To do this in a Pivot Tables, a work-around is to: 1. Make a calculated Field which is sums up the individual columns - This is your "Total" Column. Add that to the Pivot Table 2. Follow from 2:15, but instead of changing it to a Scatter, change it to a line chart 3. Add Data Labels as usual 4. Make Lines (and markers) transparent or white Hope this helps!

Can you give more information ? I can not add a calculated field in my powerpivot, the option ie greyed. I can not modify the source as it comes from a database. Is there a way to use the automatic grand total from the power pivot ?

Very good explanation. How do you change the height of the stacks (diff colors) containing the data series values? Sometimes for very small values excel makes the height of the cell too small to fit the data label font.

Yes, you can also add percentages - you have to add in a new series for that - or combine it with the total series. I'll make a video on that - It'll be the one after next.

Hi Leila, is there a way to create a sort of stack-chart where you can see how much of one amount belongs to the total amount? For example. If I have a revenue of 10,000 and COGS of 6,000 I will have an operating profit of 4,000. Could I graph the 4,000 over of the 10,000 so I can see how much of the total revenue is operating profit? I notice when you use stack bars the amounts are added, but what I want to see is part of the total. I guess I could do it with columns but it looks nicer as it it would be stacked thank you!

You need to click on the series (bar, column, etc.) itself. Not just anywhere in the chart area. If you click on the data series you will get it as an option.

You are quite restricted with Pivot Charts. Best is to create a pivot table and use the GetPivotData function to reference the values of the pivot in a dynamic way and then create a normal chart like I show in this video - this way your data is driven by the pivot, but you are using a normal chart.

For such cases, when my data is in pivottables, I use the getpivotdata function to extract them in a dynamic way from the pivot table and base my chart on this "data preparation" table - this way you can use the "usual" chart techniques and are not limited by the PivotChart functionalities.

@@LeilaGharani When you make a chart based on a pivot table, it's 'automatically' a pivot chart. You're saying copy the data to a non-pivot table and build the chart? That's a bit clunky? If you use GetPivotData... You need a second table, pointed at the Pivot table? That seems a bit odd, to make a second table exactly like the pivot table with the pivot table data in it...

I found the idea great but I'm facing an issue here. I have in my chart 3 series as stacked column (Primary axis, $ value), 1 series as clustered (secondary axis, %) and one series a line with markers (Primary axes, $ value). The chart becomes too complex to show the data table. What you can do here is put the data table in Excel cells right below the chart and position the chart above the table.
