Razor DXT Big Wheel: www.amazon.com... I added schedule 40 pvc to prevent constantly replacing my wheels. It works well. Wheels last much longer and slide much better on the street. They slide the same on finished concrete.

I just ordered one of these for my sons b-day and noticed the price of the replacement wheels. My first thought was a PVC sleeve and so I came to KZbin first to see if anyone has done the mind work to save me the hassle. I just so happen to have a 10" pvc pipe in our junk pile at work! :) Great video and very informative. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. My grandson watched it with me. He had an idea. Would it be beneficial to add spray foam to the insides of the tires?
@YeahPete5 жыл бұрын
I tried adding spray foam to try repairing one of those plastic Big wheels but the foam was too weak. It may still be a fun experiment to do with the grandson. Pretty bright idea. The spray foam may help the screws grip. Thanks for the comment!

I’m getting ready to do this but putting screws down the middle of the wheel a good idea. That’s the weak part isn’t it that’s a blow molded wheel connected down the center. Did it weaken it any.
@YeahPete2 жыл бұрын
I took her out for a ride yesterday. Does look like 1 of the screws is loose but it still works. I still have the original pvc sleeves on it. Without the pvc sleeve the wheels will wear down to nothing very fast.

Just got my son one of this bikes, he loves it. Already went through 2 sets of wheels since Xmas. Does the lip on the wheel need to be worn down to get the pipe of it? Before i go and purchase new wheels and the pipe i would like to get all my ducks in a row. GREAT mod! Thanks.

Is there any danger of the pvc wearing down to the screws, making them dangerous to people or surfaces?
@YeahPete4 жыл бұрын
It will eventually wear out to the screws. When you notice the head of screw wearing away I would change out the pipe and screws because how will you unscrew it if the head of the screw is worn away? It probably would become dangerous if the pvc wears too thin.

I'm thinking of getting a couple of these for me and my son,but if I can't find Pvc, are the replacement wheels still available for purchase from Razor or anywhere else for that matter?
@YeahPete3 жыл бұрын
I heard they dont make the wheels anymore. So this is definitely needed. Or retrofit some other type of wheels.

If you don't mind me asking why were using the sewing thread around the PVC? If it's what I'm thinking, wouldn't popping a chalk line work just the same?

@@Jarhead1313 I measured around the perimeter with a single string length. Then I folded it into a 1/3 length to get 3 screws somewhat equidistant.

Will this. Work if the tires cracked
@YeahPete5 жыл бұрын
I'd try to superglue the cracks first and maybe use 5 screws per wheel instead of 3. If its cracking because the plastic is too thin from wear, I would use JB weld or culk as the screws might not have enough material to grab onto. Thanks for the comment hope this helps.

They last way longer. Im guessing about 3x longer. Im still on the original pvc sleeves and yeah I bought a 10' section. LOL. Thanks for the comment. You can easily sell the 10' section of pipe on craigslist.

Hi there any alternative option to use to replace the wheels?they have discontinued over here in the UK .do you think go kart wheels could work?thank you
@YeahPete4 жыл бұрын
Go kart wheels have a different hub. wheel barrow wheels, large casters would be better. The problem is the current wheels arent held on by a proper wheel hub for hard cornering with rubber wheels. You can grind a flat spot into the axle and use a set screw to help with that. You can make your own wheels by 3D printing, using plywood, then sleeving with pvc pipe. The cheapest option is to repair your wheels and sleeve them with pvc if you still have wheels.
@alex-dk2rj5 жыл бұрын
Do you know if they make any rubber wheels that fit this trike?
@YeahPete5 жыл бұрын
I haven't. Wheelbarrow wheels might be a good place to start. I don't think a wheelbarrow wheel would stay on with the tighter cornering the rubber would provide. Look into homemade kart setups..

Hello, my pvc won’t fit on right I think it’s bent. Do you know how to expand the pipe or tricks to get the pvc pipe to fit on the wheels.
@YeahPete4 жыл бұрын
you can try to wear down the wheels a bit more. If the PVC is out of round maybe try making a solar oven with foil and a cardboard box and maybe the pvc will be easier to bend.

I had the same problem. I eventually found it at a farm drainage store for $10.50 per foot and luckily they had a 10' section for sale. Many places you have to buy it in a 20' section. Best price online I could find was about $85 for a 5' section plus $40 shipping. I have a bunch of extra 5" pieces I might sell on Ebay depending on if it's worth my time.
