Note: Duplicate the original skeleton so you can keep importing animations for that skeleton.. then use the "Replace Skeleton" feature on the animation sequence to the rooted skeleton.

Got any ideas how to fix, Control Rig - Hierarchy discrepancy for bone 'Head' - different parents on Control Rig vs SkeletalMesh?

The best! Can you also make tutorial about baking animation to our modular control rig and bake animation to the control rig, sometimes it has weird pose when baked to control rig. We need to rotate the bones first in skeletal mesh editor

Hi, first of all thanks for the effort you put into the video. It's a nice approach to change the skeleton with the editor and implement new weight paint. But unfortunately this step is completely superfluous for the procedure you have selected afterwards - namely to create automatically generated IK Rigs + IK Retargeter. So minute 1:44 to minute 8:30 are completely superfluous for the process shown here, as the auto-retargeter has not selected the root bone as the retarget root. Unfortunately, root motion animations will still not work as a result (except with live IK retargeting from UE Manny). Nevertheless, thank you for the tutorial, because it has given me an insight into the Skeletal Mesh Editor tool that I didn't have before. But as I said, the step with the root bone is completely superfluous here - the auto-retargeter would retarget it in exactly the same way if this step is omitted.

Hey danG!! brilliant channel my friend!! you are extremely clever and helpful. I was just wondering if you could do a motion matching with mixamo character and mixamo animations tutorial? im trying to work this out myself, so far i have a custom character which i added a root bone with using ur tutorial and retargeted lyra animations but i cant get custom animations to work??

Thanks for the support. One way to get around using further animations from the "unrooted" character is to clone the skeleton first then add a root bone to the cloned skeleton, that way you can still import unrooted animations and you then reparent the animations skeleton from the unrooted to the rooted one.

I don't know if you've seen it, but Live For Speed has its own LFS Editor... I'm looking for a live that would help me build my car... no one has built that exact car. if you could make a video it would help me a lot

I am having trouble using Motion Matching with Mixamo animations. They dont seem to have root bones. In order to use motion matching with mixamo animations, i have to do this for EVERY animation? :/

you don't need to do this for every animation. Adding root bone for the skeleton. Check my pinned comment too.

what happend if we import anothe animation from mixamo. will it have bone mismatch and not able to use animation?

It would fail. One workaround is before modifying the skeleton to add a root bone is to duplicate it then you change the mixamo animations skeleton to the rooted one.

something to do with the 3d model I'm using... theres a specific spot that crashes when I touch it. I vaguely remember it looking weird in blender but I don't know enough to blender to deal with it.
