Lei, Congrats on the new fish. LOVING the butterfly telescopes! A quick question/observation on the buoyancy issues the two butterfly telescopes experienced during the quarantine period - there is soooo much misinformation floating around on so many of the platforms regarding treatment, causation etc. So many hobbiests experience this issue with their fancy goldfish varieties and get paniced and over-react when dealing with fish that succumb to this misunderstood 'ailment' that they end up doing far more damage to the fish and their water conditions. Could you perhaps address the issue in more detail in another video? I think many of your viewers would benefit from your calm and measured approach. It might also be beneficial, given the industry connections you have fostered over the years, to also include insight from the various professional keepers and breeders you know on how they approach the issue as well.

Hi *Bruce* , Glad to hear from you. just pinned 📌 your comment. You always share deep thoughts here on my channel. Appreciated! You actually brought a really good point about the buoyancy issue. I should have talked more about it. When I saw the two telescopes get some issues with swimming bladder, my first thought is to figure out what stage of the swimming bladers. Look like in the early phase (probably due to transportation) and should be curable. It is a good topic to discuss the cause and stages of buoyancy/swimming bladder issues. Thank you for the suggestion!

How exciting! They are beautiful! It is so interesting to watch as some people may vary slightly in how they quarantine new fish. I also love having quarantine tank below main tank. Best wishes to your family and all new goldfish. Salt has done me wonders in fishkeeping. I love that your transparent and showed the entire process so people can see how important quarantine is.

Hi *Becca* , pinned your comment 📌 since you read my mind. It took me almost a month to make the video. Really wanna show the whole process. Like you said, *quarantine is an important step* and likely ignored by beginners (happened to me once and I lost 4 fancies). The key of quarantine is to separate your new fish with others for a few days. Yes, there some variations in medication or treatments.

When I got my goldfish from Zhao's Fancies (he has amazing fish!) I floated the bags to get them used to the temperature, but once the bag was opened the fish got put right into the tank because the ammonia would start turning toxic when the bag is opened and new oxygen comes in (if I remember right). I haven't looked at Goldfish Kingdom before, they have some lovely fish! Great shaped ranchu!

Hi Juliet, Thank you for sharing your experience. I had good experience with Zhao’s goldfish. His fish is health and vibrant. When I bought BEP from him in 2017, I don’t quarantine the fish. Everything was fine.

Hello Lei, beautiful your new fish! I like the Ranchu, Farfalla and Panda. He made a very useful video that is suitable for all hobbyists in reality. Quarantine is fundamental and essential for all fish, especially if they are purchased from breeders and companies. Your system is professional and excellent. The use of the salt of the and of the aquafuran antibiotic. I know this system, I would just like to say that the salt would be good to dose it slowly as you did and better still dilute it with a lot of water to avoid osmotic shocks to the fish. Being dusty, the antibiotic Aquafuran should be used with the precautions of gloves and mask if possible, although a dilution in water before putting it in the tank would be useful. As you said it is photosensitive to light and it is good to leave the aquarium and the dark environment. I am happy to see your fish after weeks of acclimatization to good health. What kind of food do you use for them? I saw a green thing you administered. Happy Sunday and thank you for this video.

@@GoldfishCorner most of my fish arrive with multiple parasites, so in order to get rid of most of single cell ones I treat them with heat (31C) and salt. Salt first day 0.3%, after 48 h I increase to 0.6% and keep it this way for 10 days, maybe 2 weeks, depending on microscope scrapes. When single cells are cured, then I start lowering the temperature by 2C per week and implement fluke treatment if there is high manifestation of skin flukes or if I see gill flukes. The whole QT takes about a month, sometimes longer. When I was using harsh medication for single cell parasites, I was losing too many fish as they were already weakened by the shipping (I need to import fish from abroad). This way I almost have no loses in the first month (ordering around 15 fish each time). My experience is just based on the types of parasites I usually see, and almost always I deal with white spots, costia and flukes. Possibly my approach would me milder if I had fish from another source and not weak after long shipment. Thanks.

Loved this video! What is your protocol if you are buying fish from a local store or a source where they probably have parasites?
@GoldfishCorner
@GoldfishCorner 2 жыл бұрын
*Claire* , good question. I did have the experience early on buying goldfish from local store, and then they got lice and anchor worm issue. If you expect parasites, please quarantine them longer for two weeks. It takes about 21 days for lice to grow from eggs. Instead of using yellow powder and salt, you need to treat your fish with Hikari ParziPro, or API general care medication to remove parasites. And treat again after 2 weeks. Then the fish should be ready to add to your home tank

How you do with the cycle in the quarantine tank with no filter? It is not dangerous? How often do you change the water in the quarantine tank? Thanks😊
@GoldfishCorner
@GoldfishCorner 2 жыл бұрын
Aha, we got some experts here! Good point. I only put an airstone but no filter in the tank. The way I mitigate my risk is below: (1) put 50% aquarium water and 50% fresh water into quarantine tank and kept my aeration on over 1 week before adding new fish; (2) no or less feeding during quarantine; (3) water change twice a day to vacuum fish waste and add 0.5% salt water as refill. The ideal case is to put filtration in your quarantine tank if possible but not required if you don’t feed them

Hi *Vyshnavi* , agreed with *John* ‘s comment. The frequency and percentage of water change depends on your tank size, filtration power, and the amount of fish. For my 40 gal tank with 4 fancy goldfish, I do 10% WC twice a day during weekdays basically vacuuming the waste and 50% during weekends. Please make sure use *Aged water* for refill no fresh tap water

If you plan to mix new fish and old fish, yes you need to quarantine the new fish first. If you already mixed them and your fish start to die, you need to treat the whole tank. Many reasons for new goldfish to die… Disease, filtration, etc. some tips for new fish, no need to feed your new fish for a week, make sure you have sufficient tank space.

Sir i need some advice on your quarantine method. How much water do you remove daily since there's no filtration? How many days did you medicate with yellow powder? Is it only once on the 3rd day you started to feed? Since salt doesn't evaporate how do you maintain the 0.5 % salt? Thank you in advance.
@GoldfishCorner
@GoldfishCorner 2 жыл бұрын
Good questions! I did water change twice a day, 15-20% each time. Make sure you add 0.5% salt water as refills. The trick I did is to measure the weight of you removed water. Then used the weight to calculate how much salt you need to make 0.5% for the same amount of fresh water. How many days of quarantine depends on your fish status. If the fish actively seek food and not disease symptoms (rot fin, swimming bladder issue, extra slim, etc), you may end it at day 3 like what I did. I kept 0.5% salt water consistently over the whole quarantine time and added yellow powder twice: 1 teaspoon/ 20gal and then on day 2 added 0.5 teaspoon yellow powder/20gal. During the quarantine time, no feed for first two days since I don’t have filtration. If your goldfish looks fine on day 3, you may start to feed once a day but not over feed them. If they looks fine, then move them to the home tank. If they still have issues, then keep quarantine for another 3 days, you may feed them once a day but do 30% water change twice a day
