Agreed. I have a deep excitement for learning new things. I project that onto others. I share what I learned because I cannot experience that feeling of initial understanding when I learn something. However, I can experience it vicariously through others when they learn it for the first time. Some people take my sharing of what I know as a sign of arrogance in what I know. That’s their loss. Nice video Leila. The only problem I have with comments is that they don't quite move with the cell say in case you happen to filter a specific set of cells in a table. And when you want to see the comments for those cells they all seem to be floating in the original place where the comment was first created. Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to explain. That's why I've been using the validation message option as of lately, but the draw back here is that unlike comments you don't quickly notice that that cell has a comment (i.e. the red arrow in the corner of the cells).

Hi Leila, I’ve noticed that in Excel 365 that if you want to copy and paste what is now called a “note” that after you copy and try to paste special, the only option you see is “comments” - thankfully it works whether you are trying to copy & paste either a comment or a note. Great video as always!

Comments are very useful to explain cell contents. However, there are also pop up tips inserted in specific cells to guide you through how a document works. They are popular with templates to guide the user. Please can we have a video on that if possible? (Oliver Twist). Lol

Yes - I just saw the file. That's data validation setting under "input message". I briefly mentioned this in the data validation video, but you're right - it would be good to make a video on different methods to get screen-tips in excel. Thanks for the suggestion. It's added to my list.

Mine just stopped working. I right clicked and added a new comment. Then went to the cell below it, entered new data, right clicked for new comment and it keeps jumping to the previous cells comment. I've been at this for an hour now. Idk if its this whacky ACER laptop (don't buy one) or the Microsoft software being goofy. 🤦🏽‍♀️

Hi Leila. Do you know a indirect function for the comments, ie notes? Lets say in cell A1 I put a note:"Test". In cell A2 I put the unknown function =getnote(A1). Cell A2 should show "Test" then. And pls no VBA, it has to work on a online Excel365 Spreadsheet too.

Hi Leila. Thanks for this nice video. Learnt few goods tips from this. But I still have a problem. I use Excel sheet with certain panes frozen. Let's say 7colums from the left, and 4rows below. Now I add a NOTE in the sixth column. Save and close. Now reopen the excel sheet, and hover over the "note" and in normal circumstances, any person should be able to read it as normal. But just in case the sheet has been scrolled to the right (meaning - now few coloums are hidden behind the frozen pane) then I am able to see only half the text. Also, at times when I am trying to "edit note" it just takes me quiet down below in the sheet...say by 300-400 rows below. Can you please advise, what is causing this and how to stop it. Please make a video regarding nested if and named ranges. Basically, I have 6 named ranges (A, B, C, D, E & F) with multiple codes in each one. I have a 25000 + rows customerwise dataset with those codes. So now i need to check each customer's code in those 6 named ranges and return diff specified values. So i want excel to look for code1 in Named range A, and if found return a value say "AA" if not go look in B and return "BB", If not found go look in C , D and so on. Can you please help me with this. I need to do this every other day and my named range gets updated every once in a while and my dataset is new every day. Thanks in advance.

Ihave an unusual problem in Excel. When I write in a cell on Excel the spacebar does not work. It works for all other apps…but only in Excel it doesn’t work. The only way I can insert a space is if I use Option Key + Spacebar…this is on my Mac

Hi. This was a nice presentation, but it doesn't address the particular thing that brought me here. Notes can be formatted easily, but comments don't seem to have this functionality. I deal with a lot of alpha-numeric data in which (especially in the execrable SegoeUI font) is easily misread (1, l, and I look very similar, notably), and I want to change the font for my comments to something more readable like Tahoma or even a monotype font like Courier. So far my research into this has turned up no way of doing this.

I have a spreadsheet with thousands of comments. With excel 2010 I could format all comments at once; with 2016 I can only change the formatting one cell at a time. Is there a way to format all comments globally in 2016?

Hello Leila I'm a bit novice with Excel but I do enjoy learning it. Soon In your video I was hoping for an instruction on how to insert a photo in notes of Excel. The reason I want to do this is I want to get away from inserting a photo in a cell as this is very fiddle to do and messy. I use a membership Microsoft so my software is the latest version It would be so great to tidy up the sheet. I help my missus with her fishing permits in keeping a log of all IDs of fisherman and is very handy to have photo ID for the river watchers (River police). Rules in Scotland are somewhat different. Id this possible to insert photo in a excel notes comment.

Learned a few things but my greatest challenge is viewing the comment without having to click Edit to be viewable. When bringing up a comment (note) on the far right side, you find it is not fully visible and to make it so, you have to click Edit Note and then it shows on the left side - such a waste of time. How can you make a comment visible on the Left side without having to click edit?

If you read this, could you reply to me on how to lock in place those notes (what I came to know which was in fact the old comment feature, good thing they changed it because it is indeed proper for it to be called note) even if there is movement or new cells were inserted, the note's line direction and placement remain and would follow the movement of the cell it originates from? Example: The line from the cell goes northeast, and there you can find the note. If the cell moves to the right, the line now would go to northwest from the cell, and then the placement of the note is on west not on east anymore. Leila, I use notes in many of my spreadsheets placing then next to the cell they pertain to. After closing the spreadsheets and reopening it the note is not on the same place on the screen. Sometimes the note will appear at the top of the sheet. the size of the note box will change and you have to reopen the note to resize it and move it back to the location you want it placed. Do you have any idea why this would be happening? I am using Office 365 Thank you.

How do you select ALL Comments and change the formatting all at once? OR convert all the comments to a column so they can be edited? I'm having issues where my comments interfere with my ability to select a dropdown List Item. When I hover over the cell, the comment pops up and then I can select the dropdown icon in the upper left corner of the cell.
