Here's a simple sequence to incorporate rumba into your solo dancing to Cuban popular music. We're borrowing movements from guaguanco and columbia.
Guaguanco example:
• Rumba en Miami
2 fantastic dancers to check out:
• Carlos Ramirez:
/ insuperiortorment
• Marisol Blanco:
/ marisolblanco99

Watching from Finland 🇫🇮😁 nice corner of the globe you have there. These have got to be the best dance videos I have found yet. The dances you teach are authentic and true to their roots - this is hard to find. You break down the steps really well and take the time to explain all the important basics such as musicality that have usually (sadly) been overlooked in the dance classes I have taken. The humour in your videos also appeals to me on a spiritual level and your photography and video editing are top notch 🔥🔥🔥

I have been learning cuban salsa for several years primarily through the Rueda method and learning ever more complicated turn patterns. Although a bit difficult combining fast moving rueda when your learning a new pattern its great once you have a rough idea because you then get to continually practice it with constantly different partners combined with all the other patterns you previously learned. but despite reaching the master class two times I quickly realised that this is just a mere fraction of what Cuban Salsa is really about. My main dance instructor always tried to introduce rumba, afro rumba and son steps into the Rueda but I always wanted to have a separate non Rueda course that purely focuses on this side of Cuban salsa starting right at the beginning with the basic rumba movement, weight transfer, angle and stance. A one of workshops at a social or salsa festival has never worked for me. The limited dance ability I do have was learned by going to lessons twice a week, week in week out one month after another the whole year around, combined with going to salsa socials virtually every weekend where I could get to practice what I learned straight away on the dance floor. It's like you said, you sometimes need to practice a movement 6000 times before it sinks in and starts to look natural. Anyway I really love the way you explain and teach, breaking down every movement for us. Your channel and these videos are the best I have ever seen on KZbin.

Your video is pretty cool, but I gotta say that one important thing you missed is the WHEN and the WHY. If you don't include a discussion of when it is appropriate to incorporate rumba into salsa or casino, then the problem is that it just becomes an appropriation - a caricature of dance. And why not suggest at some point that folks learn rumba for it's own sake and in it's original context - not just some isolated steps for the purpose of incorporating it into salsa?
@MessinaDance

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I tend to go on endlessly down any path related to whatever topic I'm babbling about already, so I tried to limit the scope of this one just to the movements and cadence for guaguanco, because really most casineros are at least peripherally acquainted with rumba etc. For that reason, I usually have them in mind and not so much "salsa" audience (I put "Cuban salsa" in quotes in the video titles for search reasons), but if a salsero (as in line) stumbled across this, hopefully at least they would pick up the correct posture and avoid some of the bad habits that you see in their "shines" like opening the shoulder like crazy and doing the dirt shoveling thing. All that said, I might get preachy in another video :) Thanks for watching.

@@MessinaDance Could be a great topic for a future video! Or I believe the author of the blog "Son y Casino" also has written some posts on when to use rumba in terms of musical cues in timba - could be good to point towards in your links in the description on this video. Anyway, I don't mean to be critical just pointing to where it could be better in terms of educating the public. Overall really good stuff! My husband I watched several of your videos the other day and we really liked them!
