In today's modern metal, djent tutorial I add synths, guitar, drums and percussion production to a metalcore song similar to bands like Glassjaw. All modern metal has some layers of sounds and in this lesson I go over my thought process while adding production in real time to metalcore music. Djent, deathcore, metalcore and all genres use layers as a way to make the song more interesting, so join along for this lengthy look into my mind when writing music of any genre. Enjoy my complimentary attempt at metal humor / comedy.
I'm Brendon Padjasek of the band Structures from Toronto, Canada and welcome to my channel based on modern metal, djent, and deathcore music, production, mixing and song writing.
Gear used today: Sequential Pro 3, Nord Electro 6D, Korg Wavestate, random thrift store snare and percussion. Heavy use of Sound Toys plugins as well as Fab Filter

Being a guitarrist i never thought of trying sounds with a keyboard while the music is going, i always worked writing directly through midi. This will help me a lot with creativity, thanks!

Thank you my man! A lot of people are stoked on metal musicians using Ableton as I guess it’s a lot rarer than other DAWs. Which is insane seeing how amazing the tools are within it. Now that they have the group and Link fiction, I could comfortable track an album of drums in there

@@thisisflojo Yeah I don't think they were intended to be final sounds without mixing each separately in a SAW. I saw a recent Nolly video where he even mixes them as a multi out. You just get WAYYYY more freedom and options when using external plugins

@BrendonKPadjasek
@BrendonKPadjasek Жыл бұрын
I’m mostly using synths for the mid range (500-3k) and cater around my guitar, and vocals. I don’t typically like too much low end in my synths so cutting them around 60hz and upwards seems to always help as well

@@BrendonKPadjasek that helps thank you , I m not actually sure how to fit the extra layers of elements in the production so I try not to overdo it but I think I should just experiment more to see what works and how .
@BrendonKPadjasek
@BrendonKPadjasek Жыл бұрын
Experimenting is key. Just remember that low frequencies can build up QUICK and not every instrument needs the low frequencies they have The hard part is not thinning your mix out too much by cutting out too much sub/ lows

id like to point out that your entire youtube channel is built around ways to make riffs that have no melody of interesting elements more interesting, and in doing so, only points out why those riffs are no good

im just sayin as someone who loved the structures stuff as a kid, you could just pay more attention to melody and chords and not so much about fixing the inconsistencies that occur in music in order to make simple/bland things sound better @@BrendonKPadjasek
@BrendonKPadjasek
@BrendonKPadjasek 5 ай бұрын
@user-xl8qs4gb2j I could, but I’m more concerned with sounds as opposed to notes. There are so many channels of shredders and people concerned with notes and chords. I don’t really care about that kind of stuff because EVERYONE plays notes, but not everyone plays sounds. Thanks for listening to old structures though. That’s cool!
