How to Add WiFi/Bluetooth to a Custom Built PC

In this video I show how to add WiFi and/or Bluetooth to your custom built PC using a network card. This is just a quick look and explanation at something that I struggled with while building my own PC. Hopefully this video will help somebody that is in my same position.

Thanks for this, Nic. I'm another one who builds their own PCs. I'm glad to see that you have a few big fans in your case. Lots of quiet cooling. I'm a big fan (unintentional pun) of "quiet" and I'm a big fan of "cool". Another reason for having WiFi in a PC is to provide another connection to the internet if your main connection drops out. I have a 4G WiFi hotspot that my wife and I use with our laptops when we're traveling, but I never got around to putting WiFi into my PC. The data cost here is very high. But we had a few too many drop-outs today and I've decided that we need to be connected more that we need to worry about a few extra $$. Your video has been very helpful.

you, sir, are legendary. I have a custom built pc that I have been using for some years now, it was built by my brother around 2013 (yeah, its starting to get outdated). He gave it to me, and I never needed to use bluetooth for anything on my pc until I got a pair of sony WH-1000XM4's (great bluetooth headphone btw). When I realized that I didnt have bluetooth (couldnt turn it on or off), I immediately went to youtube and watched dozens of videos on how to fix any software problems relating to the matter. I even downloaded the intel bluetooth driver set up maybe 10 times. None of the videos I watched said anything about this being a hardware problem (probably because it was meant for people with laptops or prebuilt pcs). I didnt even realize that I was missing the very component that would let me use bluetooth in my pc. Not only did your video tell me this, you also linked the one you used (which i ordered directly after watching this video), gave us a detailed and precise explanation on where and how to set up the network card, and did so without wasting any time whatsoever.

im a little surprised that so many people and people much smarter than i am have had the same issue as me. it took me a good 5 hours to figure out the computer i had built for me just didnt have the hardware for wifi and bluetooth. i thought i just had a setting off somewhere or something, so i installed a bluetooth driver off the manufacturer website about 4 times and ran all kinds of troubleshooters on my system before i almost took a bat to the whole thing....I should get rid of the bat because its my go to for my final solution every time but theres nothing left to do after that option left to do but buy it again. thanks for the tip in the beginning about the power and electrocuting the computer components that actually helped when i heard it put that way instead of just hearing i should do it. i look forward to future videos. Typically you either buy a motherboard with wifi and pay the extra or you buy a cheaper motherboard and pay for wifi later. In general, I don't think you did anything wrong. There is an advantage in buying a separate wifi card, especially if you upgrade the motherboard often. The same wifi card can be used when upgrading, thus reducing the overall cost of having to buy the wifi each time you upgrade the mobo. Overall, some people like to have everything on the motherboard so that they don't have to deal with additional work and compatibility, while others like the freedom of picking their favored product for each feature and not have to be locked in by the motherboard product. I think you did fine with everything but that is jmo.

True. Also some people just don’t know that their motherboard doesn’t always come with WiFi. That’s what happened to me. I just bought the cheapest and highest rated motherboard and didn’t realize that it didn’t come with WiFi and Bluetooth. I made this video to help people that were in my same predicament. From now on though, I’m prob going to buy motherboards with it already built in. Cheers 👍

You can connect via Ethernet cable directly to your router. Otherwise it will be up to the Motherboard you have if wireless WiFi is included. If not, you will have to add a WiFi card like i did.

Make sure that you have downloaded any drivers for the WiFi card. If it didn’t come included in the package, search the brand of WiFi card online and look for the drivers to download. Also check if the card was correctly installed.

Try to see if the brand name of the usb device is written on it. You might have to connect your pc directly to your router via an ethernet cable to install the drivers. Maybe search up on google how to activate a usb WiFi adapter.

Just Intel or Amd bluetooth and wifi drivers. On Windows they install them automatically The manual also has a website for drivers.

@@cainsaint When you install your graphics card there are the ports for it, when you install the wifi card the places to screw in the antenna are where the hdmi ports would be for the gpu.

People tend to want to cover too much and it gets confusing. only one thing-- describe or give a clearer view of the point of connection to the mother board. I am a novice computer builder and need to be shown where on the mother board the pins to connect to. i couldn't see clearly where you connected to the mother board.
