This is the first hatching exercise that I have actually enjoyed. My erratic hatching managed to actually look good and by the end of it I had developed a lot more control than I thought possible (for myself). It definitely helped me a lot more than just practicing making random hatch lines and cross hatches across a blank canvas. Thanks so much!!

Again, another fantastic video! Masterfully done! Just started watching your videos because I have been learning how to use cross-hatching on 3D resin printed models to achieve a comic book style aesthetic on board game pieces. I love your approach to teaching and all your tips and tricks. Not to sound weird but I find your voice so chill and relaxing. There is a high degree of professionalism in your voice and in your approach that I very much appreciate. Thanks again for another amazing video!

Great little tutorial.. thank you.. Quick question, when doing crosshatching liek this are you just thinking about light and shadow or does texture also factor in than doing this?
@RobertMarzullo5 жыл бұрын
In this example it would primarily be about light and shadow but cross-hatching can also be used for texturing. I also like to add in bits of stipple shading or random marks to create texture.

Man, that line-art skill is amazing! How do you manage to obtain those insane perfectly straight, parallel and same-length lines? Do you always keep the stabiliser on? Is there any particular exercise that you could recommend to get that skilled at drawing lines? (maybe you have it on a previous video? I'm checking your inking videos but the ones I've seen don't seem to mention exercises). Thank you in advance, and thanks for your videos!

Thank you Diego. I have practiced them a lot over the years. I think that the main thing is getting the work the exact size that corresponds with your most confident hand movement. For me, it is where I can rest my hand on the screen and create smaller movements controlled by only my fingertips and not by moving my hand. By pivoting off my hand I can get much more accurate lines. Some artists get good at pulling lines across the canvas by moving their entire arm but I find that to be more difficult. I also would fill up entire pages with just lines to get better at rendering. That can be a great way to practice. Thanks for watching this video! -Robert

@@RobertMarzullo thank you very much for the advice! I will definitely try that. I was in fact struggling with my straight lines probably because I was always putting a litte bit of wrist on them and they always curved a bit. Also I have noticed today that Clip Studio Paint Pro produces a much more elegant line-art out of the box for the default GPen than what Krita does (I have been using Krita until now) which is unfortunate since it's such a nice software. Keep up this amazing work!

Do you ever shade normal like smoothing out colors fading them to nothing plus the cross hatching ? I've never tried to do the cross hatching but I've seen it a lot. You are awesome as always. I've got a pic I've drawn and shaded. Do you think after practicing it would look okay with the cross hatching also is my question. Thanks man !
