Aug. 29/2021 Update: I was informed recently that video will work in Interactive PDF so long as you have the most updated version of Adobe Acrobat. I tested this, and yes it does work. However, I didn't have any video control options so I wasn't able to pause, stop or resume the video in the PDF. I still encourage to use a different export option (Publish Online, EPub) but if you need PDF, just note that it will work with the latest version of Acrobat with limited control options. Best of luck!

Hi Angelo, new subscriber! I love your tutorials, I am just getting in the world of interactive publications and I see that you have tons of cool stuff. I really loved your tutorial on HTML5 and Flipsnack, cause last year I had a project where I had to design the whole thing in FS which was sort of a nightmare since they do not have the full capabilities of InDesign. I see with joy that that interactivity from InDesign can go directly into Flipsnack when you upload the PDF, however, do you happen to know if these videos would work on Flipsnack too? What about embedded content? Not just bookmarks and hyperlinks... I am assuming yes, but I was wondering if you already tried that. Greetings from Mexico!

I would like to have several videos on one scrollable PDF for a multimedia art project, and have them each autoplay as the user scrolls through the document, but don't want them to all play at once by setting them to "play on page load." Any tips or workarounds you could offer would be much appreciated! Thank you!
@AngeloMontilla3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah! You can place multiple videos in a document and not have them play of page load. In the Media panel (Window > Interactive > Media) there's an option to turn on/off a video playing on page load. However, doing so means a user will have to play/stop/pause it through the playback controls. I know what you're asking, but it's not possible. It's either you play it on page load or you play it manually. There's really no in between. Also, be careful in placing video in an interactive PDF. While it may work in the latest version of Acrobat, you'll run into a lot of problems with the video playing properly with Adobe phasing out Flash support. I tested it in the latest version of Acrobat and yes, it will work but I had no playback control. Use Publish Online or EPub to be on the safe side. All the best!

Hey there. This won't work for PDF anymore. And if it does, you'll have issues with the playback controls. Try publish online or epub. You'll have more success there.

Hey Luka! I am afraid there is not an option to disable player controls in Adobe InDesign. I am sure there's likely a workaround with javascript or other programming, but not directly in the Id media tools. Hope that helps.

hello Angelo, can you help me with an error that presents me: I insert the video and it says "It is possible that the interactive PDF does not support playback controls for audio and video files". When I click on export and open the PDF, only the audio is played without the video... Help me fix it!! 😭
@AngeloMontilla2 жыл бұрын
Hi Christian! Unfortunately, rich media like videos and audio aren't supported for interactive PDF any more. That is because Adobe has phased out support for Flash. Sometimes the video will play but you have no playback controls whatsoever. My suggestion is to publish that project online or export it for EPub. It just won't work for PDF anymore.

@AngeloMontilla4 жыл бұрын
@@shamghziel1769 The only way I can think of doing this, is importing the audio file by going to File > Place into the layout. Click on the frame and then open the Media panel (Window > Interactive > Media). There will be an open there to play on page load. You'll have to create animations to the text frame to appear when the audio begins. Have the text frame appear on page load as well. If there are multiple text frames, you'll have to adjust the timing of the animations by going to Window > Interactive > Timing. It can be done, but it's going to take much trial and error to get the timing just right.

Hello Angelo. Thank you very much for your video! I have an important Question I will provide an interactive PDF on my website after the purchase. The interactive PDF shall contain 80 training videos (30 seconds each) and shall be played directly (Not via KZbin or other websites). The interactive PDF should work offline and mobile. Is there a limit on gigabytes? You meant that Flash has been removed. Does it still work? If not, what alternatives do I have? Thanks a lot and best regards, Max

Hi, do I have to sign up an account with Adobe site to host my publication online? How does it work?

Hi there. As long as you have an Adobe subscription, the Publish Online feature is of no charge. Adobe hosts your work online and you can share the link or copy/paste the embed code onto a website. Hope that helps!

Can a video with "play on page load" checked be exportated in interactive pdf mode ??
@arkadeepdebnath4 жыл бұрын
Hi Angelo, I designed a 2 page Interactive PDF watching your vedio. I added 1 vedio(having audios in it) on each page. I set the option to play " On page load". The problem I am facing is both the vedios( with audios) are running simultaneously and it's becoming a mess. Can you please suggest an answer to the problem? Thanks 💖
@AngeloMontilla4 жыл бұрын
Hi Arkadeep. Either deselect both from playing on page load, or just one. I prefer having the experience of letting people play it on their own. If you set both videos to play on page load, they will both play, so either choose one or none. Best of luck.

Hi Angelo, is there a reason why my video won't import in Indesign? It's an MP4 file and no matter what the size, it won't show up on my page. I only see grey stripes and when I export my file to PDF, there's a blank page. Thanks for your help!
@AngeloMontilla4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah. It sounds like your video needs to be encoded. Even though it's an MP4, often times it still needs to go through an encoding process and set to H.264 in order to work in InDesign. Do you have Adobe Media Encoder? Let me know if you do and I can walk you through the process.

Hi Angie! It's hosted on an Adobe server, but there's an embed code that allows you to place the work on your personal site or share with clients, teachers, etc..

Hey! I'm trying to export to pdf, but when I do so the video is unable to play. It just looks like a picture. I exported to interactive pdf. Do you have any idea how to fix this? Thank you!
@AngeloMontilla4 жыл бұрын
Hey Maeve, first, make sure when you export to PDF, choose PDF (Interactive) and not PDF (Print). The multi-media won't work that way. Also, try updating latest version of Flash. I recommend using another format than Interactive PDF for video. Adobe is phasing out flash in Dec., so you may run into some issues if you need this document long-term. Best of luck!

Hi Simon. If you're having issue playing video in your PDF, you may have to use Adobe Encoder to ensure your video is encoded to H.264 specifications.

@@aazaad2479 I understand. You will have to convert videos you take on phone to MP4 before placing in an Id layout. This can be done using Adobe Media Encoder or even a simple online video converter. You may lose some quality in the latter option, but at least it will be functional. Best of luck!

Work off a web or mobile document and set the size in pixels to the platform it's mean for. For example, 1920 x 1080. Also, use MP4 (H.264) videos in the document.

Hi Dimitra, are you exporting for Interactive PDF? If so, the videos will not work as Adobe as phased out Flash support.

@@AngeloMontilla thanks so so much for replying. my first try was to add a gif to my slide. i placed it, then worked in animation and EPUB form and everything was okay. Then i clicked slide show with shift and w and my gif wasn’t playing. so i started again by converting my gif to mp4 file. I placed it again then i went to interactive and then to media , on EPUB it wasn’t working so i think this is a problem too. If i could make my gif play in my representation mode ( shift+w) my problem will be solved 🥰
@AngeloMontilla4 жыл бұрын
@@dimpt753 I understand. Unfortunately, Shift +W is just another page view, not a way of viewing animation. Just think of it as putting your layouts in full-screen mode. You have to export to ePub or publish online for those GIFs to work properly. Hope that helps.
