Holy shit been struggling with this for ages within 30 seconds of you saying let the pressure of the string push your finger back down i had it nailed! Thank you so much

I started watching a handful of your videos when I first started six years ago and I’ve seemed to cycle back. This is one of few techniques I ignored as a self taught guitarist but now want to implore Thanks a bunch

You're a great teacher man. I was able to do it almost immediately when you explained how you're supposed to let the string go down, then you push up a bit. Great lesson, THANK YOU!

JustinGuitar, I seriously can't thank you enough. I almost gave up playing because I was so frustrated with my bend vibratos. This was the ONLY way I was able to learn them right. It drove me absolutely crazy constantly hearing people in class nailing these bend vibratos while I was unable to do the same. THANK YOU.

This is a really great lesson, Justin. Vibrato on bends seems like one of those things you just do, but if you actually think about it, you improve your sound tremendously.

Great lesson as always! Love the idea about no rules but just guidelines helping you along the way to figure out what works for you. That probably applies to everything in life actually to some extend.

Wow right off the bat: learn to do both seperately confidently. I can bend just fine, but vibrato has always been a bit tricky for me. Back to practicing that first then and I will bookmark this for when I nail that haha! Awesome tip!

I had a hard time mastering this technique, but I realized part of it is in the setup of your guitar. Big frets and high action help with the technique, and I like the string gauge to have a certain amount of tension to fight my fingers a little which helps in the technique. I like 10s on a Strat.

Yes. American Standard. My first guitar purchase. Couldn't play a note. Didn't even play it when I bought it. Saw it on the wall and said, "I'll take that one." Luckily, it is still my favorite guitar.

Hey thanks Justin. How do I build up speed? I have the slow vibrato but I tend to cramp up if I try to speed up.
@outoworkdreamer8 жыл бұрын
Speed is obviously a separate challenge. Start by practicing a scale or your favorite lick. Play it very slowly but here's the kicker.... Play it perfectly. Then when you get perfect at the slow speed (preferably to about 80bpm with your metronome) Play it several times ... Over and over....perfectly. Then increase by 10 or 20 bpm. Playing the same scale or lick perfectly. If you mess up go back to the slower speed. Slowly work your way up 10-20bpm at a time. This will increase you muscle memory and confidence immeasurably. Do this every day and you'll soon be ripping thru it and surprising yourself with your growth as a musician.

I always have trouble with my fingertips sliding under the lower strings, and oddly the lower strings can sometimes snag in the crease of my fingernails.. Learning how to mute the rest of the strings while also learning how to do bends/vibratos js going be tough.

Man- I've been playing 30 something years, but I'm self-taught, and I mean really self-taught- there was no internet, no tv shows or anything like that, no one around who played- accept my dad who only played banjo and acoustic guitar, bluegrass only. And he played rhythm, started out on upright bass- ended up playing mostly mandolin and banjo. He played at a professional level- Bill box and the Dixie drifters- he's the guy playing upright bass. But he refused to show me anything but the major chords- that was it, the rest he said I had to learn on my own. He hated electric guitar, hated the music I played, and really hated kids in general- that's why he wouldn't show me anything. Anyway- I had progressed to playing blues lead- pentatonic stuff, that's about it. But even that wasn't sounding right, and I could not for the life of me figure out why. I kept watching everyone else and being like "I'm doing the same thing..." - why was it sounding wrong? You just fixed it for me brother- I was relaxing my bends without muting them. I had narrowed it down to something about the bends but- I couldn't figure out what it was- I thought it was because I was failing to put enough vibrato in them but- no, it's because I'm relaxing them before I move to the next note without muting them- lol- sounds like a wounded animal almost. It sticks out like a sore thumb now that I finally put my finger on it to- I have no idea how I was missing it. Thank you- so much, you just got a new student brother.

Dang i tried making little vibratos while bending the strings and it just make the sound dissapear
@marcelriemer36967 жыл бұрын
Then you're probably lifting the string off the fret at some point, try it a few times and see if you can keep the string in contact with the fret while bending.

very hard to make vibrato and bend on my acoustic guitar to i have to use special stings to do this on acoustic guitar?
@ArielsSmartyPants8 жыл бұрын
usually acoustics have very heavy strings, 12g and higher, sometimes much higher. Almost impossible to bend easily with those. Thinner strings will help a lot, but you'll suffer with thinner tone as well.
@ScottiStudios6 жыл бұрын
Ernie Ball Rock and Blues strings. They have 1 less wound string and a plain string instead. Go for the Phosphor Bronze alloy, not the 80/20. The phosphor strings sound warmer. Match this with low action on your accoustic and it will fell like your are playing an electric 😊
