How do you make something atonal ?

If we're defining atonal as a sound without tone in this context, it can be quite challenging to make something is tonal non tonal. A device called "Soothe" can suck out tone when it's setting is on hard mode. Otherwise removing big tonal peaks in sounds, or making sounds more "noisey". White noise is essentially so many frequencies at once no tone is obvious, so you could do this to other sounds by distorting them until obvious tone is gone etc...
