Appreciate the video, bought my 14 last Wednesday and it being from factory, it needs adjusting.

Manual says, "Find the tightest point in the chain," and adjust from there. Also, measurement should be taken with the bike on its side stand and vertical measurement taken "While on the side stand".

You always adjust a chain at its tightest point. Also you did not make it clear which was the jam nut and which was the adjuster. Lastly you must turn the adjuster an equal number of turns on EACH side.

juanjohnism Ive never really understood the "tight spot" thing I can never seem to tell where its at any tips?
@PistonSlap9 жыл бұрын
moardub Now that I have some miles on my bike I can find it easier. So what you will be looking for is when your spinning the rear wheel around watch the lower chain. As your spinning the tire you notice that the chain will move up towards the swing arm. "What is actually happening is that the tighter part of the chain wont let it sag as much" so as juanjohnism is saying is correct. Any other questions just ask.

Service manual for the 2013 zx6r stipulates to measure chain slack with the bike on the side stand. It should be 30-40mm (1.2-1.6") If you have it on a paddock stand, you are changing the load on the swingarm which will affect the slack - and your measurement will be off.

thanks for the help. should be the same for my 2018 zx6r, just put the first 5k miles on it and now having to do 2nd oil change plus maintenance all around.

Chain is suppost to be adjusted on its side stand not on a stand as shown in this video. Can give a faulty measurement do to how the weight should be distributed with the bike under its own weight. Chain does appear a bit tight from what's shown here.
@PistonSlap3 жыл бұрын
Never had a problem. Not saying this is the wrong way to do it other than the adjustment are easier to show then the bike is upright. Vs leaned over. That is for watching and commenting.
@berube3613 жыл бұрын
@@PistonSlap Most do it as you did in the video and the difference is minimal but there is a difference. Chain tension will be a hair tighter on a rear stand so if you adjust it to lets say the looser side once the bike is on the ground the slack may now be just over the allowed limit. Most average riders would never know the difference. I actually just did my chain adjustment on my 2012 zx6r and started to do it on the rear stand and remembered the manual said to do on its side stand and the adjustment I had already made was off and had to adjust slightly again once back on the side stand. And of course the marks on the swingarm to align the axle are never perfect so have to use an alignment tool or a good eye to see how the chain is tracking on the sprocket and adjust if its pulling to one side or the other. Small details that are easily overlooked leading to premature chain wear. But good tutorial overall though.
@PistonSlap3 жыл бұрын
@@berube361 I agree the small details are what make the difference in the ride! The suspension works in conjunction with proper chain tension and alignment

Thanks man. I had bought a set and found out they hit the stock muffler. So I tossed them on the shelf and use these little bolts. Last winter I installed the Graves Motorsports slip on and found out I could now use the spools I bough two years ago.

Question? my girl has a 2013 636 and for some reason I been felling the bike ride funny! like it would pull to the right, sometimes to the left! And first I thought it was just the wind but it did it every day a little to much! So I checked her rear adjustment blocks and noticed that the lines don't match up, Like the clutch lever and gear shift side! the block is just off to the left of the line, Is this normal? Then her brake side is just off to the wright but there just off by alittle,, Do u think this could be the cause of the balance acting up? idk and would love some advice from u? I don't even know how to line them back up! I was just bout to mess with the little nut on the the sides of the adjustment block! Then I said to my self WOA ask someone that knows first lol/
@PistonSlap9 жыл бұрын
Great question. .so for the adjustment blocks on the rear you do want them to line up. to try and even things out adjust them so that the both are lined up with a notch. once you have that then proceed to adjust the chain by turning the adjusting bolts equal amounts. that way the rear tire will stay strait. After you have that done check to see if it fixed the problem. only change one thing at a time that way it will keep you from chasing your tail. Also Dave moss has a bunch of good stuff on his page. Let me know if you need anything more.

Piston Slap thanks for replying man! Anyway for the cotter pin, do you know where i can get the same size? And for the breaker bar, is it really necessary from your opinion?
@PistonSlap5 жыл бұрын
@@dvss7459 you don't have to use a breaker bar, you can use a ratcheting wrench. As for the cotter pin I took mine to a local hardware store and mached it up. Buy a few of them that way you don't have to go back every time you make a adjustment.

What size cotter pin did you use? Is there any specific size that's recommended. I was just going to buy some and see if it fits. Also, where can you buy them? Lowes/Home Depot/hardware stores?

1/8 wire x2L hammer lock cotter pin is what's on the package I have. should be able to get them.at a auto parts store. The way i did it was took it off and matched it up with one. The expensive way to go would be to buy them from the Kawasaki dealer, but then it would be the correct part. Hope this helps.

That chain is wayyy too tight, that isn't free play. Free play is when you can flop it back and fourth, this chain is under tension.

@PistonSlap2 жыл бұрын
