How do you remove a portal? Destroy the blocks around a portal doesn’t do it

So what I found out to be, my problem was, that I was using a modded pickax, multi pickax breaker tool. And when it would break the blocks, it wouldn’t destroy the portal however, if you just use a regular pickax on it, it should work just fine and the portal will go away.
