t worry about language 🤗 this is my very early video so I might miss a lot of information. Please excuse me for that. Further discussions are welcomed! And don’t forget to let us know your progress!

Great tutorial thanks! This was exactly what I was looking for, great idea to setup the replays behind the fuse box! :) I have question the terminals connectors you have used the BMW oem parts, but Im sure these are some generic terminal connectors, do you happen to know that model these are? Double leaf spring contact - BMW# 61 13 1 378 906 Double leaf spring contact with pickoff - BMW# 61 13 6 937 069 What gauge wires were used to provide switch to the relay and to power the devices? The ground connector was a normal 6.3mm? Many thanks

Hello Tiago thank you very much for the comment! And sorry for the late reply because of my busy work. Yes I happened to find the part numbers of the double leaf spring contact on the M3post (or E90post, I cannot remember) forum. Somebody shared a post about adding a fuse to the fuse panel. These part numbers can also be found in realoem.com but they are not easy to find. Some cross reference work (online forums, realOEM and ISTA) is needed but it's fun for me. For the wire supplying the relays, I used the gauge of 0.75 mm^2 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKrPkHVvYp12kK8si=gR0mGlnuiLnxMvaG&t=466). I saw on the wiring diagram the wire is connected to a 10 Amp fuse so I thought the 0.4 Amp required by the relays should be okay. The gauge of ground wire for the relays is 4.0 mm^2 just because I have no other brown wires (BMW color for terminal 31, the ground.) Of course this gauge is too much for 0.4 Amp but it should be safe. Let me know if I can help you with more information! Carl
